Luka Cee, thanks so much for sharing. I was on the fence until someone else reviewed the Ammo stuff. Seems like a better bargain for the number of sheets you get rather than the smaller sheet of Bare Metal Foil, along with the quality of the product. You've had a Bare metal sheet for 12 years; it'll deteriorate a bit more and just be a pain in the butt to use, but the Ammo foil will look better and would influence you to use more of it on projects. The bare metal foil can also be used on other things, depending on what type of finish you want; it's still relevant in our hobby, but to get 5 sheets with ammo, I'll go all in until someone comes up with something better ( who's got the balls to produce chrome trim pieces made of chromed metal with varying shines) the hobby is in good hands and we thank you for sharing your passion of the hobby.

Cool I can't wait to try some of this out myself. I've seen the regular MIG yellow sheets before, but this is cool they make Chrome and Aluminum. Little trip on Long Term Storage, if you have a Food Vacuum Sealer, you can seal your sheets of foil for long term so air doesn't degrade the adhesive on the sheets. Especially with Bare Metal Foil and how bad those can go after a while of exposure. Good review Luka!

@@goratgo1970 actually, you don’t need a vacuum sealer. You can put them in a regular clear plastic bag and slice the end with a hot soldering gun with a blade attachment. Works perfectly.
@goratgo1970 Жыл бұрын
@@johnhopkins6565 Yes agreed, my post wasn't exact - I use a food sealer to melt open end of bag closed. But when I do, I have a hard flat surface same height as sealer, then when bag set to seal, push down on entire bag with clipboard to remove air. Extra flat for storage too.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your videos. Thaks for sharing! After watching this one, it entered my mind to try aluminum tape. I had an old roll of 3M 2" sitting around (like you see at Lowe's), so I tried it. That stuff burnished into a real chrome look! The only disadvantage (if you can call it that) I see is that you have to be a bit more careful trimming it on the model because of its thickness. You have to take a little more care in indenting the tape around seams. I just now tried it for the first time, so I don't know how adhesion will do in the long run, but this stuff sticks to galvanized or aluminum flue pipe for years, even with that heat. You may want to try it or you may not...but it's another option.

I kept playing with the Aluminim tape, and it's amazing...for what it's worth. It's (a little) thick, but the shine really stnads out.

i can confirm this aluminium works but, and its a big but ,the Chrome works on flat surfaces but is made of a different material that DOES NOT conform to curves the material reminds me of the stuff they use for christmas decorations it has a strong plastic like flexibility that when used on curves tends to pull back into its original shape causing it to lift away from curves and any small details are impossible to get it to lay in there without lifting just a heads up for everyone hope it helps

Thanks Luka for spending the money and trying this stuff. I have been trying out so many alternatives. I have had some luck using dollar store aluminum foil (the major brand stuff is too thick) with Micro metal foil adhesive to make something look like a panel. What is cool about using actual aluminum foil is you have a shiny side and a dull side!

grabbed some of the aluminum and chrome to try out. Sadly Andy's was out of stock. BMF has gotten too expensive, can be hard to find in stock, and it doesn't work anymore. The stuff they have been putting out the last couple years at least, is too thick, it won't cut, and it won't stick for crap. You have to hold the bmf in place with a tooth pick in one hand, while trying to cut the other. and need a third hand to hold the model or part. Definitely looking forward to trying this stuff out. Thanks for the heads up!

I've been using Bare Metal Foil since around 1995 or so. I am very familiar how it applies and how to use it. This seems like a decent replacement and at a good price that is until you calculate the shipping cost into the equation. Even still, it comes out to just over $5.00 per sheet to ship to my zip code. LUKA, that new stuff looks and works pretty good! What I'm thinking is ill use BMF for window trim and such and ill use the MIG for large panels like the stock car piece that you put it on. Yea, you get a much better deal with MIG than you do with BMF. I wonder how it holds up over time, too. I've never had any problems with BMF degrading over time because I never put my models out in the sunlight, extreme heat or cold and it doesn't yellow over the years. I bought it with high hopes out of utter frustration over what has become of BMF. Unfortunately, my experience is that it is too thick which might not be bad for certain types of chrome appearance on 50s and 60s cars. But it is difficult to cut through with any degree of accuracy. Then when I try to remove small pieces of excess it sticks too much causing the blade to scratch the plastic. Maybe you all have had better luck. Would much love to know if the so called improved BMF is really improved without investing anymore $ before I find out. Would love to know if anyone has used the "improved" BMF.
