Nobody died, nobody left. The affair is still ongoing and has been ongoing for 2 years, but the man comes and goes whenever he pleases, leaving her utterly distraught and sick to the core. She knows the love is killing her and says if it continues she will eventually die alone. Although he comes to her, she feels alone even when he is sleeping next to her. She feels completely used, a nobody, with nothing left of her life. I know what she is singing about because it happened to me many years ago. Even if you have never experienced it, you can get what she is singing about. This is not her song but she has totally made it hers. At the end she trembles, still in the moment for minutes afterwards. This is 'method singing' at it's best, and it hurts her deeply, you can see it. Can't say any more than that. She grips your heart when she sings this. My God.

Bob, a true prodigy who was "discovered" as having the potential to be a great, great singer in the back seat of her father's car when she burst out in song and her father had to pull over to listen. This particular Concert ( 1999-2000 time period) was filled with a ton of great music and the people in the audience at the conclusion of this song stood up as one and wildly applauded Lara. I wish you would have played the video in it's entirety because while they were giving her a standing ovation Lara remained very still on stage trying to gather herself, to get herself out of the song. What a breathtaking performance by Lara and you were so right to point out the highlight of the song was not the music, nor the sad lyrics, but rather her emotional delivery and the phenomenal ending. “Je suis Malade” was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, but a few months after, Dalida covered it and brought it to fame. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet. They became good friends. Lara has made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power and Serge Lama adopted these in his later interpretations. This 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries. The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.

Great to see you have discovered Lara. She is way WAY up there with a VERY small handful of 'the best of the best' female vocalists of all time. Professional singers, of all stripes, regard each and every one of Lara's performances as Master Classes. No-one does love & loss with the nuance, sensitivity and sheer emotional power of Lara. Lara is a word painter, and master craft story-teller where, with micro-intentionality, she fully 'inhabits' the lyric, and brings her audience along with each note and - as you observed - every pause and breath between. [ * Highly recommend you see her ' Broken Vow' and also the best version ever performed, by any-one, anywhere, any time { in my humble opinion! } of ' Caruso' - and so much more. ] Lara is a great songwriter as well as vocalist, but this is her version, of another's; Serge Lama, who was, allegedly, referencing his despair at a hopeless love affair he conducted with a married woman. { So the story goes; the woman eventually did leave that marriage and they did get together, but it didn't last. Another of life's little ironies. Be careful what you wish for ! } Enjoy.

One correction about Serge Lama story: Serge and Michelle met in 1969, he wrote Je suis Malade in 1973, she shortly after broke with her husband et joined Serge, they got married in 1981 and had a son one year after and they were married until her death in 2016. So about 30 years living together.

Ok, finally someone who gets it.. or shares my opinion. Without the overreacting Wooow and fake shock. I know Lara for say ... a while now. About 6 years ago she had a concert in my country, but we couldn't go (life gets shitty pretty often), and I will probably regret that forever. I am honestly jealous so much of the people who were lucky enough to see and listen to her live. I love how the internet sort of discovered her again and these reaction videos are blowing up in the last two years. Other musicians discovering her is such fun to observe - that initial look of recognition, of the realization of what kind of force of nature is in front of them... They know. They understand the technics and the mechanics behind the singing and this makes their admiration even more valuable. And then there are the people who just cry. Thaaat... I understand a bit too well. They aren't kidding when they say Lara is in a league of her own. They just know her. I have no idea what sort of alignment of stars and planets it took for her to become what she is, or what kind of upbringing, discipline, and training, but I am just thankful. You should hear her speak. Or watch some tv appearances with her. She is not just an insanely talented singer, she is a complete artist, a combination of calm, graceful intelligence, humility, and rich emotionality, packed into one person. And she makes it all look natural and effortless. No wonder her fans love her so much. A lot of people can sing. Some have great voices, many can control them and play with them, and some brag about their abilities, which can get annoying. A lot less actually express emotions when they sing. Very few can tell a story through a song. When this woman sing, this isn't just singing. She is channeling something, living through the story, and there isn't a moment of stepping out of it or faking it. She seems like she actually believes in everything she sings and makes it her own story. This is just amazing to observe!

