Hi Steffi! I'll be moving into an apartment with big bedroom windows. For some reason I always have a hard time deciding on curtains. Do you have any input on that? Thank you!

Hi Steffi from Portland Oregon. I'm moving into a studio from 1-bedroom. Can you give me some decor tips if I do NOT want my bed to be so visible or a focal point as you usually show. Thank you!

Responded to this video on Instagram. I love it. I have been following some of your rules to decor. Using bits and pieces. Not done yet though. I'd say half way between shitty and pretty. Thanks so much Steffi!!

Oh and Thank you for bringing up the plants!!! I totally get where you are on that! Faux plants for me too!!!

I bought an electric fireplace with an adjustable flame and heater. BTW, you can have the fire on without heat. A friend a floor below me has a studio, loved it, but thought she didn't have the room. We went to Lowe's, l showed her the smaller ones. She loves it! And it sure adds to the cozy look!!

I'm in what I originally was told was a 500 sq ft studio (a laneway suite above a garage). It turned out to be closer to 400 sq ft, with a stairway that eats about another 65 or 70 sq ft and highly angled ceilings that further limit the use of the space. Realistically, I have closer to 300 *usable* sq ft that is full height. I originally shared this space with my then-teen daughter and, believe me, we *needed* a divider to create privacy (especially during COVID lockdowns when she was attending school via Zoom and I was working from home)! My preference is for a multipurpose freestanding unit, like an IKEA Kallax. I have both a 4x2 Kallax and a 5x1 Expedit (the discontinued predecessor to Kallax). They section off the area where the ceiling height abruptly drops from about 7 feet to about 3.5 feet, that was still quite workable as a sleeping/Zoom space for my teen and the shelves or cubbies hold vinyl records, books, and my planner supplies. Now that she's no longer here the area behind the Kallax is a space for my toy poodle and provides for storage and use of items that either don't fit in the main space or are less visually appealing. People generally have the (mistaken) impression that there is access to another room behind there, which is just fine with me. I have a loveseat/double bed sized sofabed in the main living space as well as an ottoman that opens for storage. The biggest advantage, in my opinion, to a sofa or daybed in a studio is that the space looks more like a permanent home and less like an upscale hotel suite. I love all types of very small space living tips, especially as my go-to shelter mag "small space" issues seem to be currently dealing with spaces in the 1,000 to 1,200 range (*not* a small space in my books, unless you have several young children there). It just seems that there isn't as much information out there on spaces in the 400-600 sq ft range as there used to be, while new builds are sizing down under 250 sq ft!

Hi, Steffi! Loved this video! I moved from an 850sqft one- bedroom to a 250-foot efficiency and used several ideas you suggested. Once you entered, the bed was immediately visible, so I used an open cube bookcase (with books and pretty things) to separate the sleeping area from the "office." A smaller bookcase served as my desk. Macrame hangings served as the headboard drawing the eye up. Under bed and under loveseat drawers were very useful for non-seasonal clothing. Triple dresser did triple duty as TV stand, clothing storage and snack pantry. I got lots of compliments! My windows were filled with plants.

I use the exposed clothes rack idea, and I display some of my best pieces as well as outfits which co-ordinate with the main colors in my room and also match the vibe which is soft, flowy, and feminine with a little bit of sparkle thrown in there - but also including different textures. And I do feel that it adds much more than clothes storage to the space. I really like it. 🙂 I am a senior too by the way so I think this idea can really work for anyone - no matter what your age or style.

I’m moving to a micro studio next month, and I’ve been playing dollhouse on paper with measurements on the floor space and furniture. My biggest project is working with a space that pretty much makes you stare at the kitchen from the bed and living space because the kitchen is longitudinal on the one side. I accepted I’m be looking at the kitchen. 😂 I think a kitchen island will help “divide” the visual space.
@joycerobinson8554 ай бұрын
Been there, done that. Try to find something pretty to put in the kitchen area.

I used to live in a studio and found the kitchen to be the most challenging space. It was so small you could only spin in it. Zero counter space. Just a thought 😊

Projectors - while on holiday in Japan most ryokans had ceiling mounted projectors with separate audio system. Our two teenagers were fascinated. Each one of us on our own tatami watching a movie/series together and then playing board games &/or chatting for a while before sleeping; magical. Thx Steffi!

Old antique sewing machines make great multi functional little tables/TV trays/nightstands. They usually have a top that flips open on hinges and they can be a great manageable DIY project.

Also, can we bring back secretary desks? They have drawer storage, a desk and frequently also a book shelf.

I have a 1 bed and love my wood color dividers. I use them because I don't want to come in and see my craft area or the kitchen. I will be going to a studio once my lease is up.😎

I’d love to see a video on how to make a functional work space for those who work from home, with different decor styles in a studio apartment. I’m considering a studio when my lease is up, but my only hesitation is how I’d make it still feel like my home, and not my job, when I’m not sitting at my desk to work.

Let's talk curtains and/or window treatments that can nod to a cozy appeal without closing them together. What type of fabric or treatment can create a warm surrounding.

Hello Steffi! Can we review ideas - and your comments regarding Curtains for the windows. Also: should they reflect the seasons??? Could I hang some pretty heavy weighted ones with antique Roses on them for in the Fall and Winter time????? Please do a video for us. I love curtains - I personally don't feel like a room is finished unless it has curtains. Thanks! M. from Upstate New York.

I think the privacy people want with dividers is so when they have someone over they can have their bed behind the divider. Not everyone wants their bed on display and they may have private personal items they don’t want to share with just anyone.

Exactly! I'm confused by her confusion about the dividers lol

Dividers if done properly, can make a small space feel cozy, and some people like the idea of wall separate the rooms.

This entire video is the look I'm slowly moving towards, so I loved absolutely everything. I actually have a condo, so I'm taking it room by room. But, my favorite thing is you admitting you use faux plants. I can't keep a plant alive to save my life, but I was feeling guilty about it. Now, I don't!

At around 7:00, i would have to totally disagree. I have a 20ish m² studio and really often friends coming over. I like my privacy, and want people staying off my bed and enjoying the corner bench/sofa with the chair that is way more than enough space for them to chose from. I don't want them to even consider the possiblity of sitting on my bed. One friend once did with their outside clothes and I almost gagged, never again. My tall closet that almost reaches the ceiling and makes it look like a wall (I painted it the same colour for the purpose) divides the room pretty well and hides the bedroom from the living room. + It always ircks me that people never include a closet or an alternative into their studio layouts, makes it look like people have no clothes to store, which is ridiculous 😅
