Johnny Depp's an actor, a musician, a painter and maybe even a poet. When he broke through with 21 Jump Street, he was an instant sex symbol because of his looks, but no one bothered to look any further. That's in part why he always goes for parts where he's unrecognisable. I'm guessing he feels connected to Hedy Lamarr. As far as his acting career goes, everybody expected him to go for the blockbusters because of his looks. So of he took parts that couldn't be further than that. His collaborations with director Tim Burton are legendary, although they had to fight for every film, as Johnny was considered blockbuster poison. Both of them would like as little to do with Hollywood as possible, but unfortunately, if you have an expensive film in mind, Hollywood is the best bet to make it a reality.

Very touching.. The guy deserves peace and support. For years he was suffering with that toxic women and all the circus that got spread out. Major blessings for him and this song is sorta an expression from him in regards to what’s happening to him and how that actress life was confused by her beauty. Very beautiful song and good in depth review from you. Thank you for your reaction!

Hi Moises. He's not perfect, and he admits that, which is why I found him more believable than Amber. Just my opinion. Ha. I hope he can settle down and just enjoy his life like he should. With that said, can't blame him on the beauty thing though! LOL

@@oldskoolbeats1989 Hedy's first marriage was the DV husband. She secretly left him and hid in Paris until she made it to the US. It was shown she never stole anything. It was the patent office that stole her patent from her! She would've been a multi millionaire with her frequency hopping idea.

Also, Johnny didn't need to be in court for the verdict, AH didn't have to be there either. Johnny already had a concert obligation on his calendar. He'd already moved on. Plus, by not being in court that day.... It was a powerful visual message to AH that she'd lost, big time. He wasn't there. AH had to sit there alone to hear what she'd lost and one less day to see JD. It was also his daughter's b-day. Johnny didn't lose any $$ for not being there. The jury made up their minds based on facts etc. They let it be known they believed in him 100%.

It was highly appropriate that when the verdict was given he was moving on and living his best life. He actually had gotten permission from the court ahead of time to not be present. For those who don’t know, as a child Johnny survived his mother’s verbal, emotional, and physical abuse through music. He taught himself guitar, joined a band, dropped out of high school at 15, (and when he asked to return he was refused). He moved to Hollywood to make music. Nicolas Cage introduced him to acting, but music has always been his first live. So, after confronting and overcoming his demons he was able to join Jeff Beck, who is like a brother to him, in order to fulfill his life long dream of being a rock star. Which I would say he has done very well. During the years since his divorce he has gotten sober, and I think it was during Covid global lockdowns that he and Beck began serious collaboration. I think they have a CD soon to be released. Johnny Depp is a multifaceted gentle warrior giant among men and by watching him we each can pull forth something he offers to improve ourselves as humans and to uplift humanity on the planet. He is extremely unique and a Blessing to us all!

I think there's another connection w Hedy... Her first hubby was an Austrian ammunition manufacturer, in the 30's. But he was physically cruel to her (like Johnny's wife AH was to him) . She ran from that situation, living in Paris for a bit, then got to America. Her next hubby was a composer and conductor. Hedy lived for all things science and set up at home her own lab so she could invent n discover things in the evening. She wasn't just a pretty face n body. A famous aviator, Howard Hughes, bought her nice science equipment to help her in her evening hobby. In return...Hedy demonstrated to him how airplane wings should not stick out Lt n Rt at a 90deg angle. She showed how fast lil birds and fast fish have side fin designs leaving the body at an downward angle. Hedy was the person that made that design a unique chg in all planes after that. She and the conductor, after seeing the melody notes hop up n down the paper, she thot up and patented frequency hopping for torpedos❗ As WWII got underway, most ship torpedos ran, and were evaded, because they were on one frequency. It was Hedy's invention of chopping up and using many little frequencies to send the torpedo to its target. The patent office sat on her brilliant idea, so they said... And Hedy never received a single dime for it. This same technology is used today with WiFi and cell phone use. For Johnny being shafted, financially, by WB's and D+... Hedy was also stripped of a massive fortune by men in suits. She wasn't just a stunning actress, she has a brilliantly creative mind. That's the connection I see with JD and Hedy. Their loss is similar. And thus... Their distrust of humans is similar. This song is beyond special. It has many layers that so many regular folk can relate to.... To being mistreated by a spouse and by powerful men in suits. Thank Gawd that Dior and all JD's fans helped him stay afloat. He has to know he's loved. Buy his albums!

