Just when I was about to give up and remove comping from my harmonica style, you post this video...Thanks, Adam. I think I'll keep working at it now.

This actually helped a lot Adam. I have been trying to figure out how to do that out for a while. Thanks for the interesting take on comping.

Adam this comes just in time..me and my frd(also called adam) is doing some original songs (not exactly blues though)based on guitar and harp. I comp with my harp and i am always wondering how much i should play within the songs... I will post a video response on this and please if you will, as well as other harp players give us some comments! Thanks adam for this great lesson!!

sage advice to all that wail over stuff without thinking where the songs going , as i'm mainly on guitar these days i record the harp to comp and also fill in with the guitar when needed , as you might have already said , it's all about leaving space and keeping the backbeat swinging along not about saying look at my wonderful playing but taking the song and adding the hot sauce drip by drip instead of drizling it on and blowing the roof of your mouth off in one go ! interesting analogy !

Well, I'll be damned. Ever since I started watching your videos something kept nagging at the back of my brain. You looked like someone I had seen before. Given where you live though, I figured that wasn't the case. Now I know I have seen you before. At the Busker's Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia. That was a long time ago, and you guys just keep getting better. You have a gift, not only as a harp player, but as a teacher. Please, keep doing what you are doing.

It's funny, I never noticed it, but when I'm singing in my duo I obviously have to play call and response but when my buddy is playing I seem to either copy the melody line or play a harmony. I take pauses, but it's usually the same time as the vocal. I kind of forget all about call and response.
