FYI, you could use SHAPER_CALIBRATE instead of TEST_RESONANCES and just let Klipper try to find the optimal parameters for the input shaper for the requested axis!

You can add AXIS=x to select the axis. So SHAPER_CALIBRATE AXIS=x to calibrate the x-axis. Same for y.

On a side note, we (the Fluidd devs) have just realized that Creality has broken our license by changing Fluidd code (including the main logo AND THE COPYRIGHT!!) and not shared those changes... it's nice to see Fluidd in use in such a product, but it is a shame we were never contacted about this and they just decided to change the code and remove any reference to Fluidd or the team who actually maintains said code...

As stated by Nero, 3d printers have been capable for a long time limited only by the available software (and crap hotends). Self configurating firmware isn't something everyone wants to do. The sonic pad is just the first step in bringing Klipper to masses. The day is coming soon where 3d printers will come with Klipper pre installed. Fun times.

As a many years Linux and rPi user I found Klipper it quite easy to install on a standard rPi. However without the Linux/rPi experience Klipper is not the easiest thing to manage, simply too many details. This looks like a leap forward in users friendliness and if Creality manages it well could soon become the standard to operate Klipper. As to the hardware the price looks perfectly fair to me. In essence this is a low end tablet as far as screen, memory and processor go with Linux + Kipper instead of Android. Add the additional ports plus the included bits like the accelerometer and I don't think they can make it much cheaper (at least initially).

With 0 prior experience with Linux i managed to install xubuntu, klipper and mainsail on a laptop which is now happily controlling my cr-10 V2. Just takes some researching, all the info is readily available out there. But yes, sonic pad was announced just as i started looking into klipper and I was seriously contemplating holding up until I could get one.

just got mine installed on a ender 5 plus. After a very long day of installing it and getting it printing properly i gotta say im very happy with it. its printing far nicer quality and faster aswell. Loving all the new features my printer has with it. One of my favorite features is a small one but helps alot which is the wifi. Sometimes u gotta slice a few times to change settings and being able to send it wirelessly saves alot of time over all. The only complaint would be the installation process. The instructions arent very clear and i ended up bricking my machine for a frustrating 45 mins or so. But in the end it was all worth it.

So this effectively "breaks" the original display. Since the pad is a replacement screen, can you unplug the original one or is it required to boot up? I have been looking at Octoprint, but have been licking myself for never buying a Pi in the last several years when I had a chance. This seems to add most if not all Pi functions, in a stream lined interface for a descent price (considering the current Pi pricing and detailed setup to get it working). An out of the box functionality is awesome. I assume you writing the Klipper to the Ender main board effectively erases the original Marlin code or does removing the pad and restarting the printer bring back the Marlin interface and original display?

it makes it easier to bridge the gap and I respect that, but for those who already have klipper on this will be a step back... you can use the New BTT CB1 and RPB4 kit $40 + find an old tablet and place it near the printers to control the klipper. I do like their ADXL kit tho, I hate wiring that thing everytime I want to do input shaping.

So, the Sonic Pad, itself? Very slick. I like. However.... Bad on Creality for failing to keep the printer's onboard control panel operational. I would insist on keeping the onboard controls operational, in case the add-on Pad were to fail. Based on that, I'll be passing on the Sonic Pad. Raspberry Pi with a touch screen and OctoPi is the safer solution.

I really hope they do open it up and allow SSH access and/or flashing your own operating system. Because not only would have have to trust a device from Creality in your home network that, even if not malicious, might have very outdated security, but the device is probably also quite crippled compared to what could be unlocked with custom software.

I have a pile of Orange Pi Zero 2 boards and have used one of them for Octoprint with a 7" touchscreen enclosed in a case that attaches to my aluminium extrusions and can be moved to the correct angle for viewing, its a great device and has freed up one of my Raspberry Pi 4 boards for another project, I could buy 2.8 of these Orange Pi and screen setups for 1 of the Creality offerings, I realise these are ideal for novices who dont want to install software themselves but they are far too expensive IMO for what they are. I would want to see how this Creality device pans out, ie what faults and shortcomings it has because every Creality product always has faults which never get fixed by Creality instead choosing to let the community to repair their products, if this is the case then I would say people are better off with the Orange Pi setup from the start.

Andrew, good analysis. I found that a touchscreen is not a requirement or really needed for Klipper, I just use my web interface and an old LCD display to observe temps. I have my concerns about Creality, there has been a lot of discussion about their "borrowing" ideas from others. I can see this being useful for Creality owners, but can't see anyone else using this. I think they do need to release their software for examination and modifications by the users.

