This is something that is easy to miss about adaptation: Staying true to the source is important(I prefer for everything to be tuned towards faithfulness first) but you have to understand why those elements *worked* in the source. Simply dropping something from a completely different context into a new medium is going to require some adjustments and tweaking in order to make it function. I feel like there's a lot of ways they could have represented this stage that stayed true to the original without it being a nightmare to play on...
@Endershock16783 жыл бұрын
I really dont get why they didnt choose the first stage of the game with the slopes, kinda like Morray towers, and keep the hazards to just the first stage hazards like the barrels and fire. Sure, it probably would still be bad, but it probably wouldn't be the worst stage in ultimate

@dustymcwari44683 жыл бұрын
Yeah, maybe a rather big 25m with like just two-three long kinda tilted platforms and breakable barrels, like let the players fight on the stage without hazards first, and then at some time arcade DK appears and begins throwing barrels at a rather slow pace, barrels you can either break by attacking them or getting hit by them, or jump over with some cute sound, and the barrels themselves doing minor damage and knockback just enough so you can recover and move away from the other incoming barrels or opponents, then DK stops and goes back, and repeat cycle for as long as the match continues. And if you want more chaos, just add the lil flame dude moving from platform to platform and there ya go, while the ladders should just be aesthetic

In regards to ladders in games, I think they were handed well in the older assassin's creed games. In a game where climbing was a necessity a ladder was often a smart and fast choice. It got you to a rooftop faster than scaling the wall and it was easy. The trade off was that it just as simple for enemies. They could get up on the roof as fast as you or even beat you to the top to corner you if you were climbing up the wall instead.
@syrelian3 жыл бұрын
It also opened options as designers for levels, forcing the player to use a ladder to climb a wall can invoke a position of risk or exposure that a more open climb might mitigate, either being spotted while climbing, or by forcing the player to arrive above(or below) at a specific point

The discussion between recreation and inspired levels and your example of Temple made me think of the two Zelda stages that are pretty close recreations of the original layouts: Great Bay and Gerudo Valley. They have some modification to accomodate for Smash Gameplay (the turtle, the elements in the rift for Gerudo) but they still feel like directly lifted from the games. I personally love them for that feel, but I don't think I consider them good smash stages even with the minor tweeks... Great Bay I clearly don't find it very fun (though swimable water make it better) and Gerudo I haven't played on it enough to say for sure.

I will offer this purpose of the stage: The simple act of navigating it is a challenge. This makes it a functional stage in single player content where that fact shifts from a hinderance on the experience to its focus. The most notable example is the Pauline Spirit fight, one of the most memorable in the game for combining a time limit, a hard to kill enemy running away from you, and a hard hitting enemy who its in your best interest to avoid with the difficulties of navigating 75m. Is that enough to justify its conclusion in the main stage list? No, that should be reserved for stages that are enjoyable or at least functional for the primary game mode of multiplayer battles. But I'd still like to see it continue on in the ranks of single player mode stages alongside the Metal Mario stage, the Galeem and Darkon fight arenas, and others.

Besides, a lot of people will skip any sponsored segment anyway, and enough people are tired of Squarespace/SkillShare/CuriousityStream/Raycon that any single sponsor isn't going to cause as much of an outrage by itself. Hell, Raid is almost nostalgic.

One crucial point that I think is worth bringing up in how 75m fails is simply how easy it is for new players to die for no reason. All those gaps between thin platforms are an annoyance for people that know how to play but are almost tailor-made for inexperienced players to slip through and lose a stock, it turns even basic navigation and recovery into a potentially lethal scenario. It's the same problem that haunts stages like Gaur Plains and to a lesser extent Palutena's Temple, they all have large sections of the stage that basically exist solely to test a skill that most new players are very weak in, which then leads to them either dying randomly or alternatively trying to find a safe spot to camp rather than actively get into the fight.

To answer your question about "did they need to use the NES version," apparently there actually was a legal dispute over the ownership of the code of the arcade version until 2018, a few months before Ultimate launched. Same. I always thought they'd bring that back, using amiibo functionality in a Skylanders Swap Force kind of way, where we could build our robos and scan them in. The closest we got to this functionality was Starlink: Battle for Atlas, where wings and weapons can be physically swapped out on your ship. Sadly, that game was a commercial flop. I won't get into why, but now it's set a poor precedent, and we'll now likely never get a collectible figure-building Custom Robo.

I think the best direction to take with 75m would’ve been a vertical scroller like icicle mountain. Emphasizes the donkey Kong objective of reaching the top. Wouldn’t be perfect, but couldn’t be worse

I don't think the game that added Final Smashes and random tripping needed to add a map for random bullshit. Brawl did that well enough already on other stages (and items on high), and the same thing carries over to other games in the series.

(1:00) You're one of the few people who actually knows how to pronounce the name of the stage. A lot of people say "75 em", but it is actually "75 metres". This is because the metric symbols aren't pronounced by each letter, so "km" is not pronounced "kay-em", but "kilometre". It's similar to how you don't say "10 eff-tee", or "10 apostrophe" but "10 feet".

Okay I'm Canadian and I know it's "metres" but I still sometimes call it "75 em". I really don't know why cause if I was in like a Math class I'd say "75 metres" because "75 em" sounds dumb. not gonna lie, i probably _would_ pronounce a stage called "10ft" as "10 eff-tee" ... or, well, not "eff-tee," but _some_ sort of horrible mash up of an f and a t sound that my brain makes when reading ft as ft instead of feet. we _are_ talking about a proper noun, after all, and it's not _called_ "75 meters." that's obviously what it stands for, sure, but we're not talking about something that's 75 meters long or higher ( even if the latter is what the stage is named after ), but ... 75m think it can be related to stuff like "atm machine," even if atm isn't a proper noun. sure, atm _stands_ for automatic teller machine ... but it isn't automatic teller machine, it's atm. it's become its own word independent of its origins, and so if someone ends up associating it with the general purpose of an atm and not specifically a _machine_ that performs it, they're probably gonna end up calling 'em atm machines because ... they're machines you can use as an atm. similarly, consider people who pronounce lmao as, well, le-mao honestly, i think assuming that people _don't_ know m is pronounced meters showcases your own lack of linguistical knowledge more than anything. it usually doesn't take much more than just passive digging into the field to realize that any formal rules of a language tend to go to fuck before long. or medium. or even short ... which i think i just demonstrated on several levels with that, without even trying

For me, "Items Off" 75m is pretty mediocre. With Items On, though, it jumps to being among the best of the Mega Stages. Its singular open space in combination with the abundance of different platform heights makes 75m a great place to snipe opponents with Items, Item tosses, and Final Smashes. The Trouble Bugs are fun for Hothead and Blast Box shenanigans. Despite 75m not having any trouble spots for recovering offstage, the Super Leaf and Rocket Belt are still nice, too. Their mobility buffs lessen the onstage annoyances of the ladders and unusual jumps between platforms.

i’m saying making just battlefield but ladders. ooh, maybe ladders offstage, moving left and right while attached to something. infinitely more fun than 75m
@nocturn3333 жыл бұрын
Having a good place to stand on is the most important part of a stage. 90% of issues with stages ultimately boils down to not having unreliable or unbalanced safe and dangerous spots. Stage hazards and walk offs make certain spots far more dangerous. Travelling and transforming stages forces these spots to constantly be on the move. Asymmetrical stages shift the safe spot to one side of the stage, closer to one of the blast zones, making it an uncomfortable position to be in.
