THANK YOU BILLY FOR SHARING SOME OF THE MOST HUMBLING PARTS OF YOUR LIFE AND YOUR WALK, IN CHRIST! I TOO WAS FILLED WITH EGO AND PRIDE AS A PAINTING CONTRACTOR IN MICHIGAN. I STARTED THE COMPANY IN 1993 AND WITHIN 2 YEARS I HAD BECOME ONE OF THE LARGEST PAINTING CONTRACTORS IN THE COUNTY. I WAS A GOOD PAINTER AND A GOOD BUSINESSMAN AND WITH MY ABILITY TO CONVERSE WITH PEOPLE I HAD BECOME QUITE SUCCESSFUL. I WAS BOASTFUL AND FULL OF PRIDE. THEN ON AUGUST 2ND, 2007 I FELL OFF AN AIRPLANE HANGAR WHILE PAINTING THE ROOF. WHILE ON THE GROUND ""SQUIRMING LIKE A FISH OUT OF WATER" I WAS LED TO RECITE THE ""LORD'S PRAYER"" OUT LOUD!! I HAD CRUSHED BOTH HEELS AND DROVE THE HEEL BONES (CALCANEAL) 2" UP TOWARD MY ANKLES IN BOTH FEET! THE TRAUMA SURGEON AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN HOSPITAL, ANN ARBOR TOLD ME THAT I HAD COMPLETELY DESTROYED MY HEELS AND THAT THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO CARTILEDGE LEFT BETWEEN THE BONES. THAT IT WAS PULVERIZED AND "BLOWN OUT" BETWEEN ALL THE BONES. THAT I HAD BETWEEN A 3-5% CHANCE OF EVER WALKING AGAIN! THAT IT WAS GOING TO TAKE NUMEROUS SURGERIES TO EVEN HAVE A CHANCE OF THAT. IT WAS AT THIS TIME THAT I TURNED MY LIFE BACK OVER TO GOD!! OVER THE FOLLOWING 10 MONTHS I WAS IN A WHEELCHAIR, IN MY HOME, I HAD TO CRAWL FROM ROOM TO ROOM AS THE WHEELCHAIR WOULDN'T FIT BETWEEN THE DOORWAYS. AFTER 8 MONTHS I HAD TO "LEARN" HOW TO WALK AGAIN BY BEING LOWERED INTO A POOL WITH A CRANE AND WITH 2 PHYSICAL THERAPISTS (ONE ON EACH SIDE) AND FLOTATION DEVICES AND A LIFEJACKET. IT TOOK 3X'S A WEEK FOR 2 MONTHS TO LEARN TO WALK AGAIN!! FOR THE NEXT 2 1/2 YEARS I COULD NOT WEAR SHOES AND WORE AIRCAST BOOTS ON BOTH FEET. I RETURNED TO GOING TO CHURCH AND PRAYING CONSTANTLY THROUGHOUT THE DAY. NEEDLESS TO SAY, MY PAINTING DAYS WERE OVER!! AFTER 9 SURGERIES AND 3 BONE FUSIONS OVER THE COURSE OF 7 YEARS I FINALLY COULD WALK WITH SHOES ON AGAIN. PRIDE IS A DEBILITATING DISEASE, IN WHICH IF NOT PUT IN CHECK AND HUMBLED, WILL DESTROY YOU IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. I THANK GOD EVERY DAY FOR EVERY SINGLE STEP I TAKE!!! I THANK GOD FOR HUMBLING ME AND BRINGING ME BACK IN-LINE WITH HIS WORD AND GIVING ME THE MERCY THAT I SURELY DIDN'T DESERVE!! IT IS BY HIS GRACE ALONE THAT MY SPIRIT WAS HEALED OF THIS PRIDE. I THANK GOD ((NOW THIS WILL SOUND CRAZY)) FOR ME FALLING OFF THAT ROOF THAT DAY!! IF IT WERE'NT FOR THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN THE PATH BACK TO PRAISING AND GLORIFYING HIS HOLY NAME. GOD SAVED MY LIFE THAT DAY, AND IT IS MY DUTY TO USE MY TESTIMONY TO BRING OTHERS TO CHRIST. OVER THE YEARS, GOD HAS ""SAVED"" MY LIFE AND I MEAN ""LITERALLY SAVED ME FROM DEATH"" AT LEAST 6 OTHER TIMES!!! I THANK YOU BILLY FOR YOUR TESTIMONY, AND FOR YOUR WILLINGNESS TO PROCLAIM GOD'S WORD TO EVERYONE!! MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU 70 X 7 FOR THIS! YOUR ""FIRESIDE CHATS"" I FEEL IS GOD LED, AND WILL BRING MANY PEOPLE TO FOLLOW CHRIST! PRAISE GOD, AND MAY HIS OMNISCIENT LIGHT AND LOVE SURROUND YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! :)

