I have had a lot of questions on the Sonic Pad over the past 3 months and Creality has made some serious changes since my first video. These changes fixed most of the things I mentioned in the first video and are welcome improvements. In this video we cover those changes and what still needs work.

I got the sonic pad after watching your first video. Before it arrived, I had to replace my Ender 3 board and used an SKR mini E3 V3. I was concerned about getting the Pad to work with it, but after a little while of messing with it and troubleshooting, I now have it working. I really like the Sonic Pad. That and the Sprite Extruder Pro are the best upgrades I've done to my printer.

3 Months use of SonicPad on 3 Creality printers. One device powers an updated Ender 3V2 with Sprite Pro upgrade, Ender 3 S1 stock, another Pad controls an Ender 5 Plus with only Modification is Micro Swiss NG Extruder/Hotend. My experience: - Upgrading SonicPad firmware, forces you to do the entire installation all over again including Resonance, what a pain - Running multiple printers (like 2) where you have webcams- only supports one. I talked to Creality on this- future update potentially at end of Dec - so far no release - Constant issues disconnecting to MoonRaker even though I have a Mesh system in the same room and no issues with any other devices; I have given all data to Creality- no response, their support is basically horrible IMHO - After a few weeks of running multiple printers, one of the USB ports started arcing and took out the mainboard on Ender 3 V2, it went into thermal runaway. Both SonicPad and board had to be replaced- it is now back and running. Issue? No clue and Creality has not responded to me going on two weeks. - Setting up the printer.cfg took trial and error on the Ender V2 with supported Sprite Pro upgrade. I talked to Creality about this and they only suggested I change the rotations for the sprite extruder-however, it turned out to be much more. The mesh didn't work properly, bed limits and various other settings had to be changed- some by trial and error to get it working without errors- but I eventually did. Positives: Nice screen, nice concept, performance is good, but feels much like a 1.0 product to be honest. Due to reliability, I have one printer still running Marlin till I see that it is stable. The disconnects are a real problem and I have seen others with similar issues- I think code needs to be tweaked to be more resilient. That said, with all the time and effort invested in this project to get what maybe 160mm/sec (although I pushed the S1 over 250--but only practical for basic "box" like prints so far, I would have been far further ahead to just buy the Bambu P1P even though it is new and somewhat unproven at this point. Ultimately, I believe it is a personal decision, but to do advanced filaments, and X1C would be hard to beat. In the meantime, I will have to continue to put that WhamBam box around my S1 which is a great product, but another step... Hope this info helps someone. And,, thank you to Modbot for continuing to product great content.

Yeah scamality sucks and their pad sucks support even more suck. I listened to this looser on this channel and got that garbage of the pad. Should have gotten another rpi. I get errors mid print, and scamality tells me I need to check my printer and other hardware, and I'm trying to explain to them that when I use my set up with rpi ( same printer usb cable config file gcode file) rpi gives no errors and does not stop. Pad does.

Is there a reason why you chose the Sonic Pad over going with your own solution? I'm sure everyone has an old laptop or two collecting dust. I guess Android is also a possibility now? I'm not at all saying that you got what your deserved and I think it's bs that they're comfortable releasing beta versions. I guess I just want to know for myself if I'm missing out on anything by not getting the Sonic Pad, since it's priced very fairly and you do get a lot for your money.

With the option for multi printers, I’d like to see a copy mode or mirror mode so you can print multi prints of the same stl. A lot like a dual printer hazed printer.
@hassosigbjoernson5738
@hassosigbjoernson5738 2 жыл бұрын
Isn't it the same than starting the same stl on 2 machines separately?! For copy mode it should be exactly the same machines with the same filament and temperatures and when a clog happens on one of them: in copy mode both should stop, in managing 2 printers: only one should stop.

I only got a 3d printer 5 months back (ender s1 pro) as on day it had a great saving and had a bonus discount from a guy talking with online, about getting one. Saved so much - got the sonic pad that was on offer too. I used it stock for first few weeks and then with the sonic pad = WOW - what a difference the pad made. Now I've dipped my toe in - I really need to get the model creation side more developed. And when I have, then time to get a Bambu Lab A1 and see where that goes from there..

@@ModBotArmy it's a daily battle for me, even uploads to the pad happen at kB/s speeds when my network is definitely much more capable than that and the pad is in the room below my printer space. Very frustrating. Also, as has been noted on the Facebook group, have a timelapse camera connected increases likelihood of Webhooks request errors which will kill your print dead - not ideal!