Hi Bob, Hedy Lamarr has worked during Worldwar 2 (WWII) as a scientist in the field of wireless technology and has developed techniques that are used in cell phones today. At least that's how I kept it from my younger daughter's student work. She was very pretty and also an actress. But her real merit is in science, and that merit has probably never been really appreciated. Hedy Lamarr was probably one of the most intelligent women of her time. And hardly anyone knows that. I'm surprised how good the song is and also the voice of Johnny Depp. I didn't know that he sings. WOW. You should watch the movie "The Tourist" starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie if you haven't seen it yet. The film takes place in Venice. Have a nice day and Greetings from Germany

I think that once she, Hedy, reached a certain age her looks were changing and Hollywood began turning their backs on her. She resorted to plastic surgery which damaged her skin and turn out to be a disaster. I believe after Heard turned her wickedness on Johnny Hollywood turned away from him also. “It’s so hard to speak when you are frozen in scream,” I believe shows the kindred Spirit Johnny deeply felt with her. An aside: there was a time both Ava Garbo and Hedy Lamar lived at the eclectic, extravagant, earthquake-proof 1930’s Chateau Marmont Hotel in West Hollywood. Johnny and Kate Moss actually lived there for awhile. It is a place stars have lived for seclusion. Stories are handed down amongst the famous tenants, so Johnny might have heard stories about Hedy when he was calling it home. His group of homes are up the hill from the historic buildings. The hotel is still there and has become more of a tenant owned hotel now in order to maintain its almost Art Deco interiors and to maintain its original character. It is also the place that John Belushi died of a drug over dose in one of the Bungalows which were added later. The Chateau holds 90 years of Hollywood’s secrets.

I do not think the idea of this song was random for Depp. Here is an actor with an appreciation for the history of the Silver Screen. He probably knew about Hedy Lamar's story for years, if not decades - it is well documented, and some of Hedy's tragic story lines parallel his own. And yes, it is Pink Floydesque. Bob, I've had a crush on Ms. Hedy Lamarr since I was a kid. Then my favorite actor writes a song about her. I love the song and the lyric "I don't believe in human's anymore' especially hit me hard coming out literally the day after i ended a 22 year relationship. Hedy Lamarr is a fascinating character all he own. Escaping Austria as Hitler began his attack on the country on a bike dressed as a nun's and abandoning her husband in the process. Turn's out Louis B Mayer sees her in her first and most scandalous role in a German film called 'Ecstasy' in which she appears nude. Hedy, was no stupid she knew as the 2 biographies I read and many contemporaries have said "She could walk into any room and every man, woman, and child would turn their heads to look at her" Somehow finding out what cruise ship Mayer is taking back to the states she books a passage, Mayer seeing her offers her a contract on the spot! Also, some fun facts Disney based the image of 'Snow White' on Hedy Lamarr. And she was originally offered the role of Ilsa Lund played by Ingrid Bergman in 'Casablanca' but Louis B. Mayer would not loan her out for the part. I recommend a book called 'Beautiful' by Stephen Micheal Shearer if anyone is interested. Do not buy a book purportedly written by her called 'Ecstasy and Me. Apparently she didn't understand the contract and the publisher put out a mostly fictional account of her painting her as some kind of nymphomaniac. When in reality although she could literally have an man or woman she wanted she was much more interested in staying home avoiding the Hollywood scene and working on her inventions. In fact she had a special room on most of her film sets so in between takes she could go work on her inventions. She sued and was awarded damages, she also was caught shop lifting at a Los Angeles store called May Company. Sound familiar Winona Ryder, Johnny's ex was also arrested for shop lifting, synchronicity? she also successfully sued Mel Brooks for disparaging her reputation (which she won) in his film 'Blazing Saddles' . Even Lucille Ball on 'I love Lucy' took a go at her.....a fascinating story of this largely forgotten star. Thank you Johnny for making her relevant again.

Bob, I am , like others here also happy that I listened to your reaction.. I first thought, Johnny Depp, well, maybe will be little fun but else meh, but turned out to be a really good song! I got David Bowie vibes first (but for me more from "Space Oddity") that turned into Pink Floyd the more the song progresses. His voice fits very well here, it does have similarities to David Gilmour´s.

Haven't read many comments, so someone else might have addressed this earlier: Hedy was defamed, too. So yes, she had her beauty and acting skills, but she also had her intellectual contribution hidden for a long time in part because of the defamatory statements being made about her. So there's an overlap in the emotional path she was on and Johnny's...

I am glad you were favorablly impressed...you should listen to Johnny sing Let it be Me... It is beautiful , haunting, soulful, a bit of sadness IMO...just an amazing presentation ...back to Hedy Lamar-I want to watch a documentary about her...I had never heard of her. My understanding is Johnny reads a lot. Another thing I have observed from listening to interviews where he is talking about portraying real people, he tries to get to know them and present them with respect even though they may not have been the nicest character...I like to think it comes from a place in his heart where he just has respect. If you listen to Let it be Me -the sound quality may not be as good because I haven't seen an official video on it, If I see where you review it, I will check it out. ( as to the trial, it says alot about him that he would have enough integrity to put himself out there for the world to see the truth. He has an art collection: Never Fear Truth

Alone by themselves they are excellent artist, together they're really lifting and amplifying eachothers talent (IMO) As prolly many has said in the comments, Johnny started out as a musician, and became an actor by chance, his pal, Nick Cage adviced him to take a chance and try some acting... mostly to be able to live. If you listen to more of his interviews you'll see that Johnny Depp always has been kinda "Anti-Hollywood" too. He always did his thing and is choosing character roles, not choosing movies because it's a blockbuster.

