Oh Helen. Thnx! When I was in korea I ate this a lot and I liked it a much. I will make this soon, can't wait. Earlier I made a kimchi recipe and that worked out very well. So I have great expectations for this one.

Anchovies are the snack of the sea! Speaking of seafood I was hoping in the future you could cover Koean dishes that involve the baby dried shrimp you can buy in a nice size bag, specifically the ones you get at a Korean or other form of Asian market. Whether it is a snack or a meal it would be awesome to see them lil shrimps Korean style! Spicy shrimp meals and snack and all the good stuff. 🇰🇷🔥🦐

@@MikeHernandez707 Thanks Mike🙏. You can make the dried shrimp like how you make the Korean dried anchovies (spicy or non spicy). In general, dried shrimp is mostly used for broth flavoring. Here is my side dish recipe playlist kzbin.info/aero/PLyNRkG8DxyAc0EcINq1HrWbmEkcHBVQ8U&si=eA5TceFm7YPZW18H

Helen, I always get so excited when you share your recipes for homestyle Korean dishes! I am taking notes! I learned to make this with rice syrup but I thought it was just to make it more shiny, do you think it's better to skip it? I do sometimes find my older recipe a little too sweet and too salty though, so I'll try yours asap. I also sometimes throw in 꽈리고추 for a special version that I serve as a banchan with 된장찌개. The flavors go so well together in my opinion 🤤 Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏

I absolutely LOVE this banchan! When I make it, I cannot stay out of the container and I usually finish it pretty quick! The only problem is, the anchovies are so darn expensive, so I cant afford to make it as often as I would like to!
@ModernPepper7 ай бұрын
Same here🙌 So good that I eat it straight from the container, too!

Thank you for the recipe, can't wait to try it! May I ask how long you can store this in the fridge for, and whether you would refrigerate or freeze it?
@ModernPepper3 ай бұрын
@@davidj4318 Hi 👋 Store in the fridge as you eat through it. I would finish it within a few days, as is the case for most Korean side dishes.

I wish there was a vegan alternative to this since I did used to enjoy this banchan. Maybe only with a variety of nuts, and make saltier (maybe with vegan fish sauce or Yondu)? Edit: I saw a recipe where they replaced the anchovy with marinated shredded shiitake mushroom, they used the stalk, and fried until crispy.

@@L1ttlef0ot Hi 👋 I would use a mixture of nuts and/or seeds, and follow the recipe. You might also like KongJaBan (soy sauce braised black beans). You can also check out my Mushroom Bulgogi recipe, too. Go to my channel and type in the recipe names on the search box or go to my banchan/side dish playlist on my channel (check the description box of this video)

Are the anchovies salty ? Please give me a rating from 1-10
@ModernPepperАй бұрын
@@hendralie9694 Hi 👋. Yes, as noted in the video, these are salty enough to not have to add salt when cooking. But saltiness is unique to each person so you need to taste it for yourself 🙏
@hendralie9694Ай бұрын
@ it feels like the saltiness of anchovies is the same as in my country, which is Indonesia

could you discuss the reason why korean pepper flakes are grown in China. so much is contaminated there. the soil, and water are not good for humans, which pepper flakes do you use for Kimchi? Korean grown? would really love to know.

Hi 👋 I think many vendors resort to importing and farming outside of their country for a better profit margin. Here is my Must-Have Korean Ingredients Tutorial where I recommend buying Made In Korea products, if one’s budget allows. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4u5gnWkpr2Zd8Usi=fAxHr1RMorPfi5N5
