ouphe is pronounced as either "oof" with a long o sound or like the french "ouef" (uh-ff). It's an old word for a fey creature in germanic folklore and likely comes from the same root word as "elf". If you were a farmer from gaul who kept losing his shoes or whose children looked nothing like you, you would probably blame it on an ouphe. Or you would kill your neighbor. having ayula out is just so, damn scary. i mean let's just look at it this way: turn 1 mana plus ramp, turn 2 ayula plus land, turn 3 you have 4 mana, and used 4 cards and drawn 3. so a kamahl summons can make 5 bears for you, that's between 10 to 20 power on the board for 4 mana, on turn 3. and you can use those bears to kill the bears the rivals put up to boot!

Yeah, it's not so much about the -1/-1, it's a *free* sac outlet in the command zone, that also draws you cards. Kinda bonkers when you think about it. A free sac outlet for card draw has never been printed in mtg history. The fact that you have the manawise cheapest reusable proliferate ever printed as well is also slick. Heck with unearth, madness, and things like Bridge from Below, the discard and sac aspects become powerful advantages. Quite frankly, this guy could be scarier, or likely at least as scary, as Urza.

Ok nice video but you got something wrong about The first sliver's ability. It's ok though because the card itself is pretty confusing and I was wrong myself for a very long time until I finally found out how the card really works. Basicly if The first sliver's cascade causes you to cast another sliver, that sliver won't have cascade yet, which means that you can't cast multiple spells one after another. The explanation for that is pretty technical but I'll do my best. Cascade is a triggered ability that triggers when you cast a spell. Casting a spell is not the same as a card entering the battlefield. When you cast The First Sliver, it becomes a creature spell that goes on the stack {the limbo zone where spells hang out until they resolve or get countered). The Cascade ability triggers and ends up on top of the First Sliver spell on the stack. This means that the Cascade ability will resolve before the First Sliver. If you find another sliver off the Cascade trigger, it will become cast as a spell while the First Sliver is not yet on the battlefield. Since the ability that grants other Sliver spells Cascade only works if The First Sliver is on the battlefield, that other sliver spell won't get Cascade while The First Sliver is still on the stack waiting to enter the battlefield. I hope that makes sense, I just wanted to clarify this because I've seen a lot of people online assuming wrong things about the card. Sliver overlord is still the obvious choice for that.

Yeah. I think it is a great turn. I know in my meta people are guilty of bringing in a lot of tokens at once. I think this is a good safeguard if your deck isn't built to deal with stuff like that, or if you run a go wide deck and your opponent does too, sometimes you have to destroy your own board to stop someone and this helps you not have to rebuild also.

I don't know about that. It says "those tokens"and with divine visitation the original tokens don't exist. My understanding is that they are replaced with angel tokens. You can't sack tokens that you don't have.

It seems important to note that casting The First Sliver will only Cascade out one card. The First Sliver needs to be on the battlefield for other slivers to have Cascade, otherwise the Cascading cast happens before The First Sliver enters the battlefield.

A lot has been made of how good this set is for EDH, but I'm most excited about this set for Pauper. Tribal decks get changelings, Ninjas look awesome, lots of reprints including snow lands, toys for green ramp decks, good removal spells, good sideboard cards... all around one of the best Pauper sets we've seen in a while.

Sliver overlord is the best since you can Search your library for a Sliver card and put it into your hand so boom with morophon out all the 5 color slivers are free then just pull them all out and fun times

I agree. I play a sliver deck in EDH and tried the various 5 colour ones. With a heavy ramp theme the Overlord is the strongest. Get crystalline or harmonic first for a great board position. Often next turn starting with the creature-exiling one does the job.

Morophon does help a little with slivers because then with the colored mana reduction it makes the mana you need for a creature generic, so it really helps you if you need a budget mana base in five color. But that's if you're going budget, I do still know that the other wubrg sliver generals are more synergistic than Morophon, but I like that he's good for a budget in that way. Plus the Jodah, Fist of Suns thing. That's pretty neat too. That with the First Sliver?

At 33:00 they talk about Force of Negation filling the same "combo protecting" role as Force of Will, Pact of Negation, and Swan Song, but unless you're doing your combo at instant speed on someone else's turn the "not your turn" clause on Force of Negation prevents it from being used in that way, as it can only be cast for free on not your turn. This isn't a defend your own combo spell, this is a defend yourself FROM someone else's combo. I still think it sees play, it allows you to advance your own gameplan without holding up mana, is a little more flexible than Swan Song, and will be cheaper money-wise than Force of Will and maybe even settle lower than Pact of Negation.

If you have Doubling Season out before you level up Hexdrinker, the level up counters get doubled. That can make it pretty powerful, because instead of dumping a total of 9 mana into the creature to reach its final form, you only have to pay a total of 5 mana. Plus up until it’s final form, you can proliferate the counters on Hexdrinker for additional level up counters.

