To me it’s obvious why Activision ordered the cease & desist. They’re scared of a small group of modders being able to do a better job than their own multi-billion dollar company with thousands of developers & near unlimited assets. All the H2M team wanted was to provide a fun, modern take on a game we all adored growing up. By the looks of it, they absolutely did just that. And they didn’t get a dime for doing so. The worst part of it all is that Activision deliberately put the game on sale to drive hype for the mod releasing. Well they kinda did, XDefiant was doing great. But after a while the hype kinda died down cause everyone thought since it was F2P it wasn't gonna be good. The other issue is... CoD has too big of a playerbase for someone else to create a brand new community from the ground up. As Jev said in one of his older XDefiant videos, "The only thing that will ever kill CoD, is CoD". A class action lawsuit needs to be brought is all I’m saying. Activision needs to be reprimanded in the way they’ll actually care about, financially. It would probably result in Activision just taking down every call of duty but the newest, but that would most likely hurt them anyway because it would make it more obvious to customers that Activision will not support their purchase after 2 years and ultimately doesn’t care about you.

They went about this the wrong way.. very disappointing. You can see how many people were excited to play this game, it’s the most active I’ve seen the COD community in a very long time. I’m sure if they bought out the modding company and charged us for it - people would buy it (if money was the issue). I personally would pay money to play this mod if I had to, money isn’t the issue here. They have missed the fact for the last 10 years + that all we really want is a basic call of duty, just like the old days when cod was actually enjoyable to play. If they were smart you’d think they’d try and capitalise on the opportunity to make something that the community loves again.

as a person well versed in the modding community please do not play the steam versions of the older call of dutys, it is filled with RCE exploits (remote code execution) people can really fuck up your pc and possibly worse. These problems exist in mw2, mw3, bo2, bo3, ghosts and mwr. they falsely advertised that they fixed the issue on mw2 which is funny because a modder actually DID fix the RCE issues, they got in trouble and Activision reverted what they did and pushed out their own version of the patch, while pushing out that patch introduced a new RCE vulnerability. not only are they no fun but are completely and utterly incompetent at securing anything. fun fact in bo3 (now fixed) they INTENTIONALLY left in a backdoor access to anyone who played the game and modders had access to abuse it. there was supposed to be a lawsuit for it but it got swept under the rug, this is the kind of company we are buying games from

This doesn't work on call of duty unless it's really bad, like infinite warfare at launch. It's a gaming staple for 30 million people every year. The only way is content creator strikes(they drive sales), but they need to make money, too, so doubt any creators would. Look at the trailer for bo6. I feel like this isnt even legal. Putting a game on sale, allowing ppl to play enough to not be able to refund it, and then shutting it down a day before release has to be illegal. They literally manipulated ppl into buying a product under a false promise, with the full intention of shutting it down right before it releases, and the cherry on top is they waited until ppl couldnt get a refund. I feel like there's a solid case to make that that shit is illegal and business malpractice or some shit like that

H2M wasn't a very popular/public thing until just now. The H2M devs are just like the SM2 devs, and did not learn from SM2. Firstly, mod clients are fine. Activision didn't hit plutonium because it was free and just added things to bo2 and nothing else. H2M seemed to be paid (Which was never going to work because you're selling assets of MW2R which is PAID instead of just making your own assets which is fine) and reused assets from a paid game. They literally didn't have to take it down if they just didn't do that. Screw acti and screw the h2m devs

Selling games that have known exploits in them COULD be, and most definately should be illegal. Steam should honestly remove the older games with known exploits from the store.
