Changed out the gas struts in the frunk to some stronger ones to make the frunk open up all the way by itself. For less then $20 on amazon you can easily replace them and make yours do the same.
People are buying these up fast and Amazon keeps going out of stock. All these struts should be the right about the same length. The stock ones are 15 inches

Ordered the replacement struts for the frunk last night (Thurs.) received them this morning (Fri.) before 9:00AM. After I unpacked them and reviewed your video I think it tool about 5 mins. to install both. Works great! My brother got all the DYI genes in our family so believe me when I say, "If I can do this anyone can". Thanks so much for the video and your research. When the trunk parts come I will let you know how I make out. Thanks again!

I did mine!!! Install took under 3 minutes and that was with my 22 month old “helping”. Just used a small flathead screwdriver to pry that plastic piece as Brian showed in the video. WORKS LIKE A CHARM!!!!! SO AWESOME! Thanks Brian and love your videos. I’ve already ordered the struts and spring for the Trunk and will do that one next. :)

Wow, thanks so much Brian! My hubby and I just installed these on our (my) Model 3. At first, we thought it was weird that the frunk lid sprang up so forcefully and reverberated when it got to the top. Seemed like way too much force, and worried us that it'd damage the aluminum hood. But then I looked at your video again and realized we had installed them upside down! Whoops! I just finished popping them out and turning them around all by myself (yes, it's that easy), and it now works perfectly! Thanks SO much for this fantastic mod!!! 😃

I just spoke to strongarm. Amazon has a long lead time to get it. Strongarm sells the exact same product through other retailers some with a different brand name. You can get it through amazon sooner as part 6304. The pr at the end is only the 2 pack deal. At autozone it is sold under the name of Mightylift part number e95327, At napa it is under the name Turbo Lift part 8196271, and at Advance auto it is under the same name Strongarm part e6304.

Hello Ari, thanks for all the detailed information. I found it on Autozone but there I'm missing specs. I'm from Germany and shipping and customs will cost a fortune. Therefore I'd need to find a strap here in GER which might fit. Is there any information on the power lift in newtonmeter or anything similiar I can work with? Jeep Cherokee has so many models and there are so rare back here, so without any specifics on the car (model year etc) it won't help either. :(

Just don't do what i did and install them the wrong side up. (Hence, my name) a. The hood wobbled like crazy and I'm sure i bent it on the right side. b. Two struts' knobs broke (One came loose and another's "knob handle" broke off completely.) c. I lost $20.47. d. I scratched my car with the screwdriver because the pressure on the knobs were amplified. In short, INSTALL GAS CHAMBER UP! Extra notes: It was late at night and I just wanted to get over it, I also highly anticipated this since this video was released. I also had ordered the Century Springs, not going to return a $6 item to newegg. I had the idea of taking the strut knobs off the factory struts, but then I decided that I should probably not risk climbing down lower in the intelligence ladder. I know, I'm stupid just want to let people know to be careful, regardless of the same mistake. It was my stupid mistake, this is still a cool idea. Mine was made in Turkey if anyone was wondering... I read reviews that the USA versions had better luck and integrity.

Great video. I ordered the Frunk struts and installed them as directed in the Frunk installation video. However every other time, I open it, it sometimes take 10 seconds to open fully. It opens like it did in the old days, just a few inches, while slowly continues to open another inch before it finally opens all the way up fast. When I try again shorty after, it opens up perfectly and fast. The slow part typical happens if I havent used the frunk for a few days. Any suggestions on how to make it open fully every time? Do the struts need oil or something?

i1Tesla, is there anything special about the StrongArm part you link to in this comment vs. the Beneges part you originally linked to or the BOXI part I reference in another comment? Great mod. Ordered mine and installed in 10 mins. However, they don't open the frunk first time, every time. It only opens all the way up once every 3 or 4 times. The hood pops every time and if I just touch the hood it lifts right up. And then it will open right up the next 5 times in a row but if I leave it for a couple of hours - again, frunk pops but does not lift all the way up. I have changed to the lighter hood spring as well. Maybe I have a defective strut? Any ideas on how to fix?

