I drove a Model 3 for about 2 years and recently traded it for a Model Y that qualified for the $4k tax credit. I have to say that the Model Y does have a tooooon more space and it doesn’t feel as cramped. Even passengers often talk about how much more space there is in the Y compared to my old 3. Had a 2022 Chevy Bolt EV. Traded it in on a 2024 Model Y SR RWD. Traded that in on a 2024 Model 3 LR RWD almost 4 months ago. Very pleased with the 3. Best car I've ever owned. Got a touch over 5 mi/kWh on a non-stop 330 mile round trip earlier this week (Brunswick, GA Supercharger to Ocala, FL, and back to the Brunswick Superchargers.). Had 40 miles indicated remaining range at the end of the round trip. No charging stops needed. Supercharged in 28 minutes to go from 11% to 80% at the end of the trip. Love the comfort, performance, and quality of the 3. I think the Juniper Y will be amazing given the improvements the Highland 3 got.

I own both a model three and model Y… Personally, I much prefer the driving position/visibility/storage space of the model Y. The model three is like driving a supersonic blow dart. That is truly an amazing car with an awesome race car like driving feel, but for passengerspace and storage space, the model Y is just better. We have four children, two dogs, and I drive Uber as often as I get the chance and that makes the backseat comfort as well as storage space top priority.

Agree 100%: great vehicle, great price, unbeatable. Things I miss most: 1) 40:20:40 rear bench split, that would allow to transport skis at the center, and still have 4 full seats 2) hatchback. Although trunk is very large for the size of the car, the access to it is bad. But you can't have everything I guess.
@jamespaul2587Ай бұрын
Agreed, a hatchback would have been a much more practical design choice.
@OneThousand98Ай бұрын
I got the Y and it was an easy decision to make. The higher driving position means you see more of the road, and on longer journeys my legs are in a more natural position. I did try the 3 but it’s just too low, as a slightly older guy my back and knees aren’t what they were, and it hurts a little to get in and out of. I love looking down on 3 drivers from my nice high perch. The other benefits are the better glass roof as standard, which looks incredible in the back seat, and of course the self opening hatchback which is a tremendous party trick but ultimately way more practical than a saloon style trunk. Sorry guy, you clearly love your 3 but being cramped and folded into that form factor for an extra couple of miles range? Nah.

The Model 3 is not ergonomic at all, to the point where it becomes a legitimate hazard. It really needs a head-up display (perhaps instead the unnecessary display for the rear seats?). Additionally, the lack of functioning visual parking sensors and the decision to forgo accurate ultrasonic parking sensors (on a car costing $50,000!) significantly detracts from its value. Despite its performance and design quality, these issues make the car a less attractive deal. The absence of Android Auto is also disappointing; Tesla’s reduced version of Google Maps is simply not as good as the original
@ChicagoBob123Ай бұрын
I know you don't want to hear this but when you get old you need the vehicle that's taller to take stress off your knees. I have the 23lfp model 3. Comfortable and good enough except, can't put bikes in the back, to low to the ground and hard to get in and out of.
@kestrelglassingsystems6704Ай бұрын
I agree with you 100% on the Model 3 and disagree with you completely on the truck. I know you’re a Telo guy, but that truck isn’t going to work for everyone. Having been a full size truck user for two decades, I can tell you that for the majority of use cases the CT is an extremely competitive replacement for the F-150 or equivalent. Which was the target. Under normal driving I can go 250-300 miles on the energy equivalent of 4 gallons of gas. My last F150 ecoboost took 20 gallons on the exact same tires to go that far. The only place the CT gets beat is the ease of refueling on long range towing. Outside of that its a far superior experience. Especially now with increased charging speeds. I really don’t notice a big difference road tripping with the CT vs the experience I had with my model 3, other than added comfort and room. I hope there are a ton of folks lining up to buy a Telo when the time comes, but it isn’t going to work for folks like me.

Worst thing about the car is that I had to buy all season tires for the winter. Range is fine as I get home with about 17-23% (depending only on how aggressive I drive lol) vs 22-29% during warmer weather/traffic. Did have to take it for service since the splitter was a bit unhinged in the front, the back speaker is loose and, as an audio enthusiast I could hear the rattle/distortion, and the interior led light had a tiny hair crack in it - all free and they gave me a MY for the weekend so who cares lol. Hey Ho! This writer agrees with Drew in his discourse. He went from a 2019 Kona BEV to a 2020 "03" dual motor, long range EV. Drew overlooked a problem with the '03;. One he would never know of. Its a fine car to get in and out of IF you are young and supple. IF you are 'old, beaten thru, over the hill and down the other side, type of driver--which is the writer--then its a faff to get in and out of. Its low and deep and made for the young. Tesla knew of the problem and added, comfort mode. It does help--but no machine can replace your long lost youth!

Ok so i used to drive a volt. Efficient sensible, and i said my next car would be a model 3. Well, that didnt happen. I went from a 2012 volt, to a 2012 audi a5 coupe, with a stickshift. And i have an hour long commute with traffic. From a purely "best tool for this job", if i found a tesla in my price range ($7000), and insurance wouldn't be through the roof, it would have been perfect from a purely commuter car standpoint. However, i don't use my car just for commuting. I enjoy driving, i like feeling engaged while im driving. So although it seems "perfect", ive seen things that seems perfect like smartphones vs computers, its better for most tasks, but its just not enjoyable in the way i like. Ok, to put it another way, an ev is a math calculator that you put in the numbers, sputs out the right answer without any knowledge involved. A manual transmission is giving you the formula, and telling you to do it yourself. For people who like to feel like they're DOING something, even if that requires more effort, if its something you're doing every day and would be sitting doing nothing, why not give you something to keep you occupied and entertained while that thing being directly connected to the vehicle you're driving? This is just me though. I know many people aren't like this and that's ok too.
@Levi-my5mz12 күн бұрын
I feel that owning an EV without a dedicated place to charge it overnight is a significant drawback. Charging times are still relatively long, taking 20-30 minutes, whereas a hybrid offers similar EV characteristics but only takes about 3 minutes to refuel. If I owned a house, I would definitely consider a used Model 3. I don't see how mass EV adoption can work with those people who live in apartments.

I traded my 2024 model 3 for a Lexus es300h sports luxury, in Australia the Lexus is in the same price range as the Tesla so I expected the same quality, but after being told by 3 Tesla dealers “it’s way better than old model 3’s, that’s normal” (referring to an issue I had where the dash would creek, then it would get fixed and come back within a week) Honestly my previous car was a 2012 Camry and that even with 250k on the odometer had 0 rattles and squeaks and the materials felt better built than the Tesla, and this is a car that cost less than 15 grand 12 years ago. Then the Lexus oh my days is it ever soooooooo much better, makes the similar price model 3 look like a joke. The Lexus is - quieter - smoother - more comfortable seats - more comfortable suspension (to the point where many reviewers said unless you’re spending Mercedes s class money, it’s the best you can get) - safer (look at the FARS on the NHTSA website, per billion miles driven less than half the fatalities occur in a Lexus compared to a tesla) - a more opulent interior (I always thought the ES had a terrible interior until I rented one for a weekend trip and was like “I get it now”) So yes it’s a hybrid and yes I have to fill it up manually and yes I have to service it, but it’s still a wayyyyyyyyyyy better overall car than the model 3