@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind hey Bob, re: Nightwish, just an fyi ,I think you may be misinterpreting the NW fan base on YT by thinking that there is a large % interested in Anette ? when there actually is not, she is an average singer with no special talent especially when it comes to Live performances, the 2 albums with her where successful solely due to Tuomas and his lyrics and compositions, every song Floor does that was written for Anette ( checkout the whole Wacken 2013)becomes what they where meant to be and by Tuomas's own words "she (Floor) is what we had been missing", Floor is it for NW she is the final vocalist. also you may be amazed by by these : Floor Jansen & Henk Poort - Phantom Of The Opera | Beste Zangers 2019 : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp2mhJagq6mCgK8 just Floor & Troy: Nightwish - How's The Heart Acoustic (Planet Rock acoustic session) Live 2020 kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4rXnIOme76thdE Just Floor & her buddy from AfterForever ( Floor's 1st band) Alone - Heart (cover by Floor Jansen)2020 kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5fYXqyGa9Zpfc0 Floor Jansen sings Shallow for Emma Heesters Beste Zangers 2019 kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2eboZhqlsRssM0 *with subtittles :kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4i6k5qPf5uEbKc Adagio - Lara Fabian (cover by Floor Jansen)2020 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYu1eX-Cgpt0i5Y Floor Jansen - Agape (Kadawatha cover) 2021 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ_HqHeoZ6uWnLc After Forever - Dreamflight Live ProgPower USA VIII (2007 : kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWSQkHlvpderaqs

I highly recommend 2 songs that Lara sings in English (she is perfectly fluent in 4 languages!); “Broken Vow” and “Requiem pour un fou” with Johnny Halliday. You will once again be blown away .Lara is still touring, you should find a it where she is now!

Always been one of my favorite performances of all time, of any song. What all art should aspire to be. Also highly recommend 'Caruso', 'Perdere L'amore' and 'Broken Wow' from the same concert. Remember subs for the first two. Beautiful lyrics. Check out Macadamia's KZbin channel for HQ versions with subs.

I've heard that people call her a soul with a voice. It's a good description. Please do "You're Not From Here" and "Caruso" ❤️

You have the short version..#1, and the ending,( during the standing ovation) ,you will see her shaking/ trembling from being overwhelmed by the expression of this piece,#2 at the 3rd line in..during the accapella section, she puts her mic all of the way down by her knee , because the belt...would have blown the mic ,n, you hear her as plain as can be ..as though it was up by her mouth..!!?? " POWER MUCH" in that petite body??? 3rd the beginning of the last note ,til she comes fully back... timed by 3 music producers..2 full minutes...that is a pro.. getting into character!! Check out these points..it will enhance your knowledge about this cover!! C ya on the next video! 🎶👍🧙♂️🐺🤙🎶🎶

Is that the Beyerdynamic headphones you got? If so it might besides probably growing up around the same years be another thing we have in common. Anyhow, the main thing is that I would say the same. This is the absolutely most emotional and jawdropping performance i've heard. Without a doubt! I can't even put words to it. It's like you stop breathing, your heart stops and you are totally unaware of anything else than her. I mean she is out of this world beautiful to look at and with a voice that match that appearance what can I say? I hate her! 😅 Great reaction and I agree about every word you say! Cheers!

