I think both the original and remastered versions are extremely effective in what they convey. The original had that blood red tinge that was foreboding and the sense of being alone as the world around you crumbles. The remastered version shows the pure destructiveness of the nuke and the horror that was unleashed. Seeing the pilot that you risked your life for choke to death in front of you was horrifying and the cloud looked hauntingly beautiful.

The original might even be more accurate since there would be a thick layer of particulate and dust from the amount of buildings and dirt that would be blown to bits and shot outwards from the blast.

@@woodhidh At the radius they were during/after the blast, they were pretty much All choking to death, or going to, since the nuke sucks all of the oxygen out of the atmosphere surrounding it. "Do you know what a nuclear bomb looks like up close, Ernie? It's like looking at the light of a thousand dead stars vaporizing everything and everyone, those who are unfortunate enough to cross it's path. Look away from the initial flash, and you can almost convince yourself that a cloud has pass through the sun bringing sunlight back into the world, that optimism will soon shatter you once you start to hear the deafening, glass shattering explosion, destroying everything in it's path. When the sound fades, and if you are lucky enough to keep your vision for these last few moments, you can see the fiery portal to hell, releasing 1000's of tiny imps falling from the crimson sky, covering the demolished terrain into untouchable objects. As I stared into the portal of hell, I wondered how I survived, I was badly wounded, yet wondered how my body was being pierced by the gamma radiation, being badly wounded by the helicopter crash, the intense heat which felt like my blood was boiling, but none of that bothered me, I watched as my men and women in arms succumb to their untimely demise, that didn't bother me. I was found by a rescue team and brought me back to a nearby military base to treat my wounds. They told me that I would have between now and 15 years maximum to live due to the extreme radiation sickness, in the end, it wasn't the bomb, the people, the silence, nor the destruction that haunts me, Ernie, What haunts me the most, was mankind going out of it's way to open up the gates of hell itself to fight their wars for them. It was greed, Ernie, it was greed." -Pvt Burt.

This has to be one of the Most Horrific and devastating scenes in Gaming History. Leaving the scene just in time to avoid getting vaporized at ground zero, but close enough to watch the bomb go off, as the shockwave decimates everything in its path heading straight for you......you realize it’s too late. You exit the Chopper thinking that maybe there is a chance you’ll make it out alive, only to have that hope sucked out of you when you see the mushroom cloud and crawl to your inevitable Death.

It's genius because it's a deconstruction of video game/action movie heroism. You got these amazing guys who take extreme risks to save lives. The Marines don't care about the risk to themselves, no man or women left behind is the motto. They charged right into the danger zone because they got guts. And then they die because of it.

The remastered version is great but could have been better. Notice the way Jackson puts his hand in front of him when the nuke goes off, it shows no emotion, and the man is looking at a nuclear bomb. Metro's first person animations always show the emotions of the main character, for example. Also, when you fall from the crashed helicopter in the original game the screen got blurry for a while while here you get some damage and that's it. Also when the helicopter is spinning and the nuke has gone off you can see some intact buildings out of the helicopter, they should be destroyed or falling or there should be smoke everywhere. I know I'm nitpicking but this is the best perspective of a nuke going off in gaming, the remaster could have made it even better than this.
@Ean151005 жыл бұрын
@@peoduction6068 True that there may have been some details that are overlooked in the remastered version. But overall it is better than the original version in terms of visual wise. Not that common. As someone who served alongside the Americans in Afghanistan, many of them scream and cry, pray to God and even soil and piss themselves. Some go outright crazy and put everyone else in danger. Sad to witness. That reality doesn't make it into games and movies though as it doesn't make anyone look cool. Not great for propaganda.
@Tenchigo1008 жыл бұрын
That's fucking horseshit. We need to prevent wars, not make people think they're cool. I highly doubt people who are in them love killing and feeling like they're going to die at any moment or coming back home with PTSD.

You guys don't realize just how close they were to getting out of there alive. The guaranteed death zone of a nuke is about a 5 mile radius from the blast, the 3rd degree burns, little chance of survival zone goes out to about an 8 mile radius, further out than that you have a decent chance of surviving the blast itself (not including falling debris, radiation, etc.). I'd guess they were about 6 miles out when the nuke detonated, and considering Sea Knight helicopters have a top speed of 165mph, they could have survived if they had another 30 seconds or so of flight time.
@colbywarren43647 жыл бұрын
the blast radius was 7.6 miles according to the radio from the helicopter but yes if they left the pilot behind they would have probably survived

@blookeeng85497 жыл бұрын
Bluefire HD What? No, 30,000 people were not the cost of saving Pelayo. Only the 13 men who were on the Sea Knight, and we only assume they would have been at a safe distance. Plus, there were still other units trying to evacuate but didn't make it out. If you looked at the scene you would see the other Sea Knights and Cobras were still a distance behind Jackson's ride. Had Jackson's unit not saved Pelayo, there still would've been massive casualties with the Marines.

