How would the competitor get advantage due to economies of scale when we are only discussing variable cost? Variable costs will increase as you increase the quantity produced. The fixed cost will be distributed over the number of quantities produced and that's where you will get the advantage.

Mohammad, you're absolutely right in the case of the total number of items by both us and the competitors being the same. But here that is not the case. The market share of the competitors is also more than us and hence we cannot exactly say anything without a proper survey. This was tackled when the interviewer provided us with the exact situation.
