I (hope) I sense a movement in serious woodworkers who have YT channels to go beyond the rectangular. I think of you and Pedulla Studios (and I’m sure there are others and would welcome people suggesting those) as ones who are no longer content to use straight and 90 degrees as their watchwords. I was taught that introducing one curve into a project increased the labour (and stress) 10 fold; introducing compound curves increased it 100 fold. I wouldn’t guarantee those figures but I attribute my hair loss and heart attack to building complex curved pieces of furniture. Woodworking has always evolved and it is absolutely right to use the very latest techniques, tools and materials to push the boundaries of what we can achieve. I don’t have a CNC and probably will never get one but I don’t hesitate to buy CNC time if I need it. The CNC doesn’t do anything that I can’t do by hand but it does it so much quicker and totally without stress (except to my wallet) that I don’t hesitate. Those who decry the use of CNC in woodworking as somehow a betrayal are entitled to their opinion just as those who booed Dylan at Newport were entitled to their opinion. I would ask those Luddites if they use routers or powered portable saws as I don’t think Chippendale had access to those easier. Although I have no doubt that, had he got access, the superb businessman that he was would have snapped them up. Back to the project. So happy to see you attempt something different. Failures are inevitable and, I believe, an indicator of pushing the boundaries of what you know. None of what you do is cheap; in materials, in labour and in investment for equipment. You are yourself an astute businessman and I genuinely hope that your business can and does justify its costs. It would be very sad for the community of cutting edge woodwork design if people like you disappeared from the library of learning for us all
@SawyerDesign Жыл бұрын
Thanks Theo! Would love to team up with the other Nick on something someday. You nailed it on the cost part. Still trying to figure out how best to keep this pace up.
@theofarmmanager267 Жыл бұрын
@@SawyerDesign thanks for the reply. If you mean keeping the pace in terms of making, producing videos, shop etc, my advice is - don’t. I was MD of a large business and the stresses from that cost me my first marriage and the issues that led to a heart attack. I struggle even now (at nearly 70) to maintain an acceptable pace. Nothing is worth the price I paid although it could have been fatal.

Glad to see you back in my feed and the new project sounds very cool... but I really didn't like the video format this time. I really have no idea what you are building and how these steps fit with the larger project. I get the desire to split videos into parts, but I think maybe you should have some additional introduction / level set / design discussion so viewers have some grounding. I personally like when you talk to camera, so maybe I just missed you in the process vs. watching you woodwork under a voice over. Anyway, excited to see what's next, just wanted to share some feedback.
