At 6:23 you can first bevel the 3 central faces (uncheck individual,press I to toggle), then select the remaining faces and press "Shift+R". Also i first add edge loop in between the extrusion and just bevel the edge.

Hi CG. I did every step demonstrated in the video but when it came to bridge the edges I kept getting the message "Select at least two edge loop" I did the exercise 5 times and got the same results. I poster my headache to blender who replied that both faces must be joined first before it can occur. I did as recommended and was successful. I am using the 2.92 version.

My workflow would be Simplifying the loopcuts to profile the extent of the panels then inset the faces of the panels at once would be a cleaner way to model this door style, also the alt select and ctrl select help speed up the workflow.. I used to watch your sketchup plugin videos a while back they were a good little snippets of info, great to see you have moved onto blender it's fantastic tool and has now become a core part of my architectural workflow.

After adding the image as plane, the next step is to add a plane to size to the door. When I add that plane, it is opaque - I can't see the door image through the new plane. So I'm stuck at the adding edge loops steps because I can't see the image underneath the plane. What did I miss?

What would be the best way to go around making a keyhole ? I'm really struggling to find a good way to make holes in my faces. I can use loop tools, but for such a tiny surface, i divide 4-5 times to get faces to make a hole from. Sometimes its kinda okay, but it totally warps the mesh.
@dr.albitros42422 жыл бұрын
You can use bool tool (from addons). You make the mesh that is how would hole look(you have to put it in the place you wanna have hole), you select it, then mesh that you wanna have hole in, you press ctrl+shift+b, you choose difference, and done! The hole is EXACT size and place that you have put in mesh that is hole

Hi! I know this video is filmed a while ago, so I don’t expect an answer! But followed this tutorial and when I got to edge bridge loop, I couldn’t get it to connect at all. Nothing happend. Like, the function didn’t react to me clicking on it at all. I have tried dublicating the door and placed it correctly on the other side, joined both parts together and tried without joining. Noting works. So I exited blender and started a completely fresh project, and tested it out with two cubes. They didn’t connect either. I have clicked on everything I can possinly imagine by now, and no matter what I do… the bridge edge loop IS. Not. Working! Please, if anyone knows why, please help me!

When extruding the frame i would have selected the whole thing and extruded it a bit, then deselected the inner ring of faces and extruded the rest a bit more, then deselected the middle ring of faces and extruded the outer ring, that would have elimionated all them internal faces you have inside the frames mesh, which can cause huge issues later.
@TheCGEssentials4 жыл бұрын
I'm not really convinced in this case that it would create huge issues later. All I'd be doing with this door is pairing it with a Boolean cutting cube/rectangle to cut openings in walls and texturing it with a straight on UV projected from a view - why does it matter if there are internal faces?
@haunteddiary154 жыл бұрын
@@TheCGEssentials Try doing edge loops with internal faces, blender will have issues trying to find a loop, just like it does with poles, try doing subdivisions or bevels with internal faces, you may get warping, even rendering with internal faces can cause rendering artifacts, there's a long list of reasons, not to mention that it is simply extra poly's that you don't need. Anyway, it was just a tip, you can do it any way you like, i'm was just telling you my workflow as you asked in your pinned comment.
@TheCGEssentials4 жыл бұрын
@@haunteddiary15 Nope you're good - I appreciate the response - wanted to hear your thinking behind it. I'm kind of an advocate of changing your workflow depending on your desired result. For example - I'm not ever going to subdivide a door frame, so I don't are as much about the topology being perfect for that. I'm probably not really doing too much more with edge loops within this model either, so maybe not that big of a deal either. However, I think this workflow really looks different depending on if you're doing game design, architectural modeling, etc, etc, as well as the size of the model. However, you're right - if you're going for a perfect topology workflow, there's probably a better way to do this, but I think for a lot of beginners, it's probably a good place to start. Thanks for the feedback! :)

Why did you make a new plane over the image with plane? Just make the detail in the “Door” plane! You get the texture already in the plane to begin with. You just have to add the vertex and lines to the image plane and extrude. I made whole cities, rooms from just one image, broken up
@TheCGEssentials4 жыл бұрын
Interesting - I suppose you could do that as well - I'm not necessarily sure that doing it this way is really much harder, but you would be able to skip the application of the texture to the object later. In this case, I wanted my door and frame to be separate objects - is there an easy way to separate them after the fact if you model it the way you described?