Just got the struts you listed in the description and installed them on my Model 3 Performance. When it gets to the last bit, where the hood shakes back and forth a little, the sockets move left and right and cause a clunk on the metal. I don't hear this happening on yours. I definitely popped the sockets in correctly. Any idea?

I'm curious: Without the strut modification, if you popped the latch (and the hood stays low, but just the catch released) would you normally just lift the hood, or like traditional cars is there a secondary latch that you have to put your fingers between and slide so it releases the secondary latch? I'm curious because in most cars, the secondary latch catch is there to prevent the hood from popping open in a collision or an accidental pull of the latch release mechanism in the passenger compartment? I wonder if/how Tesla can get around the need for this secondary mechanism

I tried this with two different struts, one set from Amazon and one set that exactly matched yours. The problem is my hood went from perfectly smooth match to a slight bow raising the edge a bit about a third of the way down from windshield. I think it puts too much pressure on the hood in my case. Trunk ones worked well once I was able to get the springs which was difficult. Thanks for the work. Maybe you can suggest a set that doesn't put quite as much force on the hood.

The hood floats now rather than resting in the two rubber stoppers on the corners. This is why it’s probably flush now than before. You you should probably turn the stoppers so they make contact to the point of making the hood flush on its own for those who may want to make it flush without the new struts. Thanks for these videos.

This is a great idea! Also I am thinking how about reducing the spring pressure for closure clasp? While closing the frunk we have to apply too much pressure which causing bending and we have to be careful and use two hands. Using 2 hands is really inconvenient. I am thinking, why can't we reduce the spring tension for that clasp making it easy to close. I am not see any point having so much tension for that clasp. Any plans to try that out and let us know how it works out?

Yes, we can close it, but at the risk of bending it if we do not do it in right place and careful. I think reducing clasp spring load allow us to drop it from 6 inches and close automatically or close it with very little pressure.

Went with eBay brand struts!! Big mistake!! They work and the hood pops up automatically without problem. However, the tension is 104.xx lbs which 2.xx lbs more than Strongarm 6304 and that led to the hood and the fenders not flat if you look side way. Go with what i1 recommended if planning to do this mod. I believe 100 - 102 lbs will be the best fit.

This is what it says... note how many links there are: Video Description via i1Tesla on KZbin: "Model 3 Automatic Frunk #Tesla Poppin Frunks Changed out the gas struts in the frunk to some stronger ones to make the frunk open up all the way by itself. For less than $20 on Amazon, you can easily replace them and make yours do the same. People are buying these up fast and Amazon keeps going out of stock. All these struts should be the right about the same length. The stock ones are 15 inches and the ones I installed are 14.5. Yes when the video went wild everyone was buying up all the stock on Amazon. So I was trying to find other ones that would work. Some people got the wrong ones so I just added the ones I have on my car in the description

Brian I got mine using the link provided. I got the ones that have extended length as 12 inches and it does not fit. Has some thing changed? Appreciate if you can can provide update. I am returning the ones I got.

Great work. Please could you give the link to the strut you used. Too many strut options. Thanks

Because the stock hood is made from very thin light weight aluminum with very little bracing, i feel like it's bending the hood a little when a stronger strut is installed. Maybe something a little stronger than stock is fine, but nothing too strong.

I'm confused by the installation. In the video it shows the pressurized part on the hood side but from factory its on the body side. Are there any adverse effects on the orientation of the strut?

It wont make a difference. Mine where put on the same way I too them off

How do you choose a proper strut replacement ? I want it in my MS but have no idea how I should choose those struts... is it by weight or height ... don't know :(

Why is it that the links seem to be missing from your videos? Trunk & Frunk don't have Amazon links for struts on either video.

Quick question, when I typed my car name at the top of the page your provided, Amazon said it won't fit my 2018 Model 3. Why is that?
