A little trick that I've seen on a couple other ~20 min vids is to put witty banter while running their end card so that people stay to hear it while looking at your related links. I haven't found any research that's been done, but it probably increases click-rate and retention time. 19:12-19:25 would've been a great opportunity to include some funny banter from after filming when you were just chilling. Just my two cents, personally I watch all your vids anyway :P

As someone who has been drinking whisky for years now, this video pretty much condenses all the most important ideas and thoughts I've learned on how to enjoy whisky into one video. Great stuff. For extra nerd points, start a whisky journal and write tasting notes on everything you drink. Super helpful when you're trying to remember "that one awesome whisky you had that time that tasted like pork crackling".

I've been drinking whisky occasionally for years, but never really thinking about it this much. Always simply "this is a 12 year, it'll be different, also expensive-er". Now suddenly I want to go back to all the whiskies I've had and try it again. The best part is how "human" this sounds, easy to understand, but with hard science explained well. It sounds like how my friends would explain things to me.

If I can make some recommendations to ya my friend: Monkey Shoulder Blended Scotch. Affordable, amazing, and a very sweet blended scotch. Highland Park Magnus. Another affordable, but still, very kickass single malt scotch. Smokey, without being overpowering. Jameson. A classic of Irish whiskies. Maker's Mark. Just a straight down home plate, simple bourbon. Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt Whisky. The Japanese here have made a real kickass whisky that I'd be proud to drink. Sweet, fruity, and damn delicious. And of course, good ol' Jack Daniels Old No. 7. A staple, and an American classic. For an expensive scotch, Ardbeg 20 year Single Malt Scotch. Aggressive and refined. Best to save this one for a very special occasion, lol. Good luck on your reignited whiskey journey my friend!

It was many years ago, But every Christmas since, I've had a bottle of it. It has been enjoyed time and time again as the 1st. I remember each time us looking at each other as if to comprehend "what the hell is this, Why is this the 1st time we've found this amazing drop !?" It was an epiphany. Incredible. We've both had many since, But we both concur, None was finer than that first sip of Lagavulin.

The bit about smell being influenced by your brain reminded me of a session in Culinary School, where a woman from the Culinary Science department at NECI came in and provided us with clear plastic cups with totally clear water in them. She told us to first smell them, and all we could smell was incredibly strong lemonade. Almost like pure sugary lemon concentrate. Then she told us to drink it with our nose plugged. There was no flavor whatsoever. It was just water. Then we tasted it without our nose plugged, and it was like drinking lemonade. It was essentially a consomme of lemon water. It was incredible.

This video turned my whiskey (bourbon) drinking on it's head. I started tonight with 2 bourbons and started with the whole proper smelling thing, then a sip, (I cleansed with some water) then a full on hold in the mouth and everything else and it did change every single time I added a couple drops of water, etc., and I almost wanted to be mad at you but because you are like a magician showing how he does his magic tricks. I had a REALLY shitty bourbon that was just awful. Bottom shelf, $11.99 sorta thing, and when I went through the process I found it's sweet spot. Pissed me RIGHT OFF! Hard cherry flavors and smells with an oaky finish and let me tell you... the money I could have saved. LOL It's your fault. Now I have to do this with every bourbon I've ever had. Thanks.

Great video! The reason you have nostalgic feelings when you smell something is because the olfactory nerve, which is responsible for smell, runs very close to the part of the brain responsible for memory. Cheers

Discovered this channel today and the whiskey videos made this my favorite channel already. Daniel is an amazing story teller. I feel almost scared to check out the cigar video I saw in the sidebar, you guys may make we want to take up smoking.
