Still aamazed with each video I watch of this journey with Hopwood and his family hall and everyone involved. What a talent Bill is, to create a model in 1974 of the original hall from the 1600's before brick was laid to cover the exterior. For his model to still exist and be found within the hall, and for Bill to salvage or remake all the areas that were damaged and bring it totally back to it's original glory as it was when he made it in 1974. Bravo Bill, you are so talented, it's so beautiful, so wonderful you cared to take the time to do it, as it seems everyone involved in this Hopwood project is doing also. Such wonderful people, and this means YOU too, Hopwood! Always love the videos and going on this journey with you, from New York State.

What extraordinary craftsmanship Bill has. I bet he didn't tell you how much his fingers and hands cramped up while he was doing this. Will you be putting a good size metal plaque about Bill and his workmanship when you display this? I'm really so very proud of you. The courage and love for this project is generally a lifetime's undertaking. And here you are making such huge progress in a relatively small amount of time. Fantastic!

Hey Hopwood what a great episode !!! Once again it shows the magnetic nature of the hall as yet another person who is part of the history of the hall returns .Weve seen former workers , relatives of former workers , those returning " borrowed " parts of the hall and now Bill the model maker all return with fond memories or stories of the place . To think it's been 48 years since he worked on the model is mind boggling.... & he hasnt lost any of his modelling skills , I thought he did a great job .Anyway I'm droning on again ... parts of the hall are taking shape and I cant wait to see the 1st few completed areas

Wonderful work on the model and the castle. We liked when Bill said if it could be built, it could be rebuilt, the same approach we take with boats. The model may have offered a glimpse into the path that will be taken to restore the castle, very fortunate that the model was saved. Huzzah!

Brought tears to my eyes to see the model, Bill's work and pride, and to see the incredible continuing journey of restoration you are heading up with your visionary leadership and passion. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I look forward to more updates and amazing discoveries. Do take care of yourself as well as you are caring for this heritage site. All the best wishes to you. I juxt-suppose you will have a museum section to the house to show the model. Now you need a couple more, one showing the house in disrepair and another that is a work in progress which is updated as the renovations take shape. What would be great would be a 3D computer model with a touch screen where people could interact with it and see photos of the development of the house through the centuries and show photos of the renovations and discoveries.

I sure wish there was footage of your face when you first found out about, and when you first saw that astounding model! The castle seems to be a hodgepodge maze of the original building. If you make it into a weddong destination/writers retreat, / school for historic restoration, you might be able to find a way for the estate to become self sustainable. My OLSC.

Very impressive undertaking to restore the Hall. If interested, there is a chateau in the south of France, Chateau de Gudanes, where the Australian owners faced the same challenges. They may have been working longer than you and your tradespeople, so they are further along in their restoration. Best of luck!

If it were only that easy to repair the Hall! Have you made any decisions about exactly where in the Hall your living quarters will be? Since the servant's wing is basically a shell, it would be fun to remake the upper parts into your home.

Good morning, Hopwood. Is there a floor plan of Hopwood Hall on-line somewhere? A plan sure would help to understand the whole of the project - the Big Hopwood Picture. It's such a daunting project. I'm curious as to what the plan of attack has been . . . what sections of the castle or what systems of the structure have been addressed first, second, third, etc. Have you been in every room of the Hall yet?
@sallyturner16692 жыл бұрын
Did they just over lay the bricks or remove the facade? I find it interesting. Have you seen any of the Mapperton Live videos? It’s not quite your neighbor, I think it’s in Dorset. Julie is an American from Chicago married to the Viscount of Mapperton. Their channel is about trying to restore the Manor.
