In this second video on modeling chess pieces, we model the Bishop, which contains a boolean object that can be tricky. But once you know how to approach it, it's easy. START FILE: drive.google.c... #boolean #blender4

Great tutorial! Also, at 12:09 you don't have to add the merge option to Favorites, you can press ,,M" key and the merge menu will pop up with all the merge options.

There is also this super nice extension that comes included with Blender called 3D Viewport Pie Menus that add a bunch of pie menus that are super handy. They allow for a quick Key + Drag gesture for a ton of things and speed up the workflow quite a bit.

Really detailed tutorial, it was very helpful because normally I do things like spending ages trying to get rid of the triangles because I thought it needed to be all in quads. The only thing I noticed is that at 11:15 you can use the edge slide tool with auto merge turned on alternatively to just speed up the process a bit!

If you enable Clipping in the mirror modifier you really don't need to apply it all the time, can save on a lot of extra work. And some other quick tips: ctrl-1, ctrl-2, ctrrl-3 in object mode directly apply a subdivision modifier with the given level. And that vertex cleanup after the boolean is done quicker selecting the 3 verts in the right order, then hitting M for merge and L for last (nearby on the keyboard, so really quick): there is no need to first join two verts then clean up the left over edges.

Hey Chris, "M" key brings up the merge( weld ) menu on it's own!

21:03 why is your selection kind of see-through? I mean that bleeding of the orange into the mesh.

I'm not sure, they made changes to the MacOS Metal display back in 3.5 or 3.6 and it began doing that.

Thanks. Was hoping it was an option. It seems useful to know your selection goes beyond that edge without going full x-ray.

Yehhh but if you lose one bishop then the other is useless on it's own....! Chess PTSD.

People didn't come to this channel to learn CAD, they came to learn Blender's modeling tools.

@@christopher3d475 Anyway. You want to take a look into Plasticity. With Plasticity parasolid modeling is a blast and it's the best friend for Blender.
