travis brandt putting loyalty counters is a cost so it doesn’t help planeswalker get to their ultimates but if you get the walker there it will triple activate it

I just want to make sure that everyone is aware that repeated reverberation does not increase loyalty after the first planeswalker ability is activated. Loyalty counters are added or removed as part of the activation cost of the ability, they are not part of its effect.

"Are elemental decks really that powerful?" In my opinion, one of the most overlooked and underplayed commanders, and one of my personal fave decks I've ever built, is Horde of Notions. Elemental tribal is totally plausible, fun, and effective, and with all the new elemental support and badass elementals in this set, it's only getting stronger.

Prof’s Sephara brew actually seems pretty sweet. Focuses around token generation since there are actually a lot of cards that make flying tokens. Also the ability to cheat Sephara out makes her a much better commander than Avacyn in my opinion because there are tons of ways to exile in commander and once you have played avacyn once she becomes really hard to play again.

When talking about Vilis, you can go turn 1 entomb Vilis then turn 2 reanmimate Vilis and because of the way reanimate is worded you lose the life after the creature enters so you get to draw 8 and you get an 8/8 flyer. This can also be done on turn 1 with dark ritual.

Funny thing about Vilis is that if anyone plays any Nekusar-esque effects against you (even Ob-Nixilis Hate Twisted in standard), you just deck yourself due to his ability. It's pretty neat, and my friend and I thought about it like 5 minutes after the card was spoiled. But shenanigans aside, Vilis seems awesome, and I really liked a lot of the stuff from Core 2020. Polukranos and UF don't combo. You activate P's ability while UF is in play putting P's ability on the stack, the ability is copied because it contains X and is placed on the stack, the copied ability resolves and P gets X +1/+1 counters becoming monstrous, then the original ability resolves but cannot make P monstrous and so cannot add +1/+1 counters to it.

Since you guys were talking about Kykar a lot, I think Flame Sweep would be an excellent addition to Kykar. All the spirits you generate are flying so it avoids then, and it makes you an additional spirit on cast - you could also sacrifice three of your spirit flyers to pay for it at instant speed.

Repeated Reverberation -> you were talking about putting planeswalkers into ult range off one activation, but the way I read the card is likely that you would have two ability triggers on the stack, but you'd only gain the loyalty counters once since they are the cost of activating the ability. i.e. Teferi comes down with 4 loyalty, you cast Repeated Reverberation, you +1 Teferi, you draw two cards and untap 4 lands at end of turn, but he is at 5 loyalty not 6.

There's a nice little acronym for what protection does: DEBT. If the interaction question would Damage, Enchant, Block, or Target and the card in question has a relevant protection clause in the ability, it does not work. If it does not do one of those four things, the interaction does do work.

Omnath, locus of the roil is a great add to the temur color pie as a commander, in multiplayer you can chose a blink/combo deck, abusing the value engines of the temur color and using omnath only as a finisher(wincon in cmd zone), you can also play lands, with punishing fire (tatyova can't do it), can go full ramp, using the rg omnath as a powerful finisher and the new one as a draw engine, control, an archetype that we've never seen before in this colors(because the card advantage in omnath is going to grind the game long to exhaust your opponents resources). Well, this is just my opinion on omnath, locus of the roil, i think he can be much more than you guys said.

Something to remember about Omnath, is that it comes from Zendikar, which introduced the Awaken mechanic, turning lands into elementals. Seems like that's what its design is trying to point towards, pushing that quite a bit, as well as the manlands.

Notably, Sneak Attack’s sac and Rienne’s recovery are worded so that if you Sneak Attack with something, it will die *during* the end step and need to wait until the *next* turn’s to come back. So in the typical 4-player game you only get to drop these big ETBs twice per time around the table because the combo only fully resolves every other turn

Best card? I think, other than Flood of Tears, Lotus Field might just be the other option. That's also probably an even more straightforward way to ramp with Brought Back: float two white mana before playing the Lotus Field, bring back the two lands you sacrificed to play it, turn 4 hit your land drop and you untap with 6 mana. Or with anything that can untap your Lotus Field, even without Brought Back, you have 5 mana on turn 3 (float the two mana before sacrificing your lands, untap Lotus Field) and 7 mana on turn 4 if you hit your land drop, all ignoring any other mana rocks or dorks or whatever. That seems pretty good.

