I am a very very simple man, I see a new video of Elliott and I clicked right away, not only that I also press like and make sure to drop a comment as well. I mean how boring life would be without our favorite British Accent Pronunciation Coach Elliott's videos, huh! Much ❤ Sir

Wow, that is humble of you, unlike some of my fellow Africans who refuse to learn proper English, and even make every effort to Africanize it. This phenomenon, known as language resistance, is a significant obstacle to our education. I enjoy watching ETJ English to continue improving.

Interesting lesson. Most words you introduced I prefer in Standard RP. Somehow I can't get used - and don't like it very much - to hear words such as Tuesday, issue, tube, duty, student, tune, structure etc. in modern RP. I guess that makes me old fashioned 😅

Hello Elliot, it's so nice to see another video of yours here because I do like your style ( by the way, I do like your new style...short hair suits you and clothes and jewlery as well, does it have a name the stile you're following or it's yours! 😅), yes your way of teaching and your voice is so clear and calm at the same time😊, I'm over using your pronunciation videos tutorials on sounds, I want to acquire a British accent the modern one. Last thing, the word "Tuesday" I am used to pronouncing it like "cjuzdei" so a mix...am I wrong? Sorry, I don't have the IPA on my keyboard 😊

The first example of how to pronounce the word 'schedule' in modern RP is awful 😅 I'll never say 'duke' using modern RP either. This video has made me realise that I personally mix between standard and modern. I lean towards standard, but then it depends on the situation. As always great vid ! ❤

As a university English lecturer, which style is more appropriate for such an academic situation, the Classical RP or the Modern one?
@ETJEnglish10 күн бұрын
Either is fine, honestly. I think you should ask yourself which style you prefer the most - maybe watch some KZbin videos of modern RP and upper/standard RP speakers and see which one makes you feel good. Traditional sounds great in formal situations.

I prefer the standard RP pronunciation. The modern version seems increasingly unassuming. Native English speakers merge sounds for convenience. First you dropped the r sound completely, now you merge sounds for convenience. An extremely unassuming attitude towards your own native language.
@ETJEnglish10 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Language is constantly evolving, and while some people may prefer older forms, it's important to remember that clear communication and feeling comfortable is key. Many viewers may prefer to sound more contemporary, and it's my job to show the many options available so they can make their own decisions about their accent - modern or traditional (this is why I show both options in the video). I like to think it's important to celebrate the diversity of English in all its forms.
