Hes talking about apple , and tesla as examples where if you dont pay for certain monthly subscriptions you basically cannot use the product you pay for in the way it will run optimally. Another example that ive read about recently is when buying a subscription to have ink for your printer HP printers automatically assume your ink has run out and your printer wont print after a certain amount of time has elapsed even though the customer has barely printed anything. So in effect you're not outright owning the product but must pay a monthly subscription to the company that makes it so it can work properly. Tesla for example has a subscription for charging the car faster . Imagine having to pay a monthly subscription to be able to fill up your car as quickly at the pump as you can now or otherwise be able to fill it up in say 20 minutes @akaElvira666

Amazing that Apple was allowed to change their business model to planned obsolescence. There’s collusion with app companies, constantly having to upgrade apps, and by extension, operating systems that only run on new models. I’m convinced my older MacBooks used to handle graphics processing better, and it was great updating RAM and hard drives. Now if you want install more than one or two Adobe applications like you used to you or you want processing power like you had before, you need to pay 4x the price. I did that number for over 20 years before I switched to Apple. Now I fiddle around with Linux and networking and other devices as a hobby, but my main daily drivers that I make money with, I want that stuff to work. There will always be abuses and corruption in human activities. But overall it has given EVERYONE in the West a better standard of living. Even the poor in the west are much better off than the poor in much of the world. I have great empathy for peoples who are struggling. It can be very difficult to overcome the inertia of poverty. But instead of focusing on tearing down what we have built, we need to help others overcome the hurdles to being a productive economy for all of their people, and to continue making our own society better. We can't do that by allowing government to suck the life out of our societies with rampant and unproductive spending.

As a long time Apple user (since the early nineties), working in both graphic design and music production, I have decided that my next upgrade won’t be an Apple brand. Under mr Cook the Apple brand has turned around from innovative, repairable, upgradable and e-waste friendly into a money making scam machine. Shiny on the outside, but full of tricks under the hood. Just to let you throw away your perfectly working older device, and make you buy more expensive new devices.

The shareholder value model does not serve the purposes of representational governments and should be reassessed in line with ethically derived shareholder value thereby capturing relevant taxes in all traded domains, employee welfare, sourcing etc. this will of course harm net value to shareholders but they’ve got away with this for long enough.
@70newlifeАй бұрын
This model was invented so that landed nobles could pool their money and give it to commissioned officers of the Royal armies who scouted trading investments in the third world colonies. The wealth came from profiteering of rich people from gold and silver captured from America's after Genociding the locals. Once the commissioned officers found opportunities abroad they used the power of the Royal military to force local rulers to agree to their terms.

This , of course , could be said of many companies that are extremely profitable. I think regulation is the way to help curb these tactics. I still beleive that Apple makes a great product and I do love the way Apple products seamlessly work together. I'm also not a guy that MUST HAVE the newest product. If what I have is working , why replace it? This " planned obsolecence " has to be stopped. I just had my iPhone 11 battery replaced by Apple for $130 canadian. Try buying a phone for that price. While doing the work, they broke my screen and replaced it at no cost to me. I now have a phone that works like brand new and I am very pleased with it. I'm not pleased that Apple will stop supporting it in September 2025.

Technology has advanced to such a user friendly degree, that the amount of restrictions placed on tech is very strange. Computers used to live exclusively in a world of pre builts for home use. Now, almost anyone can build a PC by themselves with very little knowledge as most everything is plug and play at this point. Your choices are really limited to intel vs AMD for processors, Nvidia vs AMD for GPU’s and everything else is just fluff. Phones were the start of locked in technology. Phones need to be more modular. I should be able to break open my phone and upgrade every component as I see fit, just like I do with my pc’s. As a society, we need to stop allowing people to contract our lives away with “leased products” that we have no true control over. Apple owns the phones, the software, the privacy statements. It’s insane. You spend $1,300+ on a device that you have absolutely 0 control over and are subject to the whims of the company. We have gone the wrong direction with technology when it comes to consumer rights.

