After the first couple logs I continued the work alone. Adjusting the logs properly for drawing is very time consuming for beginners like me. In this video I'll share some tips that helped me.

Lovely to see your progress. It seems you learn a little more everyday - sort of like you're your own apprentice. The school of hard-knocks (learning on your own, by doing) is a great teacher.

That is very much true. The learning curve rised exponentially after the teacher left 😊 However it was a good idea to ask help at the beginning.

Fantastic job of cutting the dove tails and joining the logs together. Stay safe, be careful, take it easy and keep warm and dry.

That's nice joinery. The mating natural edges looks very beautiful too once I stop gawking at the lack of gaps = )

Looking really promising, thx for sharing the video! If you don't mind, here's just one small advice: you can pre-cut the lines just before cutting and the chainsaw doesn't rip the wood that much. A multitool is quite handy for this, but pre-cutting can be done with a chisel too.

Don't quite understand the technique, but trueing up that gap at the end - amazing!

Can you do a video of how you do the joints? The calculations that goes into it or if you use a template, and how that works if so. Would be really interesting to see!

Very nice job! I have not found much instruction online about this full scribe live edge dovetail log building method. Maybe some day you could walk us through the details of just how you lay out the pencil lines for the dovetail. It is interesting that you do not cut the lower notch until after you scribe the next log. I assume that with this method, each notch is unique, not a uniform size in order to keep the courses growing equally. So much to learn it is intimidating
@FinnishPlayground2 жыл бұрын
Yes this is something you can learn just by doing. Next time I definitely need to do more detailed instructions, I was too busy with this one. Every notch is unique with this style.

Could you show how you layout the dove tail and get the height right to get the log to fit over the log below it. Love what you are doing. Also if there's a book that explains it.

I got it from my father but you can find those from many blacksmiths. All the websites I know seems to be in Finnish only :(
