For anyone watching -- sanding a body with binding usually leads to the binding breaking and then you have a real headache.

You could have tried the beautiful shellac varnish. Dries very fast and leaves very cool vintage lustre. No spraying involved, just french-polishing. Also, has a good effect on the sound.

Maybe after you're finished you could potentially do a timelapse with narration of each step with things like sandpaper grit and all the goodies!? Would be so cool because this is something ive been wanting to do for aaaages but i'm very time poor but any help to shorten the process i would be exceptionally appreciative. Looks fantastic already by the way! 😉😎

@@MilianMalivukMusic The binding is a big deal because some people prefer to do things right. I am a professional refinisher. I cringed so hard when I saw you use crap out of a spray can. The crater in the black finish could have been fixed and never know it was there. Back to the binding..... You did not use a flex agent or an adhesion promoter to make it bond to that plastic binding. That will be the first place the finish develops a problem. It will probably chip easily on the binding. I guess it's a guitar you don't care about. BUt why do all that hard work and do it the wrong way? Stick to playing guitars. You just made a decent cheap guitar a junk guitar. ... Give it time... you'll see.....

#countryboycansurvive Ah, I love the professionals stating they're professionals. Good for you, I hope it makes you feel better. Did you know I'm a professional amateur? This was my first project of this kind and the damage could have been repaired better, absolutely correct. I'm in touch with the current owner and so far I didn't hear any complaints of paint chipping. Feel free to check out my own guitar builds, which are not being spray finished, so no need to cringe there.

@@MilianMalivukMusic Amatures like you bring me over priced business. Because it always cost more to fix other peoples screw up. I know... Maaaan, im working on an Ibanez to give it a earthy natural look to match my current album studio I cant believe how long it took to sand down the headstock, almost 2h with a orbital sander and 60 grits disk.... For whatever reason the body took like half that time, i guess Ibanez put way more sealer on the headstock

Can I change a guitar’s finish from gloss to satin with only using sandpaper?
@MilianMalivukMusic6 жыл бұрын
Technically yes, but then I guess you have to do wet sanding with very fine paper (1000 grit upwards)
@ericwilliams73745 жыл бұрын
Just a recommendation for all, that is if any even reads this comment........ When finishing a guitar ( or a kit guitar, whichever) especially if you are painting it, to make sure that you don't mix products that can't me mixed. What I mean by that is, I was building a kit guitar, and I wanted a "burst finish". Light wood stain in the middle, and satin black edges. Well, I found out the hard way, that the stain I used, didn't like the enamel paint I was using. Also, I moved the body of the guitar too quickly, from inside, to outside, to back inside again. The temperature changes didn't help matters either, made things even worse!! The paint "crazed" on me. "Crazing" is a term painter use to describe when you have painted something, and you get unwanted "bubbly cracks" in the paint. So, what I had to do, was start all over again, after sanding off all the hard work I had just put into the finish!!!! So, what I learned from this whole experience is, make sure your finishing products are "compatible" and make sure to paint out side on a nice warm sunny day ( make sure to have had the body, nor what ever you are painting out side for at least an hour or so, and then let the paint dry for another hour before going back into an air conditioned house or apartment!!!).....

Dude that's not how you paint something! You are way to close and your paint layers are way to thick. At least watch a video on how to do it. Also don't do this outside. Way too much dust! Go into an empty room and make the room really wet so the dust is out of the air. Then you can start.
