If you are an AMD User see below to enable Ambient Occlusion and Anti-aliasing
To configure AO,
- install and start radeon pro www.radeonpro.i...
- choose the add new profile button on the top left (page icon with a little +)
- find and select the mass effect exe,
- when it appears in the left menu right click it and choose 'add to ambient occlusion list',
- choose the settings button from the top (little cog icon), choose ambient occlusion
- find mass effect in the right list then click edit
- in the variable field add nearZ:300,farZ:2000,firstI:1,lastI:2
- in the Bit Flags field, clear it then add 0x01364080
- Save
- Tick the Enable Ambient Occlusion checkbox
- Click Save again
- Select Mass Effect in the left list
- While under the visual tab on the right
- Tick the ambient occlusion box
- Adjust the type and quality
- Exit out and start mass effect
To Configure AA
- Follow the previous AO section to install radeon pro and select Mass Effect
- Go to visual section on the left
- tick the Anti-aliasing box
- Choose 'Override Application Settings'
- Move the slider to what level of MultiSampling AA you would like

If you're using MEUITM or ALOT for ME1, do not make *any* changes to the ini files related to graphics settings from this guide - the installer will automatically apply settings that work. For ME1 especially, using incorrect values will crash the game. I'm the developer for ALOT installer. We had a user come into our discord with issues mixing this guide with ALOT/MEUITM.

Really appreciate the time and effort you put into this. Only gripe I have is the BG music sometimes spikes when you pause. Its not a big deal but having a nice solid volume is always nice.

Whenever I use the custom NVIDIA control panel settings I get this weird light glitch that blinds the whole screen. Also everytime I start up the game I get to warning screens. Anyone able to help with this?

I can't give a definite fix for the issues but your pc should obviously be able to run the game properly. Here are a few things to try first: - Start the game with compatibility mode set to Windows XP SP2. - Disable any ingame overlays (Origin or Steam) - Make sure the game is actually using your GPU and not the intergrated intel hd

+DAKNAP Hello and greetings, while installing the pack, it asked for a file. "meuitm.2" and the files i extracted all are labeled me1uitm.(xx) and so i tried renaming the file from me1uitm to meuitm, decrompression error. it asks for a disk two. I wasnt informed of this step in the readme and am having trouble finding any information on how to handle this issue, I made sure i ran as administrator and everything is extracted from their respective zip archives. may I have a explanation, and maybe the readme should include this installation step perhaps? to be clear this is an issue with just installing it. it pops up askign for disk 2, and i go to browse and it wants to find the file meuitm.2 for some reason I am having a hard time posting fress posts so I have to deal with making replies for now.

+MrBool124 Make sure you have all 7 meuitm files plus the exe itself. Place them somewhere on your disk, possibly in a new folder on your root disk to avoid admin rights issues. When running the exe, make sure you its as an admin. If all else fails, you may have to try the torrent version as its less prone to data corruption.

I appreciate the swift reply, however I have made sure i ran as admin and that they are all together. I even re-extracted the files together to make sure there wasnt a missing file. however my issue isnt getting the installer to start or run. I made very sure i specifically followed the directions as direct as possible down to the letter, even unknowingly at the time modifying the .ini file before downloading XD anyways my issue it when I sleelct my mass effect folder in my steam directory. it starts installing files, then after it gets so far it asks me to select a .2 file called meuitm, which all the files i extracted are called me1uitm. i tried forcing it to use them it makes me abort. i tried renaming the file. makes me abort. at the moment I am at a loss with this issue and I have been looking for evidence of others having this issue. i thought i have at one point however the person with the issue with the installer was never specific about what was going on, making it hard to understand what the issue was or if it was at all related to mine.

There is not BIOengine.cfg for me.... There is only a BIOengine.ini... is that the same thing? I found the same settings you wanted me to alter in that folder.

Thanks a lot for this video. This is my first modding experience and it went rather smoothly, considering. That said, I did go outside the bounds and tried to activate something called ComplexLightBlender or something similar which made it so that even the starting Bioware logo would crash. Why would the devs leave a config option for something that has no associated files?

Mass Effect is built on the unreal engine so it could be one of the many options Bioware didn't implement.

I am not sure but I think that Radeon Pro does not actually change anything. I think I've once read that this could be because of Windows 8.1.

***** I don't have any radeon cards to test with but I would check by trying it on a more supported game at an AA level that would cause performance issues. If its anything like Nvidia inspector then some of the settings should be in the regular Catalyst Control Panel with Radeon Pro just giving more options.

