how you make the cube become wireframe inside after you combine it? im clueless now at that part

Im shifting to blender from sketchup.. do you have a tutorial on dimensions and sizes? most tutorials are on sfx and animated stuff.. but not like building models for booth design and stage set ups.. cool design by the way.
