I just used this today, and your video reminds me to check the pop-up for pretty much every tool now and again. I didn't realize you can move the center of the spin. That's a super awesome tip! Also if you spin a profile, and you extrude vertices, don't forget to check for accidental duplicates. I had a goblet z-fighting for freedom because of this

One of my biggest vices has been avoiding stuff I don't understand at all or don't think would be useful just because I haven't used it. What you have to realize, though, is that while you might feel less capable, understanding or utilizing a smaller percentage of what you know of is better than understanding all of what you hear by hearing less. When you sleep, your brain physically restructures itself to be more in tune with a topic, too, and if you just do a bunch of low pressure, wide spanning passes of research, you'll be quicker to find the tricks that are easy, and you can build more of a frame of reference to get over the stuff that's harder

That "lathe function" is also a modifier. If I'm not mistaken, it's the "screw" modifier.

For more realistic look to tables you could change the value of 2 or 4 chairs just to add detail as in real life nothing is set perfectly. The better your software the more in depth detail can go and if you want to make a movie having more triangles for close ups will always be key!
