Impressive for FDM - I think your problems with sealing would be a lot less if you printed in SLA or Polyjet.

I wish I had an sla or poly jet budget. I need a lathe next so I don't have to thread the shafts with a die by hand.

Hi, I have a Rockshox 35 RL gold. I'd like to try one of your dampers. Where are you based? Do you have an option for the 35 Gold I can purchase to test unit or final product? How far have you got with this project? Also I have access to a 3D printer and a guy who knows how to use it. :)

I don’t believe this damper fits the 35 gold or recon. I think they use a different diameter damper. I kind of gave up on this project to be honest since I don’t have any rs forks anymore.

Are you making these for old school forks, I have a 318 that needs one desperately
@leafydialupking13 жыл бұрын
I could for sure, I just need a factory damper to get sizing off of. Once I was happy with this design and got it launched I was planning to do recon/35 gold next, but there probably is a bunch of guys with those old forks that can't even get parts anymore that would be interested.

@@leafydialupking1 DO.....THE....35 GOLD. That fork is completely hamstrung by SRAM. There's a thread on mtbr titled "Rockshox 35 Gold RL Disassemble - What's Inside?" - search for it (it includes a link to your floodgate spacer STL). If you have a Recon gold you always have options for shimmed Motion Control DNA RCT3 and shimmed rebound dampers. Recons with steel stanchions - not so much. If you need any dimensions for the 35 Gold MoCo, just ask. It's basically a 32mm MoCo with a larger topcap (that has a 0.8mm thread pitch that's incompatible with anything else SRAM sells) and larger diameter base.

There are definitely thousands of guys with old Recons and Rebas that Rock shox discontinued the oem moco dampers on. Can't buy them anywhere. You can't really even find a nice upgraded fork either when you don't have a tapered steer tube. My gate pin popped out on my reba and can't find a new damper for it. My shock still works great, but control knob and gate pin are now held on with tape. So I can't adjust compression dampening without removing tape. I have a sweet old bike too. First year 29er stumpjumper they ever made. 2008. Thousands of guys in same boat as me.

Hey, impressive stuff! Have you found anywhere in your research a resource for the sizes of thread and internal stanchion diameter for Rockshox forks?
@leafydialupking12 жыл бұрын
I can’t find my notes at the moment but I’m sure I measured it. It was definitely a standard thread profile so you should be able to figure it out yourself with some caliper and a thread pitch gage.
@underbikedoverconfident11422 жыл бұрын
@@leafydialupking1 ah, ok. Thank you. I read something on an online forum that said they didn't use standard thread sizes. The problem is these types of sources aren't always reliable. I guess as you say a tear down of my own fork is the most reliable source.
@leafydialupking12 жыл бұрын
@@underbikedoverconfident1142 Well they dont use standard sizes, but they do use standard thread form. Like the profile of the thread is the same as a normal bolt not like an ACME thread or some other special profile so you can use standard thread pitch gages on it and you could use a normal single pointing tool to make the thread on a lathe. But the threads are odd sizes, like the thread I printed on this part is M34x0.5 Left Hand, way finer than any normal M34 and not Right Hand as standard.
@underbikedoverconfident11422 жыл бұрын
@@leafydialupking1 OK, got it. Thank you, seriously this has been super helpful information. I was worried it was some sort of strange threads my eyes and gauge wouldn't pick up. That I can deal with.