Johnny started out as a guitar player. It was by accident that he got into acting. He is very talented. Music, acting, painting, poetry. He never sang when he was a guitar player. He was to shy. You should look up his life story.

Hi Eileen. I've never been into Johnny Depp, and haven't even seen the Pirate movies. Not a huge movie person except for a few that I end up watching over and over again. LOL. Hearing this though, I have a new respect for him. I'll definitely look a bit more into this history. Thanks.

Basically Hedy invented wifi allowing us to be on here. She was blacklisted hence the similarities between her and Johnny Depp. This has been my favorite song for two weeks and to me, it's Grammy worthy. Yes, I thought Pink Floyd too. I have a majority of the albums on your wall and you have great taste in tunes.

Johnny Wrote this song Hedy lamarr. It's a new and exciting sound Jeff Beck brings his unique sound to of course. 2022 this is no small feat. I'm here for it and I can't wait till the album comes out so exciting 💨🤯💨. Jeff Beck is one of the greatest guitar players of our day I've been listening to him for a long time the album rough and ready is one of my favorites. Very unique sound. Johnny has always been a musician and was a musician before he was an actor did acting to pay the bills we're glad he's back playing and writing music phenomenal writer. Thank you for covering this song. And the backstory on Hedy lamarr. ❤️ 🔥

Wow, LOVE this! Listened to your reaction of this; then I got busy going out to do some weeding. When I came back in and got back to this, there was another of the songs they covered. Let It Be Me by the Everly Brothers. Truly beautiful; almost a lullaby. I want to hear your reaction to how they did that one in relation to how it was performed. I know what I think but want to know if you catch the same thing I did, watching them. Wow! Wow! Wow! for both of these songs. Thank you! By the way, these two have an album together called '18'.

He wrote this song as a response to the “cancel culture” in Hollywood. He moved to LA to break through in the music industry BUT never got the big break. When he was threatened with eviction his friend, Nicholas Cage, suggested he go to a casting call for Nightmare on Elm Street. The rest is history🥰 #MenToo

Just saw you 4 first time...we share a lot of same thoughts...but I know a bit more than you...Johnny Depp has been playing guitar since 12y.o....Hedy Lamarr was a genius and inventor...you will enjoy your journey learning about her and JD'S success in music. I too wonder why Hedy Lamarr but I feel he is impressed with her brilliant beauty and brain...and so wanted to pay homage...

I did knows about Hedy, because I'm old as dirt😅. I believe he read something about her because he is a reader, and thought he would write a song, I also think maybe he was saying "I don't believe in humans anymore" because of the horrific things that have happened him, 🤷🏼‍♀️😥. He started out as a musician before acting. Check out Hollywood Vampires too. His version of Heroes is special. Another collab with Jeff is Isolation, brings tears to my eyes😥💖. Yes, the other musos in Jeff's band are amazing too👏👏👏

Hi Bob, hope you are doing well! Hedy Lamarr is not only considered one of the greatest actresses of all time during the Golden Years of Hollywood but she had an IQ of 154.Had a degree in psychobiology and apparently is credited as being the precurser to inventing WIFI! As for Johnny Depp...one of my fav. actors...his art work is wonderful! Thanks for this Midnight Special.

Thank you for your insights. This was my 1st time on your channel. I loved your positive review and I too thought of Pink Floyd when I heard it. I also didn't know he did music before the trial, nor knew of Hedy Lamarr. I agree his voice seems perfect for this heartfelt piece. Did you sense correlation to his own Hollywood experience? It's a beautiful, catchy melody with a deeply sad and profound message. I've listened to it dozens of times. So grateful Johnny shares his talents and authenticity in so many ways. I am a better person because of him and his ripple effects. 🙏💞 Love the comments on your thread here. You have a really great group of people in your tribe.

His first love was music and that is what he came out to LA for. I believe it was Nicolas Cage who suggested he become an actor. The rest is history. But the other song I absolutely love. I love the Hedy Lamarr song also. His new album with Jeff Beck hits on July 15. You can preorder it. My husband and I did. Venus in Furs is the title of the song I believe. Look at Sean Bennett’s channel for it. Enjoy! I stood by and stand by Johnny. I knew she was the abuser right away. I was married to someone just like her in the mail version but get this…SHE was way, way worse than my ex ever was!. I like your channel. Just subscribed. :-)

I am in my senior years and I've heard only the name Hedy Lamar but not seen any of her films. Didn't know she invented anything. I am much older than JD and yet he wrote and sing this song..maybe he came to know her biography and resonate and relate with her..they are both creators, intelligent, successful but maybe lonely. JD is an emphant an an old soul. Nice of you to feature this tribute to Ms Lamar, an unknown artist of this millennial generations who are most benefiting her invention, the wi fi.
