Can we all just appreciate the masterful cuts in audio and video here? Whoever is putting these together is doing a phenomenal job. Great lectures, great editing, just great all around.

Very nice explanation of the concepts and the proposal of each assumption that he takes. Respect

at 13:18 professor assumes the particle to be of macroscopic size . How does these set of particles get generated out of the initial state? Most of the system tend to be homogenous why is given system having such a distinction of large and small size particle?

at 25:13 can we give a justification for the evolution by assuming it as an ensemble of quantum mechaincs with a density operator given and further the system evloves unitarily . Can we state that system evolves unitarily?

at 5:36 professor says that particle is confined to region r0 and velocity v0 since it is a finite region in phase space why is the initial phase space density infinite

which book would be suggested for statistical mechanics for B.Sc and M.Sc for someone who is slow and detailed learner for basic learning?...Please recommend.

There are many good books at this level. May be you can follow Kardar's book on statistical Physics along with his lectures available on youtube

As being a slow and detailed learner myself...I suggest read Greiner. Comparing the approach of other readers, I find his book complete and with right notions of what Stat mech is.

what is extremely annoying about these videos is how the camera moves around for every little movement of the Professor . The camera work is really stupid and makes it hard to focus on the board, and strains the eye enormously. What is the need to track as he moves every inchr??? The lecture is o the board not his face! Also there is a frequent gap in the audio. As much as I admire these recordings it is really a pity that a great treasure like these lectures is permanently marred by idiotic camera work.