Followed all your instructions. PC has 4GB of RAM & AMD Athlon Processor II 64 GHz 3.00 Added M.E.U.I.T.M, FPS Counter, and tweaked the BIOEngine.ini with the ones you said. The game runs smoother and the details are fine, smoother graphics and better armor. The problem is the colors in most areas are muddy, washed-out, almost brown. What settings do I need to tweak to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Would there be a way to replace the full combat armor that Shepard is wearing on the bridge of the Normandy in the beginning with his dress uniform? This always drove me crazy. Everyone else is in their dress blues except him. There is no reason he would be in full combat armor there.

Doesn't sound possible. There are ways to change the armour models using me explorer but I think you would end up with all of that type of armour looking like clothing.

So I downloaded the Nvidia inspector but I don't see how you get to the profiles. All I can see are the current settings on the graphics card. How can I get to the part of it you show in this video?

What if I installed the game onto hard drive D instead of my C drive would I still go through the user directory on the C drive to get to the BIOengine.ini?

BIOEngine.ini will be on the drive you have your OS installed on most likely. Probably C:\.

I'm on windows 10 when I right clicked the mass effect shortcut, the "Shortcut" option wasn't there, instead replaced by web document, and there was no way to run it as admin.

+tacoblocko Have you installed it via steam per chance? if you have you see steam://rungameid/17460"" instead. Just make a shortcut of the ME exe within the Mass Effect Binaries folder. Then you can set admin under advanced settings. But I don't know if it's actually required for steam versions though.

Nice guide!! I have a problem with Mass 1, I have an i7 4770 + R9 270x + 16GB Ram + windows 7 enterprise + Last amd drivers + 1080p, but when i run the game i only get 20 FPS, do you know what is the problem? Please could you tell me, THANK YOU!

I had problem. It worked but when after missions in comm room were opening cutscenes, i had maybe 0,2 FPS because there was rendering textures. but when it stopped rendering, it was ok. next when i allowed council to speak with me after briefing, council was rendering too and when the council showed up, i had 1 FPS peer 10 sec. and then it always crashes. i have old pc but it isn't that bad. mass effect 2 & 3 is not having this problem. It started doing this, when i installed this texture packs and in bioengine i customed settings. please help!!! :(

Can't give a definite answer as I haven't had low fps problems. First check would be to disable ambient oclusion and anti aliasing in nvidia inspector and test if you used those changes. Next would be to reduce MaxShadowResolution to 2048 and test. Otherwise you might not have enough VRAM on your gpu to deal with the texture pack.

I did everything on here. But I have a shading issue. It goes from regular lighting to the darkest shadowing. My femshep sometimes looks as though oil was thrown on her. It's not shimmering, it's like motor oil. Is there a fix for over shadding?

wingy158 You might be referring to the issues with dynamic shadows and if so there isn't much that can be done. You can remove the effect by disabling dynamic shadows or by changing the depthbias value to other settings such as 0.03 in the bioengine.ini file.

I haven't seen the same problem on my install. If you are having issues with the anti aliasing, try different settings such as standard MSAA alone. Otherwise it might just not like your configuration of drivers leaving you with only fxaa or the new dsr which you can activate through the nvidia control panel.

Hey. Thanks for the video, it really helped me out. Though my gpu only runs at ~70% and there are fps drops ingame. It only happened to me with another title, being blade and soul, it's due to poor coding and stuff. How do I get rid of these fps drops.

There are a couple of ways you can get sudden fps drops. It could be your GPU is running out of vram, it could be your cpu bottlenecking the gpu or it could be another issue. Check how much vram your card has and if it has less than 2 gb of vram then it might be too little for the texture pack. Also check your cpu load as the drops are happening using task manager.

As a first check, ensure you are on a 64bit OS (likely). Ensure the game starts without the LAA patch and if all else fails there appear to be some additional steps for origin copies. The link has more details on this from the mod author of MEUITM. www.nexusmods.com/masseffect/mods/1/?

If you can't find the BIOengine.cfg file, make sure you have started the game at least once. If you still can't find it, run a search on your computer for BIOengine.cfg which should either be in (USERNAME)/Documents/Bioware/Config or My Documents/Bioware/Config.

Michael Wear Make sure you haven't downloaded the tpfs version. You should just have an exe that you can run like in the video.

