Rogue Code ideas: *1. Gentleman* A simple drawing of a bottle. A gentlemen always enjoys his fine liquor. This illustration allows travelers to know that a gentleman lives near. *2. Warrior* A drawing of a spear. A warrior is always armed. This illustration alerts travelers to the notion that the homeowner will defend themselves if needed. *3. Scoundrel* A drawing of a cartoon bomb (see here: 💣). The scoundrel is a cunning person, neither friend nor enemy. This will recommend travelers remain safe, and attempt not to anger the homeowner. *4. Low security* This drawing looks like a broken window (simple box with a criss-crossed window pane, and zig-zagged lines to show cracks). It informs travelers on the prospect of easy to gather goods, typically through breaking and entering. In opposition to “Little security”: 4.1. High security A similar drawing of a window, though with multiple vertical lines going from top to bottom to signify a barred window, to warn potential invaders that the home is well protected. *5. Police activity* A drawing of the letter “C” (taking inspiration from the ASL symbol for ‘police’). This warns travelers of constant police activity in surrounding areas. Edit: Got some more ideas *6. Pickpockets nearby* A drawing of key, broken in half (to signify the bypassing of security). This warns travelers to keep an eye on their possessions. *7. Easy money* A drawing of a dollar sign (see here: $). This alerts travelers to the prospect of easy money to be made. *8. Spooks easy* A cartoonish drawing of a ghost. This isn’t always necessary for the survival of the traveler, but can be helpful. It lets them know that the resident can be easily scared or startled. *9. Non/smoking zone* A drawing of a cigarette with a line possible crossed through it. This tells travelers whether or not smoking is or is not allowed nearby (in case the mood strikes to smoke some alcohol). *10. Changelings nearby* No drawings could possible grasp the horror of this fact. The only way I can think is a stick figure with its face scribbled out to represent its ever changing form. Beware of this sign, and if you notice it, have your loose change at the ready. You’ll need a viable weapon. That’s all I’ve got for now. Hopefully you guys can get some use out of my ideas!

My friend was born in 1927 and left the house at 9 years old to go make money for his family and he would ride rails and work odd jobs and send home money. When he was 16 he joined the army because 50 dollars a month was a lot of money and they gave him food and clothing. Then he learned he could make double that by being a paratrooper so he volunteered to join the 101st. One month after his 17th birthday he jumped into a dark sky over France. People were just tough back then, no other way about it.

I look up the style of pipe I have, you guys put up a video all about pipes; I think about spending more time outside, maybe take up fishing, you two do a fishing episode; & now that TriangleCity recommended a mod for Fallout: New Vegas for hobo code, you two do a video about that too! Very serendipitous!

One of the symbols should be an MR with the M and the R connected by removing the vertical line of the R. It should mean friends nearby

I wish this was still a big thing today. Like houses with pumpkins saying they'll give you sweets at Halloween. People are so afraid of strangers these days, they're afraid to ask people for help.

Hobo codes are definitely still used today. At least in the south. I live in Georgia and have a couple of friends that hop trains and ride the rails. They've talked to me about it extensively. I can't remember what any of them mean because don't choose to live that way, thus I have no use for them, but they are DEFINITELY still a thing...

be nice to have a symbol for a bar that has a good whiskey selection and one for cheap drinks. (I'm here from the whiskey tribe lol)

Flask like picture for whiskey, cocktail glass for "drinks just to get drunk"

Liquor flask with a crossed-off dollar symbol for cheap drinks, liquor flask with a W for good whiskey selection (if it has both, it should look like a “SW”).

It's literally a piece of bread. The circle with an x in the middle, that's a whole piece of bread. - "Good for a handout" because they'll give you the whole piece.

Want some rogue code. Try looking up the white wolf book called "hunter the reckoning" for ideas. They had a type of hobo code that also includes vampire, werewolf and hidden guns.

The lines for "chores for food" are clothing lines for hanging laundry or they're rows of gardens to seed/weed.

The way I read the four lines "food in exchange for chores" is that they are clothes lines. Back then doing laundry was pretty hard work.. imagining manually doing all the work your washing machine
@JackSilver14103 жыл бұрын
Yeah... imagine.. Just imagine having to do the work of your washing machine... and your dishwasher... because you don't have a spare grand to replace them with something that's going to break in five months anyway...

Being a deep thinker, I've wondered if people always wiped their asses. If you stopped what would happen. Besides loss of friends and a divorce.

If you're making a rogue set of codes there HAS to be one for "I buried goodies near this symbol" for dead drops and messages!

I am sure that someone else has said it at this point, but the "man with gun" symbol at 17:59 is evocative of the sights of a gun: the triangle being the front sight and the two diagonals being the rear sight. This also means that, because the triangle is in front of the diagonals, the gun is pointed at you.

The four horizontal lines might represent furrows in a garden, or from a plow, using yardwork to represent chores.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, part of this is trying to think of what symbols would have been common to less educated people of the era
@faithdorey59193 жыл бұрын
I was thinking like anything goes but with extra work involved (either the draw the lines straight instead of slashes at an angle and in number of Mark's made)
