Thanks for having me, Kathleen, it's great to be here! Rather than a favorite draft set, the 'my boy' draft set for me has to be New Cappena. I feel like I am the only person who liked that format, but I appreciated it's speed+value style games, and how different three of the five three factions were. I thought I'd hate the Obscura decks, but in the end I enjoyed the fact that a 45~50 card monstrosity of a deck existed in that draft environment. Maybe I'm too lost in the sauce. I got a soft spot for Dominaria United. The variety of decks possible was absolutely wild. Sometimes you felt like drafting a Gxxxx domain deck, sometimes you had a Micromancer package (imagine that, a draft deck with a “package”), sometimes you got to build walls, and sometimes you played 4 heroic charges because the arena bots don’t know how good it is.

Present! One of my favourites was the new Kamigawa, Neon Dynasty! I drafted this a ton on Arena, and feel like I loved each one. My favourite deck was the RB artifact deck - I will be an oni-cult anvil stan for the rest of my days. But the UR artifact deck was also sweet, ninjas, GW enchantments, BW have-both-an-enchantment-and-artifact. I think the best aspect of Neon was the amount of overlap between all the archetypes. I know all sets try to do this, but in Neon pivots felt incredibly smooth. You could be drafting the start of a RB artifact deck, but get passed a Michiko's Reign of Truth and Intercessor's Arrest and you were easily into BW. But also equally plausible to pick up a few B artifact creatures and instead become UR. Fond memories

It was only on MTGO for ~2 weeks but tripple Dragon's Maze was hard to beat. 10 clue stones and all the over costed rares you could wish for. So much fun!

Brother’s War in my opinion will be loved for a really long time and it’s a number 1 for me. Strixhaven! In second place. A set that deserves more attention. I really loved the learn mechanic and making good use of what you drafted but left in the sideboard. The archive cards had a really awesome look and feel to them as well and the 5 colleges were well defined and flavorful. There were some three color pairings you could do as well by overlapping certain colleges. Also, the tokens in strixhaven make for such a cool hoard deck, if you’ve ever played that format 😄

My "your boy" format, keeping in mind I started in fire design so I've only drafted 1 of the mentioned sets, was Zendikar Rising. I was able to win so many different drafts on Arena with random color pairs that had no business winning. Red/Black, Blue/White, even Red/White all of which were built around the Party mechanic. I had a 5 color deck that did well, a Red/White Warriors deck that was completely different from Red/White party. There was a Blue/Red Wizards deck that I had a good draft of once, White/Green lands of course had a good attempt or two. My paper prerelease pack even had a killer Blue/Black deck but I didn't get to play with it due to circumstances. Heck, I even had a MonoBlack deck once that did better than it had any right to ever do. Not everyone had as great of an experience but that set really made me confident in my draft ability. I think I just liked that so many mechanics had use in any deck. Kicker of course goes anywhere, everyone plays lands so Landfall is a hit, and then with Party being the main idea of two opposite color pairs with a pair of green enablers it can also be anywhere. It was a set where the vanilla creatures had an actual place in my deck just because it was a green warrior on turn 3. And dam was it fun to cast an Ardent Electromancer into either another Ardent Electromancer or something even bigger as a payoff. I loved how nearly every card had a use, and an impactful one at that.

Zendikar Rising and Kamigawa Neon Dynasty were imo two last good standard set draft environments. Rest were varying degrees of overpowered rares, bonus sheet nonsense and turbo curveout

I recall hearing a lot about M10 and maybe played 1 draft, but 10th edition sticks in my head because it was heavily promoted with having a bunch of reprints of Legends from the Weatherlight Saga and the Odyssey/Onslaught story with new art. It was an interesting followup to Time Spiral because that also had a bunch of references to those characters and storylines.

