Yes Henry; I was just like you and visited Brian Tomkins many times in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Such an amazing shop he had the Sheraton Skyline Hotel, Heathrow. I also remember his previous shop at Noble Corner. That’s where I first came across his company and that was back in 1977/78. Greatly missed.

I never made it to the previous shop at Noble Corner. He is greatly missed indeed. He was ahead of his in so many ways. He brought many aspects of the hobby to a much wider audience.

Thank you Henry for this wonderful blast from the past - Brian, my Dad - loved the models and as you know aviation was his passion. I used to go to various artists to drop off and collect models - they would hand paint the liveries. Also I attended many airshows with him - working at Farnborough airshow on his stand many times.

My goodness Jo this is amazing to hear from you. I knew Brian had a son but was not aware of you.. a daughter. Please watch my video from the mid 1990s I filmed inside the Executive Display Models showroom at the Sheraton Skyline Hotel as your Dad is in it, talking to a customer on the phone.

@@JetFlix Hi Henry, yes - I exist lol - Nigel is 2 yrs older than me and he obviously worked for many years in Executive Display Models with my Dad. I sent the video you took in 1994 to my daughter Tiffany - Brian’s first grandchild (she was born in 1994) and she loved it and had vague memories of the showroom at The Sheraton where we used to go and have lunch with my Dad as often as possible. Thanks again for this fab video - it was just like being there! Are you on FB?

Wow .. did you see my video from inside the Executive Display Models showroom circa mid 1990s, as Brian is in that video. So I am guessing you are the daughter of Brian’s son. I am sorry I did not know him. I hope your Dad has seen my videos regarding Brian.

Thank you for sharing your lovely memories of Brian Austria-Tomkins and his fabulous Executive Display Models shop at the London Heathrow Sheraton Skyline Hotel. They were good times, nigh on 30 plus years ago.

I have a 1/72 Super VC10 in BOAC colours bought direct from Mr Austria -Tomkins in the Skyline Hotel. I wonder what its value is today! I need to find the paperwork for this but it was bought in the late 80's from memory. Very interesting video.

That’s a beautiful model you have congratulations. Do you have other models by EDM?

@@JetFlix I did have a 767-300ER in period BA Landor livery but sold it about 6 months ago. I am minded to sell this one too. The 767 made £300 but I think the VC10 could be more. I sold a Concorde for £600 but that wasn't EDM. I'm not really a collector but have had these three and enjoyed them for many years.

@@MrBubba59 I understand.. I am looking for classic propliner models made by EDM in the 1980s and earlier.

Never knew about the wingtips on the Britannia, just learned something.

It really is amazing the British aeronautical engineers back in the 1950s had already discovered benefits of winglets (of sorts) even back them. But it would take 60 years for airliner designers to endorse winglets in a huge way.

I have one of these models with a complete interior, any information on it, it looks like a small private jet N1DL on body. Thanks

Is it a model you would like to sell, as I collect them.
@MrBubba59 Жыл бұрын
Well I'm sure you will be rewarded in time. I remember the show room being full of these types when I visited. Do you know of another company producing models of EDM quality anywhere these days?
@JetFlix Жыл бұрын
As I explain in my video on Russian aircraft display models, the only companies producing EDM quality models in 2023 are located in mainland Russia. I have dealt with a number of them and I love their models. Unfortunately during this Ukraine conflict, it is impossible to transact with companies inside Russia so until that matter is resolved I won’t be able to add any more of their lovely models to my collection, but there are no companies outside of Russia, that I am aware of that produce on the same level as EDM.
