I think Seth has it backwards. Urza’s Incubator wasn’t played heavily in Commander because it was a $30 card that no one wanted to play, it was because it was a card people wanted to play…but it was $30! Even a previous reprint didn’t help price wise. But this should help. And I think we’ll see an uptick in Commander play.

I don't understand why people are saying this set is disappointing or weak or "just another commander set". There are so many powerful cards here, some that will make new decks, and while the flares are not as strong as the elemental or forces, they are still powerful cards despite having to build around them a bit. Yes, there are legends that will not see Modern play and are for Commander, but the ratios feel the same as most standard sets. There are always draft cards, constructed cards, and commander cards in every set. Why are people mad at that?
@ericbasnight20686 ай бұрын
People are mad because it's a MODERN set. Commander has been taking over other formats. The name suggests the set is here to stimulate the Modern format. Which is becoming the new Legacy and at one point was the most played format. But when Commander decks are released along side the set, and so many cards scream Commander play... It's a Commander set. And Commander is killing this game.
@matthiasvecanski70446 ай бұрын
I think the frustration lies in that it’s a premium priced product, and you have a lot of the mythic slots being used for commander reprints (cause no one is playing seriously Kaalia or Brya in modern) . No one wants Ragavan or Elementals 2.0, but there are very few cards that immediately create new archetypes or push out of favor archetypes in ways that line up with what modern is in 2024. And it’s true there’s always draft chaft in sets is a necessary thing in limited formats. Also even wizards employees in official streams are misnaming it commander masters… so the continuation of products being made commander-focused first is still prevalent. (I mean commander decks as part of modern horizons is still a bit cringe compared to starter decks to get into modern)
@AutkastKain6 ай бұрын
The Commander decks I can 1000% agree with. They should have been Modern Challenger decks. It's the perfect time to offer people a gateway into Modern with some pre-built decks. Also I didn't know they misspoke the name on stream. That part is just funny to me.

For the landscape lands. I have a commander question. Because they have an activated ability that requires you to have 3 different mana types. does that mean that for the deck building purpose on these, their color identity is all three? meanings do you have have to have a 3+ mana color identity to be able to put them into your deck? Like for instance if i wanted to make a sheoldred deck (first mono colored legend that came to my mind) He has a color identity of Black. I know i cant put the card "Assassin's Trophy" in the deck because it has a color identity of Black/Green. Does this rule apply to lands as well?

I think you’re really overstating the exert on Arena of Glory as some kind of “really big cost”. You’re really just paying one mana next turn and NOTHING this turn - not even the one mama from the land itself, which it still gets to produce! Let me say that again: This land has NO activation cost the turn you use it. You get to play completely on curve - including this as a land - and get free haste this turn! The only cost is that next turn, you’re down one single mana. How does any aggressive deck not want that?! (Unless, of course, all your creatures already naturally have haste.) Now, whether there’s an red-based creature deck in Modern that has enough Mountains and can afford a mono colored land I’m not gonna claim to know - I’m certainly no expert on the Modern meta - but looking at this thing as if it’s just a marginal improvement on other haste-granting lands is IMO completely wrong. Only Hall of the Bandit Lord could do what this thing can do, and it had three MASSIVE downsides in being ETB tapped, colorless, and costing 3 life every time it made mana, together making it pretty non-functional as a normal land. Arena of Glory is miles better.

@lasterman941006 ай бұрын
@@animesfreakify Don't get me wrong I love commander with friends. I think you're missing the point of my comment though, which is that everything being commander nowadays is an issue, even for commander players, having some products directed towards other formats from time to time help to slow down product fatigue for customers (we had 50 new legendaries just with the last set a month ago) as they can avoid it without feeling pressured to buy. Also commander is made in such a way that any set, designed for it or not, has incidental value for the format. Which means that all these commander reprints could have been new impactful cards for modern, and potential new cards for commander in the process. Finally, this set has very high price tag for no big reason considering the lack of powerful reprints (save from fetchlands, that mh2 had and costed half as much). And if players grow tired of releases and prices, they don't buy the products, and if they don't buy the product, nobody wins, especially commander players who can't find decent single prices.

Today I learned that Kappa cannoner (a staple in legacy artifact decks) is a “dud reprint” that’s “not meant for modern”. There’s obviously nothing interesting you could do with a card like sylvan safe-keeper or Laeila in modern, unlike in commander. I get that the flare free spell cycle isn’t inspiring the same dopamine rush that the evoke elementals and force of negation did, but is it really that hard to wait for the set to actually be out for a week before condemning it as garbage? If lava spur boots can become a legacy staple and Vein Ripper can come to dominate pioneer, then I’m sure that MH3 will end up having plenty of gems for the Modern community to ‘enjoy’ (or scream and whine about, as what tends to happen whenever a set shakes up modern).

Yes there will be some impact, like for every set, but nowhere near the impact previous mh had, especially in bringing forth brand new archetypes, and I can't help to think that using slots to reprint medaillions, Kaalia, Breya, Urza's incubator, etc... Won't be stranger to this conclusion. Don't get me wrong, mh2 had its issues because it warped the format around it so much it's now the centerpiece of everydeck strategy, but mh3 could have at least tried to offer new options. This set looks weak tbh

It's still just another garbage mtg set. With a ridiculous price.

If i had to guess, the final day of spoilers got neutered a little bc of what they had to emergency reveal due to leaks lol Also, as with all the cards you've deemed "commander reprints", Urza's incubator is gonna be insane in limited. Please remember the other half of the game exists 🥲

It was in dominaria remastered which was pretty recent.
