"Modern Guitar Is Getting Boring" Starts to dial that "modern" tone once again.
@thefriedpiper
@thefriedpiper Жыл бұрын
Just clickbait dude. At this point you know, and I can't stress this work enough, EXACTLY what you're getting from K. Every demo is going to sound basically exactly the same and he'll almost come right out and say it every single time. "This does this thing that's totally different....let me glance over that and dial in myself the exact same tone I always do", demo said tone, in the exact same way, then proceed to go almost word for word with every amp demo. Idk why I come here anymore. This is the reason metal is getting stagnant, K is copying his boys with a slight twist, then there's several thousand people out there copying K to a tee. Instead of pushing through with the cool features and getting creative with them, we get another 30 second modern metal tone demo and literally didn't utilize them at all.

The solution is whatever the callous daobois be doing. Heavy and raw AF. Not tuned down to Z. 8 members, inc violin (which is just mini-guitar played with a bow) and stuff.

@@voidabstraction it's not lacking at all, there's so much good stuff out there. It's just that online modern metal guitarists exist in a hivemind that only use what everyone else is using - which is usually just the result of great marketing from the companies.
@voidabstraction
@voidabstraction Жыл бұрын
@@Robster881 eh, is it the hivemind or is it just generally not enjoying other stuff? I mean I like NDSP, there just isn't enough variety from them because they don't seem to be challenged. You have Helix, which is alright but a high buy in if you don't already own the gear. You've got bias that doesn't sound very good to my ears. Then you have the UAD stuff that's pretty awesome sounding/feeling but there are only a few amps again. Amplitude is overpriced for what you get and I don't think they sound very good, a few solo guys out there making plugins like Vadim sims that are okay etc but again are mostly all the same kind of amps. I guess what I should be saying is that amp and pedal makers have largely ignore the growing bedroom guitarist scene, whether that's providing smaller more studio/bedroom based heads and or just digital plugin versions of their physical stuff (and I'm not talking about the boutique kind of makers haha)... but look at Earthquaker for example... imagine if they released digital versions of their gear etc...

@@voidabstraction STL Tones Amphub and Tonehub are great in my experience compared to other software amp sims. I've heard the new IK Tonex is quite good as well. I couldn't get along with the positive grid or JST stuff in years past, and the NeuralDSP stuff is just ok compared to the real amps or physical modelers I've used (Axe Fx or Helix with my own preferred IRs). +1 that the UAD/Brainworx stuff is great, though lacking in selection and unfortunately limited to only UAD users.

I really like the idea of blending ambient or synth sounds into guitar playing. The Archetype Rabea plugin is nuts. But you can`t really mix the stuff up the way you like it jet. While post-processing in a cab section helps fit stuff into a mix, I really like it when bands can make their instruments sound awesome without it. Having some raw real instrumentals in the mix is somewhat fresh and new to my ears. In the Neural DSP stuff, I like to turn down the mics and crank the master volume, to get the compression from the Amp. ^^ I somehow started to use my volume and tone nob on the guitar. Something I still miss is a cab section where I can place cabs in a room, but capture the sound without the filter and response of any mics and mic preamps.

I don’t think is the sound per se that makes the modern metal sound the same, but the combination of many factors, the same traditional style of drums, the similar style of syncopation and basic change of tempos which is now a baseline, the very generic style of playing the guitar, and lastly is the sound which really I think is the least of the issues, as the sound at the end and this is my personal take is shaped and ultimately crafted by the player regardless of equipment, also a big culprit is the dissemination of information, and this is not just for this style of music or this type of art but for everything if you look around, everything is starting to feel generic because the standards and processes that are followed or copied because is a safe way to get to a goal, people get less incentive to be innovators when u can just copy the sound or press a button and have a perfect modulated sound, I feel like in communication in general the use of technology in these days starts to feel like a liability, instead of just being a tool for creativity it becomes a hard rule to follow that basically creates clones of everything

I own various amp simulations but my favorite sounds are from Bias, by far. The problem is that it's very very hard to get his full potential. Factory presets are just ok/meh and the ToneCloud is a mess... it was good at the beginning but now the good tones are completely hidden by thousand of terrible ones.

I have NDSP Petrucci and Bias FX. I will say I use the NDSP much more often, but the BIAS FX is still great. Sometimes I just find some of the effects lacking. I'm just a novice who wanted a VST that could do everything, NDSP is the first I got, I got BIAS FX bc it was only a crazy sale and I wanted to see what the rave was all about. FX definitely is more streamlined when you look at the mix. Either way, if you're a novice like me that just plays for fun, either will make you happy. Unless you are looking for something like the Henson project by NDSP where there are specific effects that aren't available any other way.

Still sounds modern. It's just people's playing style is all very similar (mine included) - until we have a new wave of people doing something differently then it'll just stay generically the same. It was similar when metalcore became one of the main style of playing back in 2008ish.

I dont wanna sound like a boomer here but I genuinely believe that part of the reason bands are starting to sound too similar is because they all tune low. The actually difference between notes becomes less and less distinguished the lower you go. There's so many good riffs that sit between E standard and B standard. Every band is focused on being heavy but not being creative.

@CrzyWzrd4L
@CrzyWzrd4L Жыл бұрын
It’s possible to tune low and still produce a really unique guitar sound, but it comes from gear that most djent kids run from. They’re all using 5150s with cranked mids into a Mesa cab, when the real key to a hyper aggressive low tuned rhythm sound is a Mesa Mark series into a Marshall cab. The Master of Puppets tone translates to low tunings extremely well.

I agree with the "Boomer" logic. One overlooked reason is the bass guitar. To my ear, the bass guitar still "thumps" down to a B (5 string bass). Maybe that is why I also find my favorite riffs to be within the Zoomer/older Death-Metal range (E down to B).

The reason modern metal sucks is because you all play the same. It's not the tones, it's you... It's like no one is even trying to write interesting music but rather spending their entire time playing by a set of rules that defines them as "hard." I can't even remember the last time I hear a metal song that was not regurgitated crap. I'm not being rude, I'd talk to you mostly like this in person, with no hate in my voice. You started the video by stating something I noticed about 15 years ago, then says "bias effects" and i thought, I bet he plays average everyday "standard" acceptable metal... annnnd, DUN DUUUN DUNT, DOOOOWNT DUN DUNT! WEE WEE! DUN WEE! DUN DUNT! Yup. Build a song like you would write a story. If you're story is ninja anima kid get's angry and a nuke blows up as they attack, well... it's bad writing. strum the strings, listen for something that catches your ear, then take it, build on it with stuff that works with that story, don't force fuck other pre written plots into your music and wonder why it sounds like every other TV shows out there.
