As a testiment to the accuracy of one of the moves here... I've been watching a LOT of videos from a KZbinr named Little Z, who among other things, is a wario main. And despite watching Little Z play wario in over a dozen videos, and seeing some awesome setups with his down tilt, down air, and most notably down b, I had no idea what Wario's down smash looked like.

(I know this is probably a joke, but not everyone is going to realize that and I don’t want them to get a bad takeaway from this) True combo into a flashy, lethal move...in exchange for their recovery. Several characters have scarier, more reliable set-ups, but if their recovery is incredibly bad/exploitable-much less nonexistant-people _will_ give them shit for it. Sing might not even make up for all the advantages of a real recovery if our hypothetical character had a homerun bat by default.

@@olivinator As someone who plays Ridley and Sonic, Ridley's definitely feels a lot worse. Sonic's isn't as fast, but it also ends much sooner so it can be used as a meteor without killing yourself thanks to his big up-B and as a means of getting to the ground when high up because it's aerial endlag is actually surprisingly short. Ridley's on the other hand has to compete with his up-B, which spikes consistently throughout, has a generous landing hitbox, and lets him grab an edge rather than suiciding with it when attempting a spike. So yeah, Ridley's sucks because of his up-B, and Sonic's is good because of his up-B

I know we have a thing for Esam opinions, but he did a more basic version of this video a while back, where he made the case that Falcon Punch is actually worse. Yes, Warlock Punch is slower, but they're both too slow to use in any area besides shield break punishing and extremely hard reads anyway, and at least there are few options to deal with Warlock Punch thanks to the super-armor it gets. Also, it is leagues better than Falcon Punch at Shield Break punishing because you would probably be surprised to learn that Falcon Punch is actually comparitively weak in this game; I think Falcon's Forward Smash is better at killing than it, so even if you do land it, you don't get much pay-off.

The problem is unless your up against someone who isn't mashing there controller, it's not going to work. I can see why people think sing plus skewer is equivalent to a Brawl infinite, but sing has alot of end lag, it takes about a second for someone to wake up, and (correct me if I'm wrong) Warlock Punch has a 72 frame wind up, attempting to do this would not work very well. And with skewer, let's just say you have to have percision on where you are.

CJ The Randomizer Ganon’s neutral b would be used in the same way he uses it, but a better follow up for rest could be snake’s f-smash, with less startup and still very high kill power. Little Mac, but with his recovery _literally_ going nowhere, and he's helpless on the ground as well. the only thing that could make it worse is if he had the build of either Bowser, King Dedede, or King K. Rool, the ground speed of Incineroar, the jump height of Jigglypuff (with only the standard allotment of a single midair jump), and the air speed of King Dedede (also with only one midair jump). I'm not completely sure which weight would make him the worst, but given the reputation of characters that fall on either extreme and comparing them to each other, I'd say the weight of Bowser, but an argument can be made for the weight of Pichu as well.

Yeah, unfortunately his aerials are very underwhelming in terms of power, speed, and hitbox (landing Uair is a nightmare to land, and strangely enough, it combos into almost all of his kit depending on what percent the opponent is in, lol!). I will say, un-ironically, that his Nair is his best aerial exclusively because it is his fastest aerial (It's also *the* fastest aerial in the game too at frame 2) and can interrupt attacks when you ledge jump > Nair at ledge. It's still a horrible aerial considering Yoshi's Nair with only an extra frame of start-up has better combo breaker potential, but I think Little Mac's Nair is perhaps the only "viable" aerial to use for his character. The rest of Little Mac's aerials do not really have any true or useful follow-ups when used first, or are the worse of follow-ups themselves compared to his other moves such as Up-b (better follow-up after Utilt juggles, but I guess more riskier if you whiff it). Other than that, the only potential aerial I'd think people would use besides his tilts is Fair for tech situations.

