When I create the mash network, the step disappears, how can I fix it?

I tried to repeat this exercise, and I meet the issue that cylinders are rolling around themselves, although I move the pivot to X-point, freeze the object. Do you have any ideas, where is my mistake?

I know exactly what happened, you forgot to freeze transforms and delete 'history' on the object. That would cause your exact issue during the connector stage of the cylinders rolling around themselves when attempting Y rotation.
