My biggest problem is I get emotionally attached to my fabric. I am now emotionally attached to what will be a shirt, that I haven't even bought yet. That's not an extra ¼" that's an extra ½" and a little bit of weight to keep the wind from blowing it up. Totally worth it. That is very nice, it literally took my breath away.

You're production values just keep getting better and better each video, it's really impressive and your hard work shows! That colour linen is stunning, and having a matching outfit should you so desire it is enviable. Marvelous work, it all looks great! I'm so glad you used this TV pattern. I've been thinking about it for a while, but just couldn't get a good mental picture of how the dropped shoulders would look from the old fashion plates. Lovely outfit! I think I hear another Costube challenge approaching. "What can you do with 1.5 yards/meters of fabric?" It just so happens that I just bought a 1.5 yard remnant of white, fine cotton, embroidered fabric. 1 edge has scallops running down the length. There are bands of swirls interspersed with rows of textured stripes that look like tiny pintucks. It just screams Edwardian so I had to give it a home just... because. I've been wondering all day what on Earth I'm going to do with this little piece of fabric. Now after this video I'm really psyched. Even little bits of wonderful fabrics deserve to be made into something beautiful.

If I may make a small suggestion; consider pre-washing and ironing your fabric before cutting out the pattern pieces. Especially with linnen, which is prone to shrink a lot the first time you wash it. It would be a shame if after all the hard work you put into it, it would shrink so much the first time you wash it that it doesn't fit anymore.
@KathrynsRavens3 жыл бұрын
I was about to say the same thing! Cotton and linen are so bad for shrinking. I love this linen and want some too!
@dcinrb85383 жыл бұрын
Before washing cotton fabrics, I clip small pieces off each corner. I also remove the fabric from the dryer while still just a bit damp in order to iron it. My SILs think my ironing the tissue pattern is extreme. I think their drafting a full size pattern from a 4 inch graph in a book is insane. 🍄🍄
@jomcmahon81153 жыл бұрын
I agree with the comments re washing and ironing, no matter what the fabric.

@@CatsCostumery Ooh! That's good to hear! I was worried the blouse might not fit you anymore after the first wash, especially since you loved it so much, but apparently I worried for nothing. And please, do show it (even if it's only once in a while) in your videos. Lot's of (beginning) seamstresses could learn from that :-) Please keep up the good work! I was so excited you did a linen garibaldi blouse. I found your channel when I was specifically looking for help with that truly Victorian pattern (I’m a visual learner) and from the beginning I’ve had a linen picked out at my local historical fabric store. You looked too lovely in each of your blouse/skirt combinations for me to choose a favourite. I’m with you; linen is the most wonderful fabric to wear. I live on the Texas Gulf coast where we have two seasons-hot and humid or hotter and humid so I’m happy to see that the rest of the world is beginning to understand my long standing love affaire with linen. All one needs is a good iron until the fabric has been washed enough to obtain the softness we love so much without needing to be ironed.