Small but important correction: Repeated Reverberation doesn't triple the amount of loyalty counters added or subtracted; those are treated as part of the cost, not the effect. You can't use it to get your Planeswalkers to an ultimate faster.

I looked up what the most popular commanders from this set were(in order): Golos, Yarok, Kykar, Omnath, and Gargos. Golos and Yarok are busted, Kykar has so many different ways to take him, Omnath is lands, and Gargos is hydra tribal(aka big beefy boys).

So i might be wrong about this, but i think that repeated reverberation (henceforth be known as RR) does not work for planeswalkers the way you guys described it. I really believe that when you cast RR, it will copy the next planeswalker ability, but i don't think it will increase the loyalty 2 extra times. What you guys describe is "I have nicol bolas on the battlefield, i cast RR, +3 bolas to 8 to destroy something, but then add two copies of that, so +3 to 11 to destroy something and +3 to 14 to destroy something, it all resolves, and 3 non creature permanents are destroyed while bolas sits at 14" what i think is really what would happen is: "I have nicol bolas on the battlefield, I cast RR, +3 to bolas to 8 to destroy something, and then i get to copy that ability 2 more times so now i get to destroy a total of 3 non creature permanents and he is sitting at 8" Again, i might be severely wrong about this, but i don't think that putting the two loyalty counters on him would be included in the ability itself. To give a bit of a comparison of what i mean, if you were to copy an activated ability (like with illusionist's bracers) then you would get the second activated ability added to the stack without paying the activation cost again. I am not for sure if +'ing a planeswalker ability counts as an activation cost or not, but i don't think the act of putting loyalty counters on a planeswalker would be included in the ability that doing so triggers. I put a lot of thought into this and i might be wrong, and if i am, well i guess i look dumb for everybody to see. Magic is a complicated game and one never stops learning, no matter how "good" one is. side note, RR would be pretty sweet with the +2 for the emblem chandra

I just want to add one more caveat to back up my statement. I noticed that even standard planeswalkers have a colon next to the "+" and before the actual ability. like for nicol bolas as an example from earlier. it has "+3: destroy target non creature permanent" this ( at least to me) highly suggest that the "+3" is the payment for the ability to trigger, "payment" here being "the act that you have to complete in order for the ability to be added to the stack." much like any activated ability of a creature, and when you copy an activated ability, you do not pay for the cost again, so i can only assume that when you copy a planeswalker ability, you do not "pay the cost" again (adding loyalty counters). I feel a bit stronger about this now honestly. If i am wrong, i would very much like to be known the correct way as to how this phenomenon would work.

I think that for the sneak/Rienne trick you need a sac outlet because if you sac at the beginning of the end step the timing for Rienne is gone so it's gonna happens on the next turn (see using Kiki-Jiki on end step)

pretty sure that with Rienne + sneak attack you have to wait until the next turn to get the creature back. Beginning of the end step tiggers once, so you sac to sneak then Rienne triggers but beginning of the end step has already happened, so you have to wait until the next end step to get the creature back.

The Elementals created by Chandra, Acolyte of Flame being sacrificed makes a difference to decks with death triggers. Something like Blood Artist or Diabolic Edict or Mayhem Devil in play means you will be getting 2 death triggers a turn in addition to 2 attackers.

Commander is First Sliver T1 Dark Ritual > Sorin -3 into Morophon, name Sliver > cast First Sliver > cast Sliver Legion cascade into Bonescythe Sliver into Blur Sliver into Muscle Sliver into Galerider Sliver All your creatures get +6/+6 doublestrike haste flying on turn 1. Cast another WUBRG Sliver for good measure.

Kykar _has_ to be from Amonkhet. No other plane has birds with human hands. Yarok is easy, it's from Zendikar. The Eldrazi consumed the energy of a piece of land and then someone animated it. Or maybe it was already alive when the Eldrazi attacked and it survived. No idea about Kethis tho.

