This was pleasant to watch. During lockdown I modified some f-91w with my children to invert the lcd display, change the led and add an nfc tag. Really nice projects, and mistakes are not too expensive.

I don't care for sensors, but I want a programmable digital watch that drives a nice segmented LCD display. "Digital" "smart" watches are really scarce, and they always steal your data, and have bad software. It would be also nice if they made a custom PCB for bigger Casios, like calculator or databank watches, and added some kind of radio, Bluetooth, Wifi, or other computer interface, USB, Datalink or something.

yea .. it doesn't seem to do much without DIY programming. If it pushed the local weather from my phone, had a compass, extensive timers / stop watches and maybe a microdrive I could store data on ... then I'd be cooking ....

@@ComsiCaterpillar It actually doses a lot! Pretty much all the usefull cool and quirky features that you can think of are already written, tested on hardware and merged in to the main repo. I think you're missing the point of this project. Comparing to the stock 593 module this thing goes beyond what we ever had in such a small form factor. If you take it more as a module upgrade that makes it incredibly accurate (self drift correction, temperature drift corection), anmd then sprinkle on top some cool features like custom tunes, timers, stop watches, counters, moon phases, random number generator, 2 factor authorization, temperature measuring and logging, this thing is handful of features. Right now the main dev is after adding accelerometer for a step counter from what I know. Try the watch builder for yourself (this is mostly for people that don't want to play with code, it's always better to compile by yourself): sensor-watch-builder.fly.dev/

1:35 the PCB has what looks to be USB micro as a bare edge connectors- I'd wager you just plug a USB micro cable onto those and it'd enumerate as a USB device.

Why would you use metal tweezers to hold the battery like that. You’re connecting the positive and negative and shorting the battery. You can buy plastic tweezers.

Interesting. I have to check if pcb plate is compatible with my A163w. Although that would be just for the sake of experimenting, i dont really miss any feature on my watch.

I know it would be a power draw but I desperately want bluetooth for this so I can get my continuous glucose monitor (for diabetes) results to the watch. That would be my ideal watch.

Yes you definitely can! In my next video I'll show how you can use a simple online tool to quickly create a custom firmware. This firmware can have nearly any arrangement of watch faces and one of the options available is a rate counter face. I'm not sure about metronome though.