A lot of these only showed up because the character doesn't need that slot for its usual utility. Snake doesn't really need the usual forward air since his grenades already dominate his neutral and he can just use nikita for regular edgeguarding, so why not have a flashy spike forward air to hard punish people for avoiding nikita unsafely. Jigglypuff already has God tier recovery from jump, so why not have an up special that essentially sets up any missed-tech punish you desire instead of recovering. Dedede admittedly would probably want a fast dash attack since he's already slow, but at least he can take advantage of his current one for ledgetraps and edgeguards given the rest of his kit. And then there's Yoshi, who would rather have Banjo's side B when he has no feathers than his current one. What a terrible attack.

Ledge traps with your grenades. Drop a grenade right at the ledge, then fsmash hold to counter the dodge. If they ledge get up, they get hit by grenade, if they roll, fsmash, if they jump, let fsmash go and shield. It's not used like other fsmashes

Comparing Byleth's moveset to this one, let's see how she stacks up Jab: Can actually connect into itself and has stupid good range for a rapid jab Side tilt: Great range, can kill, not really a combo tool and more akin to the Belmont's side tilt Down tilt: Slow as FUCK but can at least combo into something and has a disjoint to poke Up tilt: No argument, great range, can combo into itself/Up-B, and not a slow-ass, easily dodged move Dash attack: Has some end lag, but is fast on start up and can kill Side smash: A bit slow and shifts Byleth closer to the opponent you can't deny the range as well as kill power this move possesses Down smash: Slow, laggy, predictable, but still beats out Wario's by being absolutely fucking disgusting and shattering any shield that's been hit even once and actually has 2-frame potential. Up smash: Can catch grounded opponents, lasts long, great range and is an overall great anti air Nair: More range than Olimar's pathetic spin and is a better combo starter, the landing hit box also helps with landing Fair: Byleth can space pretty well with this despite the lack of vertical hitbox. It can also kill and can follow a down tilt or down throw Bair: Same as fair really, but kills even earlier. Dair: A spike as slow as Mii Gunner with a horrid case of Sm4sh landing lag syndrome, but it's still a shield shatterer and the sourspot kills crazy early Uair: It comes out fast, lasts a damn good while, and is surprisingly great at both killing and frame trapping Neutral B: Great base projectile even if it takes a moment to appear, the arrow moves fast and is pretty strong. I would be worse than Warlock Punch if it couldn't be canceled. Side B: Stalls you in the air, can OUTRANGE Belmont's side smash if you use the dashing version and can kill if tippered. Down B: Close call, but still better than Skewer for a few reasons. 1: The super armor prevents it from being interrupted unlike Ridley, who's vulnerable at the start-up. 2: While Skewer does 60% when the damage multiplier is applied, it's sweet spot is tiny compared to the big, red danger zone that is Amyr's travel path. 3: While both Amyr and Skewer can be just avoided, players need to think twice about Amyr unless they want to flex their parry skills, which no pro would dare take the risk of doing, while Skewer can be shielded no problem. Up B: Not only is it the best tether grab in the game, but also a disrespectful kill move and even being the penultimate move in a ton of combos says a lot of how much better it is than sing.

Great video as always, just a quick note: after playing the long startup animation, Snake's forward smash actually comes out frame 3 when you let go of the button. This lets you react to recoveries and ledge options way better than you might think, especially because it lasts 3 frames and it's fairly noncommittal to go for thanks to its low endlag. Not sure if this makes it pass the Dedede forward smash threshold (that move actually has frame 7 charge release so you can react to neutral getup with it) but it definitely gives it a lot more use in a vacuum than meets the eye.

In the context of Snake's kit, most certainly. A good player can get a good amount of mileage out of it by setting it up with grenades, mortar, or missile. However, as Mock said, context does not apply here. Without a means of setup, landing Snake's f-air is very unreliable and you'd be better off with Mario's f-air in almost all scenarios because it's faster. To make matters worse, f-airs are staples in the movesets of many, many characters, and spikes are relatively niche compared to what most other f-airs offer in combo or spacing utility or general kill power. Again, Snake's f-air isn't worthless. It just requires setup, and you can't depend on having access to that when you're building a character using the methodology Mock used.