No Russian was the last time the shock value actually had merit to the story....MW3 cheapened it with the little girl car bomb felt tacked on imo

Can't say I like this remaster. The original scene had a much creepier atmosphere imo, with the heavy red tint in the air and the fact that you were the only survivor, completely alone in that wasteland for those few minutes.

The realism in this part, shit actually the whole game, is crazy good. They definitely did their research on military tactics and lingo. Just little things like "Jake give me max power" are spot on (instructing the copilot to hit the throttle because the pilot is too busy maneuvering out of fire). So cool.

Yeah, Infinity Ward does a good job with their games. I've never played this version but I remember on the original game, just seeing that nuke was incredible. I remember Lt. Volker (the soldier Sgt. Jackson tries to save before he flies out of the chopper) was pressed up against the wall of the helicopter because of the centrifugal force. He tries to make his way inward but flies out. I like how on this version they show Sgt. Jackson jump toward Lt. Volker in an attempt to save him. Always thought this was one of the saddest parts in Call of Duty history. It marked the first time that a character you played, actually dies. A lot of people were thrown off by that. I know I was a bit.

This game isn't supposed to be military simulation tho. About the realism part of the Nuke scene, oh c'mon gamma radiation would kill him in milliseconds. But that's just a game.
@android1756 жыл бұрын
Donald dollar Trump radiation does not kill in milliseconds. If you noticed in the cutscene, they were out of the range of the immediate explosion. The damage came from shockwaves and radiation. Hiroshima people did not die instantly from radiation.

@DIO Brando Well dying in a nuclear blast in the middle of a war you're not supposed to fight in isn't exactly comforting and the game's presentation already evokes imagery relevant to the Iraq Wars
@neojournalyst4 жыл бұрын
Bob - Dorime Master Thank you for that my friend! I did enjoy this game and I can’t exactly say I TRULY have PTSD. I don’t know about that. But there came a point when this game actually did bother me. It’s a lot more realistic than one might think. I can say that because I served in Iraq. That was no BS. Of course a video game doesn’t really tell the story because there are things like the smell of burning meat, comrades losing their shit, little ones caught in the crossfire, even things like guys getting letters (emails) from their wives or girlfriends informing them that they are leaving them for Jamal because he has a bigger dick. War is tough and a video game can’t replicate that. My my hat does go off to these game designers because they got a number of things very spot on. Obviously they had some very good military advisors. Because the game did become uncomfortable to me. Not so much the violence ...but the thing that bothered me the most was the way the characters communicated with each other. They had the lingo dead on. And I think maybe some of hearing that might have brought up a memory that bothered me enough to turn the game off. I’m not saying these games shouldn’t exist. Just saying that as a guy who has been there ...that game is disturbingly close to what it was like. Some of those levels or missions were actually based on real battles that occurred. Such as the bridge scene and the school firefight. That’s when the game started getting a little spooky to me.
@neojournalyst4 жыл бұрын
Yayo' Ariowibowo Well put. I’m certainly a veteran of the Iraq war and yes, I signed up as a young man who was not only naive but financially screwed for life. So yeah, I joined up to change my situation. But it was after being there when I realized I had gotten myself into a real shit storm. People can call me a baby killer or whatever. Keep in mind that if you are going to criticize someone who you think is capable of killing babies, you might want to be on guard. You just might find your world turns fucky. Not saying you’re saying that to me. Just saying that I understand the criticism of the war and the naïveté of those of us who participated in it. But the game really is disturbingly realistic.
@neojournalyst4 жыл бұрын
Bob - Dorime Master I really did experience the whole “baby killer” thing. That was mostly ta Vietnam Era thing but some dipstick in a grocery store saw me in uniform and called me a baby killer. He was just a young kid who didn’t seem like his balls had dropped yet so I didn’t make a big deal out of it. But I said “Let me ask you something ...you think I am a trained killer who is so EVIL that I’m capable of killing infants. Wouldn’t a person like that be really dangerous?” He sort of agreed with me, not sure where I was going with it. But he sort of backed up what he said but I could see the little wheels in his little mind starting to turn. So I asked “So how wise do you think it is to find a person who is so evil that he would kill babies - and you go and talk shit to them? How smart does that sound to you?” He actually got my point and realized I was a human being and not some prop in his mind. I think might have peed a little however. A few weeks later I saw him while I was in civilian clothes shopping in the grocery store with my wife. I just pointed at him and said “How you doing Tiger” ...giving him the pointy-shooty finger and thumb. He just said “I’m good sir.” Just a misguided kid who was on his way to figuring out he doesn’t know everything. But it is one of my fondest memories of serving. That and peeing on a German police car and spending a night in jail for it.
@neojournalyst4 жыл бұрын
Bob7296 Hahaha. I left a pub in Germany shortly after arriving in Germany as a young Private. I needed to take a whiz so I found a hidden spot behind a minivan. I was basically peeing on the tires when the slinging door opened up. It was a police van. Conveniently enough it was the ‘mobile drunk tank.’ Public urination in Germany wasn’t against the law. It’s that I was doing it on the tire of a police van that got me in trouble. I had to pay a small fine and that was that.
