Oh NICE!! I love it! The shaper sheet worked really well, it seems perfect for smaller layouts and dioramas... might start to get expensive on large layouts but it works a treat if you can afford it! Really enjoyed this video, I definitely picked up a few tips and tricks! Keep it up Kathy 😃
@KathyMillatt
@KathyMillatt 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Luke! I think the shaper sheet will be excellent under rivers etc if you have quite an open framework as a base. At least you know it won’t leak. It is pricy for whole layouts as you say.
@jvanamb
@jvanamb 4 жыл бұрын
@@KathyMillatt and Luke Towan, You two are SOOOOOOO correct. ShaperSheet is to expensive for even its own price point. So for we modelers who enjoy expanding our artisanship here a cheap Kitchen Table fix. Take two or three sheets of Aluminum Foil. Cut to identical desired sizes. A half inch to an inch larger than your diorama. Lay the three in layers atop each other and slightly crimp the edges under. Show not to be seen. Soak tissue or plain flat toilet paper in a lacquer and PVA mix (i.e. Mod Podge. Mine is home made.) CAREFULLY spread the sticky paper on to the Aluminum Foil base and let dry 8 - 10 hours. As needed. Repeat the tissue paper each day until you have built up the desires thickness. And proceed as Kathy described. (I should have said "as Luke described" but any more adulation and his head would swell to large for a super wide angle fisheye len.) Remember we are artisans first. We don't have to hurry. We don't have to worry. All is good in the eyes of the.....Jenny Kirk. ~Jim Van Amburgh

Many thanks for your video Kathy, put in my beach scene very much like your own recipe and it looks fanatastic. Heat warning with the sea though..it looks like Kathy put the sea in when the weather was pretty cool. My garage, were my model railway is located is regularly reaching 25 deg C this week and I was ready to put the sea effect in. The acrylic gloss fell out of the canister like water, not the lovely consistancy you had for brushing. The first layer had to be flat and has dried/ transparent in less than 3 hours. So I put the gloss acrylic in the fridge overnight for the following day, seemed to do the trick for subsequent layers. The same with the white acrylic paint for the waves, although it looked white it was well dilute. Again, put in the fridgeto thicken it up.

Thanks for uploading a very well-made video - it has been very professionally done with no blurred shots or bad sound! I would invest in Dremel 930 dual heat glue gun. When it is set to a high temperature, the glue takes longer to set which gives you more time and allows you to assemble projects very quickly for the camera without having to wait for the drying time required for PVA and Gorilla glue. Dremel GC01 high-temperature glue sticks will glue wood and textiles. You can use low-temperature glue sticks with card and foam, but set the gun to a high temperature to give you more time before the glue sets!
@KathyMillatt
@KathyMillatt 4 жыл бұрын
I have a hot glue gun but don’t really like it. I find the glue dribbles and strings a little. I did use my little one here for the fences but overall, I’m generally underwhelmed. What am I missing?
@AllensTrains
@AllensTrains 4 жыл бұрын
@@KathyMillatt The type of glue stick is important. I use Dremel GG01 Multi Purpose Hot Gun Glue Sticks, 12 Pack of 7 mm High Temperature Glue Sticks, Operating Temperature 165-195 degree Celsius. These don't string as easily if you move the gun away quickly. It is advisable to wear cotton gloves because the glue is very hot. If you quickly wave the glue stick across the foam as you did in the video and bang the two pieces of foam together, it is a quick job!

@@KathyMillatt You can assemble a SuperQuick kit this way - and it really will be super quick! Order some small-size metal foldback bulldog clips as these dissipate the heat better than clothes pegs. Find an old cork placemat for putting the hot gun down on!