As long as people follow the cult of Apple, the cult of Tesla, the cult of (insert your favorite giant here), they'll keep doing it. It works, people keep buying. If ppl don't revolt and demand their rights they sure as hell not going to give it to you. I'm happy to live with a dumb phone. It can ring and send sms, that's all I need it to do. I recently got a robot vacuum cleaner, and after testing it for a couple days I returned it to the store. When they asked why, and if there was something wrong with the unit, I just replied "The app can't run in "offline" mode (as in, without internet access), therefore, I might as well get a cheaper model, if I can't access the "smart" functions of the unit. I also didn't agree with their terms of services, that required me to update the unit every time a new firmware was out. If everyone in the world, stopped giving these companies the right to dictate what one can and can't do with the stuff yone payed and bought, and just return them to the store, then I can assure you they would stop this practice, or got belly up.
@iRelevant.47.system.boycottАй бұрын
I disagree with Phones being the start of locked in technology. Mobiles started out with replaceable batteries, even my first Android 'smart phone' had old-skool replaceable battery. It was Apple who started it all with their locked in iPod music players. Now it is even more locked in even on the component level, need 'original' memory and internal SSD drives from Apple. In essence Microsoft and Apple have destroyed the open community spirit of earlier days of computer technology, climbed up the ladder and pulled it up with them. There is no garage tech startup these days, more a beautiful boomer story. Innovation and creativity ruined by big corps moving in to capitalize the f* out of everything. It is going downhill.

Sad part is that practically it is impossible now unless everyone follows it. All smartphones are very expensive, all become obsolete after a few years (iPhone at least lasts for six to seven years), all have access to our data, all have security and privacy issues (again Apple is somewhat better), all entice people in buying newer devices. Working for $2 an hour or less 20 hours per day with no days off until you are suddenly fired is how America has done the Chinese citizens, and they don't love us for it. The humanity of it all, that's what this story is about. It has nothing to do with computers or technology at all. You can replace the word computer and Technology with any other product, like a Presidential Election and the results are the same. It matters not if you buy an Apple product or some other product made the same way, by slaves in China, Vietnam, or India.

And to think I remember when this company was on the brink way back when and then they came out with a little item called the "iPod" and it was a game changer. They took off after that. And now look at where they are.

Thank you, a lot of this stuff I didn't have a lot of knowledge about and am more informed now because go this video. I'm still satisfied with my MacBook and Iphone (it's not the newest models) but I'm going into the tech world now more informed. Peace guys! Appreciate the knowledge.

The problem is people think what you have makes you a better person. things don't make a person being human n feelings n thinking makes you who you are not things or products

U hit the mark. If u reverse engineer ur comment, apple actually markets the iPhone that exact way. It markets to ur emotions/feelings.

I've always thought of apple products as electronics for kids and women who don't really understand them and just want stuff that looks pretty.

Apple's ROI is usually around 50%, ExxonMobile around 9% (very rough estimates) Who's evil and greedy in this picture?

The soundbites on this video flip between showing someone criticize Apple for doing X, then the next clip criticizing Apple for not doing X enough. And no one mentioning how they've walked this tightrope as honestly and geniusly like no other company to still delivering the best solution for everyone.

30:40 "company turning bad later". They still did. Sure, they gave the user the option to turn on/off certain options. But the company vaguely, if at all, mentions the tech or option like it's nothing. Then they bury that options so deep it's almost impossible to find, even for a tech savvy person. Same crime, different packaging.

The number of versions of iOS it took to supposedly 'solve' the pegasus problem was a confidence killer.

You might have missed a chance to become free from the MS$$ windooze mess. To me that was a major reason to swap form windows , not to Linux ,I have tried for a while. I was so much tiered of fighting the windooze mess it was a big step till OS 10.6.8, not to mention the 10.7 Lion crap. It worked OK to the point when Apple made it impossible to upgrade computers after purchase. I stuck with what I have from computer made in 2017. I will not buy more of apple stuff.

A phone - a device to communicate between two people just like a two way radio across the world or across the street. Why TF do we need the world’s most power processor to do this? If you want a computer or tablet, buy a computer or tablet. JUST to talk to someone else, have a basic ass phone! Console market, releases a new console about once every 5-10 years for one function. Phones should be the same!!! I miss being able to make my Nokia phone my own with LEDs all over the place and different buttons, etc. I miss that market.
