The Ford mod engine is a very cool platform for a hot rod. You don't see them enough. The mod engine looks good when it's stripped down and cleaned up. My departed mother had a 02 Crown Vic LX with the 4.6. I drove my mom to many appointments in that car. That Vic would fly if you wanted it to. That was a great car. Y'all keep up the good work.

Not a Ford Fan by any stretch but the Mods are pretty cool Engines. You don't see them that often for the same reasons the SBC became the "go to" Engine. Price. Hell, a BUICK 350 will make more power than a SBC, and it's a lighter engine, if they're built the same but the Buick will cost more to build. Even a Hemi is cheaper to build than a Mod. now.

I'm so mad the Towncar didn't get the DOHC, some of em cost almost 60k original price, would have been nice to have the Teksids 280 bhp in the towny....Or even a Sohc version of it to save weight. I have a '99 Towny and I'm swapping the engine for a much newer PI 4.6 and upgrading the exhaust...hoping for around 260hp with that alone..then getting closer to 300 with other bolt on stuff and a tune..the stock exhaust system is super restrictive.

Bet that engine builder was pretty pissed when Ford rolled out the Coyote V8. They were 415 hp initially, and I think they're up to 450- 460 hp bone stock. The motor these guys just built put out 491hp and I'm sure that's well over $10k in parts.

Doubtful. The Coyote is still a Mod. so my guess is they just carried over the knowledge. Think Ken Duttweiler lost any sleep worrying about the LS when it replaced the SBC? Or the Mod Motors replaced the SBF?
@davidgonzalez4665
@davidgonzalez4665 4 жыл бұрын
@@SGTJDerekabsolutely, the Coyote is an evolution of the same 4-valve Mod Motor that's been around since '93 when the Mk. VIII got it first before the '96 cobra. Cylinder spacing is about the same, Mod motors dont have alot of room for cubes but the head design is much improved. 500 at the flywheel with the gen 3 coyote is very doable, with typical bolt-ons.

Fun fact, not all engines sit in there perfectly level or symmetrically. I learned real quickly in my 78 camaro engine swap the engine tiltes back and is offset towards the passenger side. I was told GM did this to both give the steering colum more clearance and, in the event of a head on collision it pushes the engine down and away from the driver.

@@davidgonzalez4665 I saw it, it looks good however it's not for me. The D.O.H.C is a much more efficient engine imo they just need to make it a bit bigger, 6-7 litres with the coyote technology and high compression. They are more than able to make it happen but have been lazy after the 5.8L shelby in 2014. The space is there, in the engine bay of the mustang waiting for it. I want modular, NO pushrod nor iron block for me in 2020 like they do with the hellcats, nope. All aluminum for me, or I won't drop the hay. For older cars, i agree with you, whatever the hotrodders like and we know it's more simple and still makes big power and sounds amazing.

Its 281 cubic inch motor @ almost 500 n/a horsepower! Hemi, and chevy 5.7s or 6.2 aren't doing that. Throw a blower on it and see 700hp to the wheels.
