The mod manager and steam consistently freeze and crash when i try to download mods. It opens the window to the mod page and after a few seconds freezes, then after a few minutes crashes

Lutris spins like it’s trying to start but doesn’t open. Seemed like reinstalling worked, now the runner options are not giving me options other than system 9.0. I saw in a different tab to go to manage wine versions, which one should i install? Im not seeing proton experimental as an option.

Lutris uses wine instead of proton. If you want proton you can use steam.

I can't remember how I got proton-experimental on lutris but I don't use it now. I was probably trying to run wemod with lutris and forced it lutris.

I can’t find vortex.exe file, even if i turn on “show hidden files”, what should I do? I downloaded Stardew directly from Steam onto my SD card by formatting the card, and I located the game file in my steamapps folder there. I tried moving the Stardew Valley game folder from steamapps to the "drive_c:" created in the prefix but for whatever reason the game folder doesn't appear to have the .exe file (according to Nexus). Thus I'm getting stuck around the 12:15 mark of the video. Is the executable moved to a different place if I install via steam onto my sd card directly? I'm trying to do the same for Baldur's gate (installing directly from Steam to my SD card) and running into the same issue of the executable not being located in the game folder.

is your game steam version? then the game folder should be in the common folder and you need to move it back to the original location after modding in order to launch the game.

So, when you go to download vortex before adding to steam it gives me errors about net 10 ect, but you completely gloss over that and keep moving and I can't get it to install on steam because of that.

Because when you download vortex you don't need to download .net. When you launch vortex for the first time after installation, it will prompt you that .net is required and you press the fix button and it will download and install .net automatically.

I put my monster hunter game folder into the c-drive. However when I select it on vortex “this directory doesn’t appear to contain the game. Usually you need to select the top level game directory containing the .exe file” But the .exe file is inside the folder itself

I have a issue. So i followed your tutorial but its complaining that my games are not in the same drive. My steam games are in tge steamapps folder located on tge directory of the drive and not the c drive folder in the prefix folder. How can i fix this without ruining my hundreds of gigabytes of games? The only games i wish to mod are red dead redemption, cyberpunk, fallout 4 (when miami or London is released) and gta5. The issue is all these games are located on the directory of the sd card and i don't want to move the folder since i feel that will break my games in terms of steam deck locating them

@@GrownUpGamingGUG ok I think I figured something out. This will be weird but maybe you should make a video and it since this workaround so far seems to be working. Step one: everything in this video. Step two: copy steamapps file location from your SD card directory, then go to the prefix drive_c/program Files (x86)/steam/ Step three: delete the steamapps folder in that directory, right click, create new, then select link to file. Place the link to the SD card steam apps directory it should autofill the name to steamapps if you do it correctly. Step four: open vortex and add your games then close vortex, next go back to the directory of your SD card and make a new folder, call it "Mod Staging Folder" in this folder make more folders for each game. In my case it's cyberpunk. So a new folder called "Cyberpunk" Step five: open vortex, go to setting, mods, then mod staging folder. Delete EVERYTHING in there and write this "D:\Mod Staging Folder\(name of the game folder you made)" in my case it's D:\Mod Staging Folder\Cyberpunk, then hit apply. All errors should disappear and it should treat your games and the Staging ground and your mod as a D drive. Now I don't know if this fixes everything but so far it's running, basic mods are running, and no errors and warnings. But since I haven't tested this deeply I am requesting you or someone to do this and poke holes into it and let's try to get this method foolproof if it isn't already

@@GrownUpGamingGUG side note certain games will not be automatically recognized in the folder so it will open a file locate window where you need to select the folder with the exe file in it. Make sure you find it in the c drive steamapps. And it will be oddly laggy navigating through the folder. So I'd recommend finding the location of tge exe via dolphin before you find it in the fake windows file locater thingy

Got as far as giving Lutris permission to access the SD card and retarted the deck as per your suggestion. But it now refuses to turn back on? The fans are going like crazy and I have haptics, but not even a background glow from the screen? I admittedly have Windows dual booted on my deck with Clover usually loading in and asking me which OS I want. But I didn't think anything I did in this tutorial would affect that. I'm leaving it docked and charging for a bit. Any suggestions?

I find that vortex can't manage the games if it's not on the same prefix folder as vortex. So move them over, do your modding and then move the game back to the original location to play them.

Im confused on the part of putting the game in the Vortex Mod Manager folder. When i click downloads i dont see the games. All my games that I bought on Steam Store are save on the SD card. What do i need to do at this step???