Just great reaction Bob! I see that we share the same taste of music based on that background wall you got there...No wonder, we both are the same age class...And now you have found my absolute favourite vocalist/artist/performer of all time. It's somewhat strange because her music genre is something very different that i use to listen and play. That explains how extraordinary unbelievable artist she is. And i don't even understand French very much. Wife speaks it fluently so at least i've heard it spoken...But anyway, i think you are in the way that i was 25 years ago when i first got her voice into my ears. And there is no turning back. It's just impossible to not fall in love with her. You are going to see if you keep watching her live performances. Her live vocals and acting and living in her songs is just insane. No other living artist can do that like she does. I just can congratulate you for jumping into her world. You are in the beginning of a long long journey. And a really good one. Enjoy the ride. 😎

I am feeling exactly, what you feel. The deliverance is state of the art, - she's completely the protagonist of the told story. The best performance I know in the craft in being In the song. By the way, I am here on this channel for the first time - Nice album covers on your wall. As an 70's and 80's guy and composer of Progrock nowadays I like some of these artists very much. Gabba, gabba Hey😁

Bob, thank you for your heartfelt reaction to Lara's masterpiece performance of "Je suis malade". Like many others, I am sorry that you picked a video that didn't show Lara getting into character, or how the emotions she brought to the song, affected her at the end. I am a musician in my 70's and fell into the Lara rabbit hole 18 months ago. She has a magical way of drawing you into her performances and holding you under her spell. It has been said many times but you my friend are screwed, and I can't wait to see you in awe of Lara once more. Lara is singing beautifully to this day and there are fancam videos of her performances of last month.

Thanks for doing this. I've been 'with her' since the beginning and watched/listened to her evolution, as she became ever more precise in her art. Gut wrenchingly beautiful. Suggestion: if you'd stayed to the end of the video, you would have observed her returning to the present tense after inhabiting an emotionally torn character. She totally 'became' another person and had to take a few moments to re-enter. So powerful, so emotive. Agree with you about the most impactful song of hers from her vast repertoire - or anyone's. Cheers!😊

Hey Beej. Thanks for the listen. Yes, I've watched that video many, many times since I reacted to it and I agree with you. She goes off to another place. Just wow! I'll be reacting to another song of hers this week. Just hoping it doesn't get blocked or anything. Can't wait to hear it.

Hello my friend. Greetings from The Netherlands. I've been suffering from a Lara Fabian addiction for a while now and your reaction is in my view spot on. To cap this you should have a look at "Je t'aime" and "Parce que tu pars". The first one shows the dedication her public has for her as a person and singer and in the second song she exposes a sense of devastation when someone has taken his(her) own life. And THAT reflects back to her own 'almost'-suicide in the past.

Hey Dirk. Always love hearing from the Netherlands. My mother was born and raised there. Je t'aime is high on the list. It's been recommended by quite a few people. Thanks for the listen!

@@ericsicard910 I think I know enough to know that if it ends in dje, it's small...so that makes sense! LOL It's funny you sent this because as I was reading it, I was eating some Dutch licorice (drop). Can't get enough of that stuff. ;)

There are other videos of this performance that show it all the way to the end, after the music stops, the video continues. And it shows her trying to "recover" from this performance. It's only about another ten to fifteen seconds. But it in itself is something to behold ! You must find the other video and watch it to the end. You won't be disappointed !

Great reaction, Bob. All your comments were completely accurate and heartfelt. Welcome to Lara’s rabbit hole! There is no escape but it is a beautiful place to be and there are many other people to accompany you on this journey. I will post a separate comment with details on this song. I recommend you to react next to Broken Vow: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXuleHZ_bcaGe5Y this is an english song she wrote and that was covered by the greatests (Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban) or by the new generation : Morrissette Amon, Cakta Khan, Katrina Velarde, Regine Velasquez, Almira from 4th impact, Jackie Evancho, … But her original remains the best version as this is based on her own story and she once again tells yoy a story like nobody else. Then you will have many other gems awaiting you. Did you know she topped US Club Dance billboard for 58 weeks in a row? That she had sung operatic rock, destroying a 80,000 stadium? Has made the best live cover ever of Barbra’s Yentl songs? Or she has written some calm and melodious songs exposing incredible head voice runs and melismas ? That she sang La Traviatta amazingly? And she still sings amazingly today. Her concerts from last month were simply stunning. Once again, I really loved your reaction. PS: I recommend you to check the channel Lara The Ring Fabian! This is a fan channel that provides the best translation in english of Songs or Interviews or even concert speeches Lara made in other languages.
