Thank you for the story of St. Lucia. I had not heard the part of wearing the wreath of candles on her head so she could see to talk food to those hiding in the catacombs.

So lovely, Jacob! Your song brought back many happy memories of making the Lussekatter and my young daughters dressing up as Lucias and serving us breakfast! Now we play our Swedish Christmas recordings and dance around a little when we're decorating the tree.🌟🎄🌟

Wonderful Jacob. We celebrate the tradition of Santa Lucia every December in our parish church. It is an annual fundraiser benefitting the San Francisco/Marin Food Bank. It's always a joy to see the girls in their white dresses, and to hear the traditional songs. I am enjoying my advent box, and all your accompanying videos. The music is a true delight. Thank-you so much for your time and creativity. ❣

My granddaughter has participated in Santa Lucia processions since she was four years old. This year at age 20 she was the one who wore the candles! My daughter in law is Swedish and it has always been part of their Christmas traditions. Thanks so much for all the interesting stories!

I just said it it Santa Lucia to my husband this morning. When we lived in Sweden I learned to make saffron buns. I continued to do so for years and then stopped. Don't really know why. They are delicious. This brought back memories for me this morning. Thank you Jacob. 🕯

This video brought back a vivid memory of my older sister as Santa Lucia in a procession at church. I was terrified that her hair was going to catch on fire😂 I just could not understand why anyone would wear lighted candles on their head. Now I know the origin. Thanks for sharing the story of Santa Lucia❤️

Always another great, interesting video, and great music. Trying to keep up with the SAL, a few days behind but I’m making progress. I’m doing mine monochromatic with Falu Red from Roxy Floss Co. I still follow the daily stitching even though I’m just using one color.

Thank you! Oh lovely! The pattern will be released on the 1st as a 2-tone design - but it works really well in 1 colour too, and that's how I might stitch my own version, for my red sampler wall (with Falu Red too!).

I came here too check if you would cover my favourite Advent holiday. :) Although I were never allowed to be Lucia in school, not pretty enough and not tall enough, as someone decided the tallest girl got to be Lucia. Probably to stop the "beauty contest" part of choosing Lucia that many schools embrace. The songs (and concerts) are a big part of my love of this holiday. The story I learnt included St Lucias eyes getting gouged out. Always interesting how "christian cultural appropriation" changed our culture. :)
@ModernFolkEmbroidery2 күн бұрын
Oh yes - it's a little bit weird the "miss Lucia" contest that isn't but kinda is... 😂. I pondered if I should mention the eyes thing and decided against it as it's the teeniest bit gruesome :P. I do love the paintings of Lucia though - there's some beautiful and creative ways artists have interpreted the miracle of the eyes. My favourite is one where she is holding a "flower" but instead of flowers / leaves, it sprouts two eyes...!