I used the sonic pad on 2 s1 pros (until i sent one printer back) but i never really had a hiccup UNTIL for some reason Cura was writing gcode a little wonky. I ended up adding a g92 e0 in a different place on the start gcode to fix my problem. The prints would work fine for the first print, then when youd go to start a second print, itd retract all of my filament out of the top of the extruder while it was trying to do the first purge line. My work around for awhile was just restarting klipper between each print, but it was a headache to figure out for sure

Thanks for your updated review of the sonic pad, well done once again. One tutorial I would like to see is how to connect 4 printers to the sonic pad. I have been trying and my best to date is 3 because USB 2 is used to make the flash bin file for the printer and with a non Creality printer, BTT SKR Mini E3V3, USB 2 is needed to load the printer.cfg file. I have not figured out how to load the file and be connected to USB2 at the same time. Yep I know it's and IO error on my part but a little direction would be great if you have a moment. Keep up the great work. Doc'

I have contacted their support and have suggested the following... Perhaps if it comes from someone like you it would hold more weight.... 1. More permissions while in a SSH session. (We all are soooo waiting for this) 2. When doing probe offset during setup increments of .001 needs to be added. Available options should be .001, .005, .01, 1, 5 mm (.001 is available as a live adjustment while a print is running.) 3. A M600 Macro to do filament color changes, also let us be able to use sonic pad to purge more & resume print. 4. Placement of "OK" button during z-offset calibration should be moved further to the right. It is very easy to tap it by accident, then there is no way to cancel if it is accidentally tapped & probe calibration process has to be restarted. (I've hit it 3 times by accident allready) 5. After doing a resonance test on the X axis the Z axis needs to be raised atleast 20-50mm to allow more room to affix the accelerometer in the center of the bed as instructed. Or you could just set the Z axis height higher before doing a X axis resonance test. 6. Directories made from fluid/mainsail need to be accessible from the sonic pad itself!!! Sonic pad will not see any directories made from within fluidd or mainsail. There is no way to organize gcode files in folders and access them from the sonicpad itself. 7. Camera view on sonic pad should reflect options selected in fluidd/mainsail. I.E in fluidd I have my camera flipped horizontally and vertically. The view on the sonic pad shows my camera upside down. 8. More camera control. I have a logitech c920 it is capable of 30 fps at 1920x1080. I never get more than 10 fps on the stream using the adaptive setting in camera options in moonraker. If the webcam.txt file from octoprint is going to be utilized on your platform, it should reflect the settings there in the USB camera area. 9. Speed of ethernet port seems capped... Very slow upload speeds from cura or prusa slicer vs my rpi4 octoprint setup. Let the full gigabit bandwidth of the port be utilized. 10. I plan on upgrading v2's older DD extruder to the sprite pro, They should make a option during initial setup if you are using stock extruder or using a sprite (mainly looking for good offsets for probe) Just thought about this... 11. All future FW updates HAVE to retain current config file settings... I have atleast 20 different pressure advance settings for my various spools... I DO NOT want to have to print and re-measure everything....

Figured Id share my experience here: I've had mine for about 3 months too, but I'm still 50/50 on it. I'm impressed with the speeds and control I'm getting, but I strongly dislike the setup. I hit one snag thats really throwing me off and I'm curious if you had this issue too. Ran two printers, E3PV2 and CR-10V3. For some reason, the v3 would pause after each layer. Only happens when there is more than 1 printer operating on it. I also dislike how there's no option to flash the firmware back as "easily" as it is to put klipper on. Its not a bad toy, but it definitely feels like another case of customers supporting customers because "Creality". Thanks for the new info on the pad, here's hoping this thing improves into something even more impressive than it is now.

you can run klipper from a laptop and control as many printers as it can handle, which is what this unit does but at lower spec then the average laptop but more convenient, so maybe worth a try to see if your getting the same issues with a computer solution instead. I doubt its a hardware limitation of the unit though, maybe some confuration setting, or maybe an issue with the firmware flashed on the v3 EDIT : video on installing klipper onto laptop kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5OUdZdpp654aKs&ab_channel=ModBot

I have a cr-10 smart pro and i waited until they updated the sonic pad to work with my machine. I got the sonic pad last month and first problem was it had old firmware and my machine wasn't listed on the sonic pad and no options to update the sonic pad through wifi, i updated it manually with a usb stick. After the update there are 2 cr-10 smart pros listed so i opened my machine and found i have the 103 chip so i selected that in the sonic pad, but that's as far as i got with the sonic pad because after the flash the sonic pad just won't connect with my machine and its just sitting in the garage collecting dust

@freekshow0011 2 жыл бұрын
UPDATE: After watching this video this morning i started messing around with the sonic pad again and made sure my printer firmware is up to date and the sonic pad still wouldn't connect to the printer. It turns out that trying to flash the cr-10 smart pro with a usb drive as per the instructions does not work and what i did was after copying the bin file onto the usb drive from the sonic pad, i than put the usb drive into the computer and copied the bin file to a sd card and inserted the sd card into the printer, turned it on and the sonic pad connected instantly. Thats a pretty big screw up on creality's part, if its not in the manual or telling you on the sonic pad then they should at least put it on their website

1.They need to add an auto power off after print is done. 2. They need to add print resume after a power loss. 3. They need to add an actual shut printer off button, instead of the ridiculous control and led switch way of doing things. But, it is still a must have device.