Deeply confused by anyone who thinks Generous Gift breaks the colour pie. White can have that effect. Green absolutely cannot; Beast Within is the colour pie breaker. And it makes a green Elephant because that's what colour elephant tokens are in the game, just like the black goblin making red goblin tokens. It's still a white elephant gift because the card is white, that's why they chose elephant for the token.

Just went nuts spending a months pay at Card Kingdom. Spent the last few days non-stop theorizing a deck list for a mono black Yawgmoth EDH (The 7 best planeswalkers in mono/black, counters-on-artifact synergies - everflowing chalice/coalition relic/Astral Cornucopia and things like tanglewire/smokestack. Infinite mana combos and some flavourful cards like phyrexian obliterator. Would be stronger in blue with Urza at the helm but I don't care). I got some big $ cards - Ugin, Metalworker, Grim Monolith, Yawgmoths Will, Karn, Ensnaring Bridge, Cabal coffers and Mana Drain for my Mimeoplasm deck. I used to have a lot of those cards, can't believe how much they have went up. I'm never letting go of them again! Can't wait to drop Yawgmoth's Will in my Yawgmoth deck.

I've got a meme commander deck in u/r for instants and sorceries, I think Aria of Flame would be great, because it works with Guttersnipe, Electromancer, Pyromancer's Assualt, and Arcane Melee. Keep pinging with instants and sorceries, get all of those effects, while also pinging with Aria, and you'll meet parity pretty quickly, and then keep on hitting for bigger and bigger numbers.

I like Ayula’s Influence in Gitrog Monster, Lord Windgrace, or Tatyova. It can be it’s own wincon with the amount of churning you do in those decks.

You can't really protect your wincon with Force of Negation for free if it's your turn. Which also applies to the red Force, it's not really a free lava axe because if you cast it on your opponents turn they are gone on your upkeep, so you don't get to attack with them.

If you replace Force of Rage's tokens with Divine Visitation's effect, the angels will still go away at the beginning of your next upkeep. The sacrifice delayed trigger is created by Force of Rage itself and isn't an ability on the tokens themselves, so Divine Visitation can't change that.

If you're looking for something like academy ruins...its Volrath's Stronghold. Same template and predates both academy ruins and the land that does the same for enchantments.

Wrenn and six is a card that I plan on testing in rug omenshift as well as splashing black for kess because I all the basis land searching in scapeshift decks means I can just add a swamp for the splash and 4 prismatic omen makes that even easier.

Am I missing something or are there a lot of cards they didn't cover? Like all the changelings, the vampire guy, and lots of others. Do they only review cards they think will impact commander? I'm a little confused.

It's a commander podcast. So they will only review cards that have relevance in Commander. They have always done it like this with their set reviews.

One of my favorite cards coming up is actually Throes of Chaos. I plan to run it in my Riku of Two Reflections. It'll be fun to have a way to still have a play if I'm flooding and I can even copy what comes out off the cascade if I have the relevant cards to do so. A lot of my deck is 3 or less CMC stuff and paying 4 during a turn where I may not otherwise have a move to get these out of my deck certainly isn't bad. I already run Unexpected Results anyway and Maelstrom Wanderer so I'm certainly not short of cards that can do stuff like this.

I’m still a little confused about the yawgmoth and grealfs messenger combo explanation, if I understand the cards correctly couldn’t you pay 1 life and sacrifice the messenger which would trigger undying and bring it back to the field and then put the -1/-1 counter on it from the yawgmoth trigger which would cancel out the +1/+1 counter allowing you to do it over and over again?

1:25:00 it actually can bring back creatures with POWER 1 or less, not CMC. Think it’s good in a +1/+1 Counter Deck because many creatures have base power and toughness 0/0 :)

Maybe it's a playgroup thing but in my store's meta Force of Despair is pretty strong, someone going crazy with Dream halls, people going off before combat to have a hasty alpha strike or doing a big set up of making a lot of tokens can immediately be undone right after...

There is one major factor that people don't realize that can make the first sliver very powerful. That is enlightened tutor and dovescape. You can cascade into enlightened tutor and then tutor for dovescape

Sword of Truth and Justice is a very narrow sword, but in the right deck it's possibly the best one. In a deck that wants to proliferate and has creatures you wouldn't mind equipping it to (Yawgmoth with Archfiend of Ifnir or an infect creature, Pir and Toothy on anything with trample, Atraxa on Atraxa) it's insanely valuable. Also the protections are good in a world where Swords to Plowshares and Anguished Unmaking are the best spot removal in the format.

Woth yawgmoth + hapatra it requires other creatures in the field. But with Yawgmoth + hapatra + nest of scarabs you get two creatures per counter, one to sacrifice and one to put the next counter on. Then you can try and draw into blood artist for the win