Thank you for these wonderful devotions. As a recovering alcoholic, 10 years sober, you were telling my story. Pride and ego is what kept me from excepting the reality that everyone around me saw. That lead to self pity that caused more drinking. Finally excepting that “thorn in my side” I was able to understand that the Lord’s Grace and Mercy is sufficient for me and my life has been blessed beyond my wildest dreams. I continue to for the Johnson family and the Molls family. God Bless you Billy. Go Pack Go

Hi Billy I am 64 started trapping before I could hunt couldn't tell an ermine from a mink. Live in Maine and always wanted to go to Alaska but the furthest west I got was the U.P. Thanks for all your adventures, they remind me of several bad situations I have been in and God's mercy that we are still here to proclaim His name. Thanks for your mission to share Gods word and I would encourage all believers to strengthen you faith by digging deep into truth. Learn Gods word with help from commentaries like John MacArthur, understand the defense of creation vs evolution, learn historical evidence that supports biblical accounts like the flood, Bethlehem star, Mt. Sini, and the end times. And pray that God will keep the faith strong in us, our brothers, and our loved ones as we see the times of this age deteriorate in un-Godliness. May God bless.

Thanks Billy, ego and self pity, two sides of the same coin. Again very thought provoking and a tap on the shoulder to remind me to learn from my mistakes, accept the grace and mercy offered by others (sometimes, or more importantly especially, from people I may have wronged) and make sure that I can maybe be a better person and be more like the people offering grace and mercy.

Great program! Billy you are a great upstanding guy! I love your programs I used to hunt but fishing was my passion. I Have almost the same experience with fishing/nature. But God found me in my own bed after a longer time of depression. I did all that I wanted for a long time, I had my own fishing bussines, writing books about same issue and so forth. Life suddenly lost its meaning. There was nothing more to live for. Once Jesus Christ came with the wholy Ghost in my hart. Life got meaning and I still working within the same subbject. It is delightful to follow Jesus our creator lord and savior. Amen! Vidar Numme, Norway

Good stuff, and a good lesson to learn! I think all of us face this. We've done something for a while and gotten pretty good at it, whatever it is. We get used to having success. We get a little prideful and start taking things for granted. Then the Lord withdraws His hand for just a moment and things fall apart. I had a similar thing happen to me, and it felt like my whole world came crashing down. My pride had blinded me and I made a stupid mistake. At the time it felt like the floor had been jerked out from under my feet and I was dangling in the air with nothing to stand on. I went from being strong and confident to feeling completely helpless. The only way to get through it is turning back to God. We have to remember we are totally dependent on Him for every breath, for every heartbeat! A great book I could recommend is David Ravenhill's "Surviving the Anointing". I like to pull it out and re-read it every once in a while. It really helps me to keep things in perspective. Bless you brother!

Thanks Billy for another great message. It seems all of us men have a struggle with pride/ego. It's hard to fully understand God's mercy and grace but having experienced it from other humans makes it easier. I love the way you weave your experiences as a guide into a message from God's Word. I am praying for you, your family and Don Johnson's family.

When you’re your own worst critic people don’t understand that the punishment we put ourselves through is worse than anything the law, fines or punishment they or the State can convict us of! Because of your character I can still tell this mistake is always in the back of your mind and it’s what keeps you from ever giving the order to shoot without being 100% confident the animal is legal. The hardest forgiveness I’ve faced is my own, or the forgiveness of myself because I was the only one who knew exactly what I’d done and exactly how it made me feel, they don’t call it reborn for nothing because without us being reborn in Christ I don’t believe we’d ever be able to forgive ourselves. Thanks for the message, stay humble and keep the messages coming, can’t wait for the next one God Bless!!!

Thank you Billy, I know what the fall that is caused by ego and pride feels like. I had to lose everything to appreciate what I had before. To appreciate my wife and children. It also taught me who my true friends were. The great old adage of 'When times are dark friends are few" really resonated with me during that time. One has to go through these God sent lessons to learned and recapture our faith when we push him out of our own lives to make way for our ego's and pride. God bless and continue to be with Don in his struggles and keep him free of pain and suffering. Billy thank you once again for a wonderful fellowship may God continue to bless you and your family as well and may he continue to use you to keep the fires of faith burning within us. Take care regards Bart.