After reading so many negative comments I felt like I needed to weigh in on the positive time I've had with mine. Combined with a MS NG Extruder I added over the holidays, my Ender 3 V2 is now running like a dream. I'm printing terrain for miniature war gaming and the quality at the speed I'm getting looks totally fine next to my resin minis. In fact I'm now thinking I want to sell my Anycubic Kobra Max to get a 5+ so I can run it off the pad as well. Having to setup printers again after the firmware update is a pain, but hopefully that can be avoided in the future? Or it becomes a case of, does this new update add anything worth going through the hassle?
@jasonbrunner3826

I suppose my comment didn't touch on the Sonic Pad as much as my overall situation, but the SP did what it's supposed to for me. It let me get Klipper running on my machine easily, let me have input shaping and pressure advance setup easily, lets me monitor and send prints remotely (wired networking since wi-fi in general just sucks for reliability). So yeah, a thumbs up from me, it could all be done manually with other alternatives and more time spent, but this made it simple for me.

One thing I can't seem to find ANYWHERE yet is a good tutorial on setting up the sonic pad with a PC app of some sort. I see a lot of people using it, but no instructables on how to get there for those not already immersed in that stuff. The last thread I saw in a forum about started talking about "all you have to do is open ports and forward and vpn and...and... " (lots of tech garble). Any chance you could do a walkthrough? Even in your video here... "Just type in the sonic pad's IP address then add some code..." Maybe dumb it down Barney style? Firstly, where do you find the pad's IP address in the first place?

Since the Dec update my cameras no longer show a picture, but says they are connected. My E3S1P now prints flawlessly until it throws an overstepping error, kills the print, and resets the Sonic Pad. I've tried everything I can think of and Creality wont respond. To top it off I went back to stock firmware but Creality only has the Laser/FDM firmware on their site requiring a display update and main. SIDI. When I power up the screen flashes the start screen with Laser and FDM buttons for about 10 milliseconds then goes back to Creality splash screen and completely frozen. My S1P is dead. SMH

shouldn't be an issue for the hot ends. esteps might want to setup in the browser ui but i've never dealt with that but i know the more advanced extruder options are in there that i don't remember seeing on the pad UI.

It's confusing at first coming from using Marlin, but actually very simple once you learn how it works. I use my computer logged into the Pad wirelessly to make all my changes. You simply open the printer.cfg file and you can quickly change the esteps, called rotation distance in klipper and you'll have to look up how to calculate it but the info is easy to come by. You can quickly edit probe offsets, bed size, bl-touch probe points etc. Max nozzle temp etc. When done simply hit save and reboot and you're done. No compiling of firmware and re installing.

Looks like an awesome product, and I was hoping to use it on my pro 2 (SKR board, now sprite hotend, replaced fans, etc etc) - however, I'll stay away from all Creality products on principle since their solution to an engineering mistake on part compatibility from their part is just to offer a $5-10-15-... coupon on their store. I enjoy tinkering, modding, learning and fixing things - which fits perfect in most of the Creality product stack... but their Customer Service is oblivious. I think it's great that they've adjusted the pad that you can add pretty much anything now!

For me this is still a Creality only device with way to many unnecessary problems seemingly created by Creality themselves. Way too much money for a FUNKY raspberry PI. These new control pads seem to create more uncertainty than anything else. You can only use Creality sensors that NO ONE has available and will only work with certain programs and software without hacking the device. NOT FOR ME! If I still have to go through all of that after buying this so called SONIC PAD for $150.00. I will just use my Raspberry PI and save the money for a monster printhead that will handle the the accelerated speeds and flow. Thanks for the knowledge. This is just a major waste of money unless you run a CREALITY print farm. I don't.

This is why Creality is such a hated on company. It boggles the mind that they would pour all those resources and hundreds of R&D hours, just to make sure to lock down as much of an open source firmware as possible. Who at Creality has so huge self-esteem issues to think that this is ok?

I would WARN EVERYONE WHO SEE"S THIS VIDEO: IF YOU HAVE UPGRADED YOU PRINTER TO AN SKR MINI E3V3 THE SONIC PAD DOES NOT SUPPORT THE STM32G SERIES CHIPS wasted 160 bucks or im left waiting for creality to push an update that includes this series chip. KLIPPER does support this MCU... what gives creality. For those who are in a similar boat, i will try flashing the SKR e3v3 with firmware i make on a PI and see if I can get the Sonic pad to see it by loading the CFG config manually after the MCU is flashed with klipper off the pi. Will update later tonight Update it will work a .bin file if you write it on a pi and push it via sd. The pad will not be able to write the .bin but will work once you flash the skr board using the pin for do you make config for the skr

It seems the sonic pad is great unless it's not. If you have a printer it claims to support, but actually doesn't, you'll be in for a nightmare. They obviously didn't test the sonic pad on all of the printers they claim it supports, like the cr-10 series. It will ignore autoleveling and scrape the heck out of your built plate. That was a first for me after printing for 3 years. Never had the issues running the original firmware. Even after doing a factory reset and carefully going through every step and tweaking with as much exactness as possible, it still trashes most prints. I have to set the z offset to a ridiculous 3.5 just to keep it from scraping, even immediately after going through the auto leveling and z procedures. They clearly didn't test this thing on all of the printers it "supports".
