"This song is for all the kids in the world..."
‘Shine’ is a heartfelt song of a father's love for his daughter. If we as parents give our kids the love, support and confidence they need, then they can do anything. The inspiration for the song is my daughter Coco-Grace, but it is dedicated to all the kids in the world.
The 'Shine' music video showcases the multi-talents of the MMQ and their efforts to impress a panel of kids. The process involved was lots of laughter, one too many cups of coffee, don't give kids sugar (!), lots of kai, purposely bad costume changes, dad jokes, more laughter, more coffee, more kai, teaching of dad jokes, kids are fading somebody give them some sugar, working that camera… and that's a wrap.
In the end, our kids panel reveal to the MMQ that it's always better to just "Be you"!

SHINE • LYRICS / NGĀ KUPU
You came to this world and opened my eyes
I knew from the start you were gonna be fine, so fine
Yes so fine
You can do whatever the choice is yours
When you succeed I’ll be there with applause my love
My darling love
Coz my baby can shine
Shine shine
My baby can shine
And giving it time
Time time
Everything will be alright
That sugary high keeps them running around
And smiling faces such a joy to be found
I know it’ll be alright
But if you should fall I’ll pick you right back up
Hold you closer with all of my love
My shining light
Coz my baby can shine
Shine shine
And giving it time
Time time
Everthing will be alright
Coz the future is yet to be known
The key to the worlds all yours just let yourself shine
Chorus out

SHINE • NGĀ WHAKAMĀRAMA
Shine is a song that celebrates children.
It is a father’s message to his child, encouraging her to dream big and pursue any path her heart desires.
This song is for “all the kids in the world” and reminds them that they can achieve whatever they set their minds to, so long as they have the support and love of their parents and wider family.
Shine has a strong, comfortable feel that is clear and joyful, which we believe represents us truthfully.
It feels right that this song should be our first voice in the world.
Arohanui,