DAKNAP what do you mean by tpfs, in the winrar zip file i have and exe file and parts 2-7 and a read me. when i extracted those files i did so on my desktop. i ran the laa patcher changed all of the things in the BIOengine and ran the mod. i directed it to my mass effect folder in the origin games folder (i have the trilogy). when i load the game and start a new game the only texture to have loaded properly seems to be the soldiers n7 gear and shepards face. all the others are blurry. also i dont know if this matters but during the first cutscene the games starts to stutter and stop completely... thanks for the help

Michael Wear I haven't heard of this one before so my answer might not be very accurate but I would try deleting and regenerating the ini files first. Then add the texture lines again. You could also try completely deleting the mass effect folder from your username/documents/bioware if you don't have any saves. Mass Effect 1 should work fine on windows 10. Make sure you are using the latest drivers for your gpu.

I don't know of any other way to change these settings. Nvidia inspector just allows you to make more advanced changes than the nvidia control panel. There is an overclocking pane but it is disabled unless you activate it and I wouldn't worry about the overclocking funtions unless you actually enable it.

Well im new to this modding. the only ones i have exp with is Skyrim and thats completely different. :S i was just worried because when i opened inspector it mentioned the overclocking and the damage possibility. So i got a little worried about what i was doing. Where to is the part where you make sure the overclocking is switched off? if you dont mind me asking :D

As long as you don't click show overclocking. You can't use the overlocking function. It will even warn you when you click it so just ignore that button and your good.

After i installed the shadow brotherhood revenge mod, everything has been made like 10x harder. i dont know what to do. its become that hard im stuck in tatooine against those dark jedi as theyr now accompanied by a master :S any advice ?

Thanks for the feedback, really do appreciate it. I forgot to add the correct links for brotherhood of shadow to the description so hopefully you installed Brotherhood of Shadow Solomons revenge and not just Brotherhood of Shadow. Make a copy of your game folder just incase anything goes wrong when patching. There is also a 1.1 patch that fixes some of the balance issues that you might have missed (see below). Can you PLEASE make a video showing how to INSTALL/USE the M.E.U.I.T.M Mod. I cannot find a single video showing how to install and use this mod and its beyond frustrating. I downloaded it and when i open it with WinRar it just open all the files as single files for example: Asari.tpf There no launcher i can find within the file i downloaded. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I think I see why there is an issue. Looks like you downloaded the .tpf set version. That one doesn't have an automatic installer as its for me explorer/texmod. For some reason my Mass Effect has some insane screen flickering problem. I looked it up and what I found were less severe cases (small textures / lighting getting black boxes etc.) whereas my whole screen and lighting is flickering. Any idea what the problem might be or how to fix it?

Masta CTC You could try running it in windowed mode to see if its a problem with your refresh rate or resolution. Then you could try altering some settings or your refresh rate.

DAKNAP My monitor's resolution is 1920x1200 and the aspect ratio is 16:10, yet in game the 1920x1200 resolution has a 16:9 aspect ratio? Is there any way to change the aspect ratio, if yes how so because I don't see it?

You have to set this usually in the pre-game launcher. Check your game directory for the masseffectlauncher.

DAKNAP I'm running the game through Origin and something is seriously f*cked up here. I go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect\Binaries\Core , which is the only single path I can take and in Core I only have two files. I used to have all of the folders and files (including the BioGame folder) and now they're all missing, even the launcher to open the game. Yet I'm still able to open the game through the exe which was placed on the desktop when I installed the game, or I can launch it through origin. Sorry for all the trouble lol, but I've really been wanting to play this series this summer and this is getting frustrating.

OK, from the top. The missing files look like a bug with Origin not downloading all the files but as long as the game starts and runs I would not be bothered by this. If it doesn't try verifying the origin game. And if that doesn't work google for masseffectlauncher missing as there are some forum threads about this. For the aspect ratio thing, the aspect ratio shown ingame appears to be wrong so as long as things don't look stretched and the resolution is correct this should be ok. I wish someone would make some new areas to explore/missions. ME2 and 3 got worse and worse IMHO, not that they're terrible, just prefer the story and exploration and sci fi emphasis of ME1.

The texture mod is just an installer so you shouldn't have to manually change the game directory.

It should be in the directory where you installed the game. It can be different depending on if you got the game from Origin, Steam or Retail.

Sorry, Ist nicht von mir, HILFT ABER UNGEMEIN (It worsk perfectly) !!! So after searching the UT3 forums for like issues (ME and UT3 use the same engine) I stumbled across a post that stated the following: 1) in /program files/Mass Effect/Binaries locate the OpenAL32.dll and wrap_oal.dll files 2) Rename OpenAL32.dll to OpenAL32.bak 3) Rename wrap_oal.dll to OpenAL32.dll 4) Launch as Admin by using the MassEffect.exe 5) Enjoy you dont have to do step 4 since you are using Win 7
