This is one of those occasions when I wish KZbin allowed me to give two thumbs up, rather than just one. Maybe I'll give it three, just so the icon stays black. What a fun video!

What a great collection to visit! I was 8 years old in 1963 and on a family vacation in our 63 Pontiac Catalina somewhere on Rt 66 going to Missouri when we stopped at a gas station a Chrysler turbine drove in. I will always remember seeing that car and the amount of attention that it created. I have always loved those cars and have not seen one since. I guess it’s time to visit the Gilmore! Thanks Paul for a great video…

One of the great memories I have with my dad was going to the local shopping center and seeing the demonstration pitch for the turbine car. The thing that really surprised me was when the guy balanced a nickel on edge on top of the air cleaner with if running. There was a turbine car at Harrah's museum in Reno. The engine was just a shell but there was a complete engine on display also. The guy that bought the engine lived in L.A. and was going to put it in a 66 Charger. He said that the Charger was intended to be the production turbine car.

Hi, Guy, I saw the Chrysler Turbin in Sioux Falls South Dakota in 1963 at the Plymouth dealership. It was a thrill to sit in the drivers seat and to hear and see the engine run & stand about a foot away from the exhaust when it was running, the whine of the engine was so sweet.

The Gilmore museum is an absolute jewel. It is an "immersive experience ".the Henry Ford Museum is a historic place that has a lot of things on display that are very impressive. But, it has become a very heavily curated experience from a cultural perspective. The HF has been converted into a child's attraction in many ways. I could level some other criticism of what the Henry Ford Museum has changed into. However, the Gilmore museum has NOT been taken over by eggheads. The makes and era's of vehicle's are wonderfully displayed and the layout of the property is impressive. I believe that it has exceeded the HF in the way that they present how the automobile fit into the American society.

"Yea, so the engine ran 5 seconds and died a few times. Now it won't start at all. I've checked everything I can think of; I'm thinking maybe timing gear broke? I broke a valve? What do you think?" The Gilmore has been on my list to visit since opening... current culture "villainizes" the internal combustion engine, but I say it was one of mankind's ( yep, used the word) greatest engineering accomplishments.. The Gilmore celebrates cars, which transformed transportation ( and the world) forever. The electric push is interesting to see, but really brings out the most bizarre behavior in some. We have a ways to go, but I will ALWAYS respect the engineering and ingenuity of the designers and builders of past times who used slide rules, paper and pencils. Thank you!

I once told a little girl that the Model A was the first "smart car". Her mom who was driving the Prius they were in looked pretty put out at what I was driving. @@ModelA Stephen Ambrose, the renowned author who documented the greatest generation says that the American boys of the 1940’s grew up fixing, tuning, learning about their family cars, the Model T, Model A , etc. of the pre war era. It was common sense and "know-how" that these boys carried into the war. These same kids were able to fix, re-engineer, rig and keep all the engines running during the Second World war, keeping the Allied war machine moving and outpacing the Germans. European lads of the era were no where near as accustomed to being mechanically inclined. Thus, these cars played a big part in saving the free world.

I can't understand why Thomas Edison would have a beautiful Model-A Two-Door altered into a Phaeton. It seems to me back in the day people wouldn't want open cars because many had grown up with open buggies so choosing an enclosed car would be the first choice. And I understand that the Model-A Two-Door was the biggest seller. I know that people did opt to buy Phaetons, perhaps not intending to use the car during winter or in a severe means of saving money, either I doubt would apply to Edison. I'm certain were I around back when I'd have bought an enclosed Model-T as soon as Ford had released that type.

Hi Paul, I'm guessing that you would like to own a Chrysler Turbine car! I've seen 3. The Portland Roadster Show in Portland, Oregon in 1963 was the first time. Standing in my front yard in Hood River, Oregon watching one drive by. And the Harris museum in Sparks, Nevada. I get goosebumps just thinking about those cars.

Paul, don't forget to mention the turbo car. haha Anyhow, the government told Chrysler to destroy all of these cars. Something tells me it wasn't the reason they gave though. I'm tinking all the other co's complained that this car could affect the whole industry. And yes, I hear that Jay Leno has one. haha Good video Paul.

О! Именно об этом самолёте я говорил тебе прежде, Пол. И сейчас их много летает. Это Питенпол Эйр Кэмпер. Правда он должен быть двухместный, а тут одноместный. Совершенно верно, у него двигатель от Форда модели А. Oh, that's the plane I told you about, Paul. And now there are a lot of them flying. This is Pietenpol Air Camper. True, it should be a double, but here it is a single. That's right, it has a Ford Model A engine.
