Model 1 Sega CD Fix - Broken Tray Won't Eject

This is a pretty simple Model 1 Sega CD Fix showing how to fix a broken tray that won't eject.
I just got a Model 1 Sega CD in the mail and it was having a problem with ejecting the disc. So I opened it up and found the problem and fixed it pretty easily. Hopefully this will help some of you out or at least give you an idea of what the Sega CD is like. Enjoy.

I also noticed that sometimes you'd have to tilt the model 1 to at least a 45 degree angle for it to stay in and read the disc. Let me know if you fix it.

Dude it's so weird. I'm having this same issue with my front loading Sega CD. I'll have to give this a try. Your vids are very helpful man. Weird though that my Saturn was having issues and you addressed that problem as well. Thanks. 5/5

@SkoogGaming No, mine does not make any loud noises. My guess would be that your disk drive is having a little trouble reading your CD's. Hopefully it's just misaligned and not breaking.

I have never run into this problem but I've only ever had one model 2 Sega CD. My guess would be that the disc is being pushed too close to the laser. I would check to make sure that the spindle that spins the cd is not lowered for any reason and also check to make sure that the circular part attached to the CD lid is very loose and is able to move around. If that has gotten stuck or stiff it may be pushing the disc down into the laser.

That's a helpful tip! Stupid motorized cd trays, I have the model 2 Sega CD so while I think I like the model one's looks better, the model 2 is more reliable with less moving parts. I wonder if your fix would apply to any other kinds of disc trays (DVD players, PS2) if they're all built similarly?

I would guess that the wheels and bands that run the cd tray could be fixed easily, but I doubt that piece would be in other systems. I really don't even have any idea how it could have been dislodged. The guy I bought it from may have opened it up trying to fix something and pulled it out or possibly it just jammed and popped it out. But either way, other than collectors sake, I'd go with the Sega CD top loader.

When I turn my Sega CD model 1 on the access light continually blinks. Drive opens fine and closes fine with a CD. Access light keeps blinking. When its closed up it asks me to hit reset to put a CD in even thought there is one in there. Any advice?

did anything sound like it wanted to move. i have a weird one right now that works but the cd part does nothing. i have manually moved the tray out and back in and it dont feel like anything is stoping it. mine is the pal uk version and dont have the big cog, it has a white thing in the bottom you can use a flat head screwdriver in

my sega CD has the same problem but the problem was that i cept pushing the tray back in becuase it will open by it self and i didnt want that so i cept pushing it back in and now it wont come out i hear the sega cd make noises the eject noise that it want to come out but its not pushing it i even took it apart and notice that teh card is not straight its like way down not straight idk ill look at this video if not what im looking ill post a video responce

I wonder if I'd be able to use the guts of a busted 1st gen SEGA CD to make a tray-loading-drive for a Dreamcast mod? Now that you cracked open a 1st gen CD, it looks like this might be possible, and gives me ideas...

OK I FOUND PROBLEM my friend bryan will try to fix it but what i say is that what hold that things thats under teh CD tray this big thing idk what it is called that.........OK the one has that grip that holds your cd in the middle in place and that black wheel with teeth underthat is what makes this nob turn when it turns the nob goes up with the grip thing but that problem ITS BROKEN its like glue but no its one of those rotten plastics UGH HELP