One of the most fun draft I had was an OGW OGW BFZ draft I did. I honestly forget what theme I was drafting, all I remember was it was fairly low to the ground. In Pack 2, I opened and first picked Kozilek, thinking "Oh this will just be nice for my collection" But then in Pack 3, I opened Ulamog. At that point, I immediately decided it didn't matter how the draft went, if I didn't go into this gift I was given I would regret it. So I hard pivoted and started taking absolutely any type of ramp I could. I think I went 1-1-1, but I had absolutely zero regrets.

I want to like RNA so much, but the biggest issue with that set was the extremely few options for dealing with Enchantments, in a set with tons of powerful enchantments to be built around, like the infamous Ethereal Absolution. White had Expose to Daylight at common and Mortify at uncommon for Black/White, but for Green there was just two rares (Cindervine and Rampage of the Clans) and Sunder Shaman at uncommon and in Gruul only which also had to hit the opponent. I recall being at the prerelease and playing Simic, I had no Thought Collapses and no Frilled Mystics to hold up and just Quench, so my opponent was still able to resolve their enchantment by waiting long enough to pay for Quench.

Forced Fruition was one of my favorite sleeper cards to draft in Wilds of Eldraine. It seemed silly to run because it gives your opponents card draw, but if your opponent couldn't stop/remove it immediately it would put them on a clock where they needed to win on board or they would have 2-3 spells they could play before they decked themselves.

I also liked Avacyn Restored. It was the angels set, and I liked that. I was just getting into drafting around that time. I made some horrible draft decks and lost a lot, but I had a good time doing it. All of Innistrad block was a great time, honestly. I also have a soft spot for OGW because that's the first time I got my wife to draft Magic with me, and we teamed up for the 2HG pre-release.

My favorite draft format of all time was and always be triple original Theros. Nessian Asp and Wingsteed Rider my beloveds. Special shoutouts to Anax and Cymede who carried me through multiple undefeated drafts

My picks RIX-RIX-XLN - started playing when this was just coming out, the assymetry of the typal synergies made 3XLN kinda weird, but the additions from RIX made that a lot more interesting, the themes for the non-typal colour pairs really glued the set together. STX - It's weird that a set with only 4 of the 5 supported colour pairs playable is all that good, but splashing being very doable and some of the allied colour combinations being secret achetypes, Lessons were a really interesting mechanic for draft, and both cards in library and life totals mattered in a lot of games. NEO - Neon Dynasty was for the degenerates, it was a very high skill expression set with Ninjitsu several combos, synergy packages, every deck felt like it was playing on a different axis. M19 - Kind of had a similar vibe to M15 where there was a tokens deck at the head of the pack with Heroic Reinforcements counteracted by Plague Mare, though unlike especially M10 the rares weren't all powerful meaning the format overall was a little less bomby. KHM - This was the set I first really went infinite on Arena with

I have a soft spot for Amonkhet. I've always preferred an aggro strategy, and there was a string of 6 weeks or so where every weekend, I'd go the local store, draft Amonkhet, go Red/White and win packs.

Avacyn Restored was actually my worst pre-release ever. I opened 8 creatures total, with two of them being the green creature that can't attack or block unless it was soulbound. No soulbound creatures in the 8. My deck was a Naya combat trick deck where I pumped my opponent's creatures to lose faster. My best game that night was one shotting an opponent who did not block my Mad Prophet, who I made have 28 power with three pump spells and Wild Defiance. My favorite draft set was definitely 3x Innistrad. Great removal, great archetypes, so many good bombs. I drafted it many times with friends and in tourney settings.

This was like a Punt/Counterpunt for sets, but actually a serious discussion. My soft spot is drafting DKA-DKA-ISD (the proper way is only 1 pack of DKA) and beating the tar out of my older brothers. That's what made me a Limited player.

Maybe this is a controversial opinion, but I really liked ONE. It was a really fast and somewhat linear format, but the great thing about that is that it always felt like I knew exactly what I was doing. Curving out in the W/B toxic deck just felt soooo good!
