Modeling in Blender - Easy Shark

What better way to celebrate Shark Week than by making Great White sharks in Blender??
Hello and welcome to the Station! In this Beginner's Workshop I'll walk you through low-poly modeling "Bob", a Great White shark swimming out of Ironbound Nova Scotia. Bob's an adult male Carcharodon carcharias from the East Coast, 4.06 meters in length and he weighs over 1300 pounds. Bob's a big boy, and Bob plays for keeps. This is a "Beginner Level" tutorial and a great exercise for practicing low-poly modeling. If this is your first time working in Blender I want to invite you to open up a most-recent-version of the software right now and follow along with us in real-time and build your own Great White Shark. Anyone can do it, because Blender is for everyone, and the best way to learn about something is to make something with it, so let's get crackin'!

For other viewers at 23:03 who weren't sure how to turn on symmetry for an armature: Select the armature in Object Mode. Tab to Edit Mode. A to select all. In the menu bar at the top right, next to the 'Edit Mode' dropdown, select the Armature menu, then Symmetrize. (Blender 4.0) Thank you so much for this excellent, amusing, educational, encouraging, and soothing tutorial! I did look up my friends' names on Ocearch so that I could inform each friend if there was a shark with their name. (They were happy to know.) I appreciate your fun asides and enthusiasm for sharks and science. The reference image was very helpful.

Good topology. Great work. We dont get any sharks in the UK. It is going to have to be eel week. Sounds rubbish. It's probably easier to model though.

No way, Stranger! There are over 21 different species of shark in U.K. waters right now! The Angelshark used to be the most common shark in U.K. waters, but now they're critically endangered. If you're up for it, would suggest building an Angelshark. I might build one, too. That sounds like a great idea. Good luck!

Bonjour, Yves!~ Yes, the same basic process applies across most box modeling (reference images --> extrude/inset/bevel/push/pull geometry to build you shapes) Search KZbin for: "blender low poly box modeling car" for a handful of great tutorials from other stations.

When I go to pose mode and I move the rig, the model doesn't move with it unfortunately..any ideas as to why?

Two things come to mind: First- confirm you've applied all Modifiers to your mesh. Then try re-parenting the rig. Second- confirm the mesh was properly parented to the armature (with automatic weights!), then try jumping back into Pose Mode and see if that solves your problem. Would advise starting at 23:10 and working through the activity again from that point on.
