Most of the time, these professors complete their PHDs in US and come back. I studied at IIT. Students from IITs go on to have very successful careers due to the solid foundation.

If you write u1 and u2 instead of ui and uj, and write F1 and F2 instead of Fi, Fj, you can easily interpret the physical meaning that " kij is the force that has to be applied at j in order to have unit displacement at I"

But when we took an element we considered the forces acting on that element, then why in the end while forming matrices we took F2 = 0 (why we take only external forces, while when were analyzing we had considered the forced on single element????)

How? Can you elaborate - When you multiply row 1 , you get k1*0 + -k1*u2 + 0*u3= F1 which implies F1=-k1*u2
@marikagabbianelli7 жыл бұрын
there are no external forces applied at nodes 1 or 2 - fr this reason f1 and f2 will both be 0. the only external force is applied at node 3 which is why f3=p
@akshay61356 жыл бұрын
Anjan: see the figure.. In the fig there are 3 node .. the nod 1 is at fixed end .. so the displacement at the fixed end become zero{u1=o}

Question : at the end of the day isnt the fixed point just having an equivalent force to the opposite side of the force ? Why can't we put the force there ?
@janakamohotti3 жыл бұрын
because there is no displacement at the fixed point. F=ku. when u is zero, the force there will be zero as well

how 1st row and 1st column get cancelled for u1 = 0
@SiriusBlack-qo3xi7 жыл бұрын
It affects other equation (ie for F2 and F3) in no way....each time the u1=0 will make its term zero.
@bvk96865 жыл бұрын
Because node 1 was fixed so there could be zero displacement in position of node 1. So displacement u becomes 0 and when u solve the matrix 1st row and column do get multiplied with 0 that gives the ans 0 only. So to save time we just eliminate the row n column as it's no use to continue with them
