I bet with a soapy solution they be pretty easy to do. and 2k clear would seal rather well and hopefully not hurt the wrap maybe even a water based clear.

Sign guys use a soapy water mix, maybe with alcohol to speed the evaporation?
@youknoweverything76432 жыл бұрын
No alcohol just two drops of dawn dish soap in a spray bottle I do my own wraps and vynil work on my circle track cars and you squeegee out all the water and can slide it into position then squeegee and leave it alone until water dries completely

I just got this kit, and this video will be a huge help in terms of guidance. Thanks for putting it out!
@rudyhollis65403 жыл бұрын
You can cut out around the decal and cut only half of the backing off so you're working with only half at a time and use a spray bottle with a couple drops of dawn and a splash of alcohol to allow time to adjust!!! That's how we did with huge decals on racecars when I owed a sign shop!!!!

Thanks for chiming in. That's exactly what I was wondering.

if i ever build that kit, i think i'll trim the clear portions off first. then use the felt edge squeegee tool. thank you for the heads upon this decal material.

Nice looking product. Back in the late 60's and early 70's I built al the Richard Petty cars. Back then the bodies were molded in Petty blue but we had to paint all the red as they didn't have decals for all the areas that the wraps cover. Only decals were for the numbers and sponsors. By the way I was a big Richard Petty fan back when he was still racing and back in 2013 I got to meet him and get his autograph and some pictures with him at Chicagoland Speedway. He is a real great guy with the fans and a class act.

Spray soapy water on the body. Put the wrap on move it around till it’s in the wright place and rub the bubbles out with a thin credit card. And dry off with a damp micro fiber cloth. Done

I wonder if you could use a hair dryer to shrink the stretch marks out or heat gun very low setting.
@mrcarlo19662 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of it and I think it’s a start.If they could be “floated” on with water and repositioned kind of like is done on full size cars it would be great.I’m old and impatient I think that after the third or fourth try of repositioning I would be performing a crash test against the wall.

I don't think that technic will work. I've put those on the real cars. So I thought about it.

I made a Styrofoam jig for doing side decals.. basically a u channel where the car fits side ways or over top Velcro in place to hold it.

Already preordered one. Thanks for showing how to get rid of mold lines on a surface your not gonna paint. The Petty paint scheme is intimidating for a novice. I cant wait for more kits.
@TheLukaCeeChannel3 жыл бұрын
I was never planning on doing this Petty car. I'll do the 73 (The first SJR Charger) and paint it all. But now with this way. I'm going to get another complete 76 kit that blue with the vinyls. And I'll build it for myself. It's allot of fun and really quite satisfying of a build. And I'm going to bring it to shows.

Good deal! If I was going to do that I would cut the decal from the sheet with the backing and tape it in place like they do on full-size cars. Also it would be wise to have some thing that would firmly hold the body so you're not chasing it around while you're trying to put that decal where it belongs. Just just my two cents
@TheLukaCeeChannel3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I'm getting another one to build for myself. I'm going to do it that way. It's difficult doing it and trying to make a video. The next one will be off camera.

You can. It will work. I'm just not a fan of using floor acrylic clear. I used it 33 years ago and Im just not happy with the long term results.

Transfer tape and a piece of wax paper is the best way to lay down the vinyl.

Great demonstration, thanks. It's refreshing watching the struggle rather than having it appear to be easy peasy. I would guess that not having a camera involved in the second side made it easier. Also, loved your music choice.

Use soapy water solution it will move around the body, it is not new technology it is the same as the vinyl used for signing vans etc only mutch thinner, not like vinyl body wrap you have to use heat with that stuff. Seems like a bit of a faf to me just use the decals supplied I will try some then clear it with some 2k who knows they may have a place in my aftermarket box.

It's nice to have alternatives. Not replace water slides. I myself, is going to get another one of these kits. It was fun. That's what model car building is about.
@B25gunship2 жыл бұрын
Me too. At this scale there is no room for placement error and there's not much wiggle room for moving them around during application. They also aren't very glossy but I thought there was a comment about not clearcoating.