Chandra, Awakened Inferno with an emblem or two and Sulfuric Vortex seems interesting (even Leyline of Combustion?). Maybe add in the damage doubling effects like Furnace of Rath? Commanders like Hazoret the Fervent or Purphoros, God of the Forge? Earthquake, Price of Progress, Comet Storm, Jaya's Immolation type cards? Seems like you could make a lot of friends this way.

1:10:45 I belive you are mistaken on how Repeated Reverberation works It does copy the PW's ability but the loyalty counters are part of that Ability's costs. You would resolve the ability x3 but only put the loyalty counters once

I don't think repeated reverberation copies the planeswalker's loyalty cost does it? Just the effect? If you use a +1, that's an ability activation cost so it would go up one loyalty but the effect would happen three times

Just a note, copying a loyalty ability does not increase the loyalty of the PW (aside of the new 3 mana chandra of course), since they are a cost not an effect (see Doubling Season).

Cavalier of night also goes infinite with a CMC 2-3 clone and a sac outlet. You clone the cavalier, then sac the clone to the outlet. The clone then brings itself back with the death trigger.

One time a dude had leyline of anticipation in his opening hand which he put into the battlefield, then he put Mana crypt onto the field, then a Mox (forgot which one). With his 3 Mana he then cast rhystic study. All before the game really started. It made my turn one Sol ring into signet look garbage

For the record, they seem to think Repeated Reverberation would allow a + ability to add more loyalty counters on a planeswalker; it doesn't work this way. The adding or removing of loyalty counters is a part of the cost of activating the PW ability, and RR doesn't make you pay the cost of copied spells. For example, If I have a Nicol-Bolas, Dragon God at 4 loyalty on the board and I play Repeated Reverberation, and then +1 Bolas, Bolas ticks up to 5 loyalty and RR copies the ability twice. After all the copies resolve, this leaves the board state with Bolas at 5 loyalty (not 7), me with 3 extra cards, and my opponent with 3 fewer permanents. Can't fault the guys for missing such a weird rule before the set came out, just a fyi : )

Don't forget: For Omnath, most of the time if you are animating your lands, they are elementals as well. A good piece in standard to combo with would be Sylvan Awakening

Would like to mention repeated reverberation only copies the abilities of the planeswalker abilities, you don't get 3 activations of them. So you will only + or - once and get 3 copies of the ability you activated.

Note on Ajani: if you have 15+ more life, you can activate him, flicker him, and he won't be exiled as he is now a different copy. Thus, Ajani plus any repeatable flicker effect is exile every artifact and creature your opponents control every turn. Ok, somebody will probably nuke it, but it is certainly worth considering in any deck that could meet those two conditions.

On Omnath, you actually DO want to make elementals after he is out. Because you have a ton of flicker/bounce effects due to the addition of blue. Dead eye navigator, Essence flux, even just blink of an eye to get him back to your hand to play again. Not to mention if he dies you just cast him again for 6 for an even bigger ping. Sure, it's obviously better to have them before he's there, but making them afterward is definitely fine (especially since you'd clearly run locus of rage with this deck as well). Omnath is actually my favorite new card in the entire set.

Interesting point of view about Golos: it can also serve as commander for heavily 3-colour / 4-colour BUDGET good stuff deck. As someone who plays often on budget, I know that it is hard if not impossible to build functioning 5-colour Mana Base (even 3 colours can be hard if you have cards with 3 mana symbols in them). You always run into the problem of being able to cast your commander even if you feature some colours more heavily then others. Golas doesn't have that problem and can actually fix your colours for you + provide you with a lot of value in his activated ability!

@Adam Miller Thanks but I use scryfall + EDHREC and am familiar with most lands. You missed the old filter lands couple of which can be bought for about a dollar in my country, bounce lands and you can always use green ramp to colour fix you. Yet all of them are not guaranteed to colour fix you + most of those lands enter tapped which can loose you the game in some spots (or put you really behind). Just last night I was playing and because of a tapped land was unable to crack burnished hart on one turn, which resulted in a loss since I wasnt able to play to cards I needed to survive later. This new commander allows you to neglect colour or two and greatly improve your mana base so you wont get into those spots.