As a Ridley main I got to say that people give Ridley's down air way more shit than it deserves and that is because people are using it wrong. It's not a landing dair, its an edgeguarding dair. Yes this sounds dumb but hear me out. The last buff Ridley got increased his up b distance by approximately one jump length. This fixed dairbecause you can now double jump offstage, dair, fly towards the ledge with your third jump and up b back to ledge. This is absolutely AMAZING for punishing medium to low recoveries because you can dair decently far offstage and still make it back now Even prepatch it was still a good guillotine move onstage

Ok, let’s see some positives on these moves! Jab: As you said, Samus’ essentially one-hit jab does help her in setups and kill confirms. S-tilt: Again, as you said, Bayo’s flurry has great damage. That’s about it, though... D-tilt: Puff can at least *maybe* get an aerial string out of it. U-tilt: If you can pull off a read with this thing, it deals about as much damage as an FSmash, breaks shields in one hit, and can 2frame if you’re absolutely godlike. Dash Attack: Dedede’s slide is actually the strongest dash attack in the game, and can kill from center stage at 75%. It can also 2-frame with a lingering hitbox that is still fairly strong. FSmash: Snake’s is one of the strongest in the game, has very little endlag, and has a semi-large explosion. Up Smash: Well, at least it can crit? Down Smash: ...Yeah, I’ve got nothing. Nair: Ignoring Little Mac’s, Olimar basically has a slightly worse version of Mario dair, which is still pretty decent. Fair: Obviously, it can spike if sweetspotted and has pretty good damage. Bair: Plant’s bair has a very large hitbox as well as great damage and knockback. Dair: Stall-&-Falls can at least be used to make tricky movement mix-ups and are good Hail Marys. Up air: All the upsides you said yourself. It has belly armor, his head is intangible at the start of the move, it kills, and he does do a little hop. Neutral B: Ganon has very impressive armor during the move, heavily punishing anyone who tries to hit him, which is likely due to how long it takes for someone to realize he’s using Warlock Punch, and it kills very impressively. Side B: You can cancel it semi-quickly. Down B: This thing deals a whopping *60%* when sweetspotted can keeps foes in a rather long hitstun, allowing it to “combo” into several other kill moves. Edit: I genuinely believe Falcon Punch is worse due to its similar frame data, but lack of armor and less damage, while also becoming WEAKER when turned around as opposed to stronger.

Sonics Dair specifically ends earlier than the others, so it can used to escape juggling situations without landing with lag. It is one of the few that can be recovered from offstage, which works well with the fact that it has an ok spike hitbox.

Wario's down smash, as a Wario main, is one of the riskiest moves to throw out, almost ever. However, it has reasonable start-up and is capable of beating normal, jump, and roll get-ups depending on spacing and kills reasonably early with an actually fantastic angle. Jigglypuff's is worse, because this down smash accomplishes certain things that some characters might actually want

Jiggs main here and I agree because most of puffs moves beside uptilt and dash attack are overshadowed by puffs better moves. Basically the opposite of little Mac; good air attacks but poor ground game.

I think an honorable mention should go to Terry's back B. Sure, it's the ONLY back B, but if a character has that without Terry's gimmick of always facing the character, there's no way to use it reliably and it would just cause a bunch of accidental SD's

Remember, the tier list isn't judging anything that relies on a certain aspect of a character. The mechanic that Terry always faces his opponent (and therefore can actually input back b) makes this not a valid move. Also, it's a good move

As a shulk main I think shulk's jab is way worse than Samus Samus's jab could possibly find niche uses in a random moveset But shulk's jab just can't do anything at all, not even in shulk's own kit, since it lacks range, does barely any damage, has too much endlag and knockback to follow up, even in buster or shield, but also has too little knockback to kill or set up for edgeguarding, even in smash art

Yeah Ridley dair really isn’t good. He makes a good argument but Ridley dair is just so fucking underwhelming. The spike hitbox as a stall n fall is pathetically small, the actual hitbox is only on his legs, and there’s NO LANDING HITBOX WHY If there was a landing hitbox it would be significantly better

Nah rollout is better. You can use it to cover multiple get up options at once, it goes through shield and does good shield damage, it can be redirected like 3 times, and it charges and moves pretty quick now. Plus, you could even use it for recovery if you had to. Warlock punch is only good if you get a shield break.