I disagree with the premise of the sonic pad. The whole point of installing Klipper is to give yourself more options for tuning and firmware configuration. seems like with the sonic pad you get an upgrade path, but ultimately it's a dead-end.

I'm getting back into the hobby after a few years' hiatus. I've modded plenty of devices both software and hardware so I'm not worried about any of that but have been having trouble finding information (likely due to the terrible naming scheme Creality uses which confuses Google). Now, onto my question... I just bought an Ender 3 S1, Sonic Pad, and an all metal hot end upgrade kit. *Would I be able to flash the Ender 3 S1 Pro firmware with this setup?* I want to be able to print at 300° so I can use more professionally graded filaments like Nylon Carbon Fiber, etc. I ended up getting insanely good deals on all of this equipment, which is why I didn't buy the Pro version but essentially just upgraded my standard S1 to an S1 Pro. Added 7 default models and the firmware update process for some models via USB cable, and improved the model configuration process; 2. Add custom model compilation function; 3. Improve the vibration compensation control function; 4. Improve the Z-axis calibration function; 5. Fix some known bugs; 6. Support Mainsail LAN control background; 7. Allow users access to the SSH background. Could you please revisit with this latest firmware and make a video about it? Have a feeling I am going to have to pull the trigger on this based upon your findings.

I wish they would have made it work with a hub, to control more printer, in a farm setup.

I have been using ender 3 pro for the last few months (my first printer) i have done some upgrades so far. My bigger complaint with this printer so far ins the firmware. Is this a viable solution for my problems?

What about pressure advance? My understanding is that this will not work because creality 32 bit silent boards are hard wired with the TMC drivers in standalone mode and no UART. Basically this is an unfinished product and is a nice idea if they could actually utilize input shaping properly as well as finally let users take advantage of pressure advance.
@ModBotArmy
@ModBotArmy 2 жыл бұрын
Is this verified? This is the first time I am hearing that UART is required for pressure advance. Do you have a source?
@dmax9324
@dmax9324 2 жыл бұрын
@@ModBotArmy I'm not sure how to verify it other than that I spent many hours trying to research and find out myself. From what I could tell, Creality uses TMC2209 for their boards, but they are soldered onto the boards as standalone drivers and not enabled for firmware control. So if that is the case, then this additional hardware will not be able to make a difference in firmware control of the stepper drivers. There were several reddit spots that talked about modding creality boards via soldering, but I could not find anything specific to the S1 or S1 Pro (which I have). For pressure advance, you do need firmware control over the drivers. That's why SKR Mini E3 V3 comes standard in that configuration. So I bought one of those boards, a raspberry pi, and pressure advance works. I had contacted creality if I could buy another backup S1 Pro motherboard and they said no. I didn't want to modify the board nor try pressure advance with the stock board to confirm. It ended up being a complete mess to find out a simple thing like this ...

I should mention that it may work, but I saw several people mentioning that some had printing artifacts, failures mid print, errors, etc. It looked like the only reliable way was to have TMC2209s in UART mode and allow for controlling stealthchop vs spread cycle and not risking it with a stock creality board over time. So it may work, but I'm not sure how well or if it is not very stable, etc. I could not find a satisfactory consensus online. Klippers documentation says various features don't work if not in UART mode, but again, it wasn't totally clear to me if that included pressure advance

I have one ordered and thought I understood that you could hook up to 4 printers to this. So I have 4 printers and thought this would run all 4. Am I understanding that I need 4 sonic pads? If so, I may cancel this order. I already run them on Repertier and a Raspberry Pi. But I have been considering moving into Klipper. Please advise.

The Creality site mentions running up to 4, so maybe the units being shipped now have it and his review unit didn’t have the update?

Does this have the original ender 3 which had sd card on bottom and a v1 has it up top. And my original ender 3 has a bltouch so what firmware it has.

Og Ender 3 was 8 bit so it wouldn’t be able to be flashed over sd card. They didn’t have boot loaders so the process would be a bit more involved.

If they add multiple printers this could be a great value. If you have say, 4 credulity printers and want to klipperize them quickly and easily. As is, it's a tough sell. Klipper is great, but an mks pi is $40, and while a touchscreen is nice it's by design not needed for klipper.

No E3 S1+, that seems odd with the other S1's on there by default. Hopefully they have it setup where you can just connect LAN and do an update before you start and add the whole database of C3D printers, no way am i paying this much and setting it up manually, i would just get a pi for that.
